If your CameraFi Live YouTube stream shows a black screen while a video plays, first check whether the video is black on your phone too. CameraFi’s official materials do not identify one confirmed cause or guaranteed fix for this exact symptom, so use the checks below to narrow it down.
First, find out where the picture disappears
Play the same video on your phone while comparing the phone’s display with the live stream on YouTube. If possible, ask a viewer to check the stream rather than relying only on your own monitoring view.

Confirm CameraFi Live is using the right mode
CameraFi Live has camera and screen modes. Camera mode broadcasts from the phone or an external camera; Screen mode is intended to broadcast the phone display, including apps and games. For a video playing in another app, confirm that your workflow is using Screen mode. CameraFi’s documented screen workflow begins in Screen mode, then selects a platform such as YouTube and starts the broadcast. The exact interface can change, so consult CameraFi’s official product help and manuals for current instructions.
CameraFi’s FAQ says screen broadcasting is supported only on Android, as of December 20, 2024. It also notes that internal-audio streaming has Android OS and target-app support limits. Check your phone, operating-system version, and video app rather than assuming every combination supports the same capture behavior. These audio limits do not, by themselves, explain a missing picture.

If playback is black on the phone
YouTube’s playback help suggests general steps for playback trouble. These are not presented as a CameraFi-specific capture fix, but they can help determine whether the underlying video plays reliably on the device.
- Try a different network connection, such as switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, where available.
- Clear the YouTube app cache if YouTube is the app playing the video. On Android, the path is generally Settings > Apps > YouTube > Storage > Clear cache; labels vary by phone and Android version.
- Update the relevant app and your device software, then restart the phone.
- Try the same video on another supported device. If it also fails there, the issue may not be specific to the CameraFi broadcast setup.
For current guidance, use YouTube’s playback troubleshooting help. Its recommendations address playback problems generally, not CameraFi screen capture.

If local playback works but the stream is black
When the picture appears normally on the phone but not to viewers, do not assume a particular codec, DRM restriction, or hardware fault: the official materials reviewed do not document this exact symptom or confirm those causes. Record the details below and contact CameraFi support through its FAQ contact route.
- Phone make and model
- Android version
- CameraFi Live version
- Name and version of the app playing the video
- Whether the phone’s local preview shows the video
- Whether audio reaches the YouTube stream
- Whether the issue affects one video or multiple videos

Keep copyright and policy notices separate from capture problems
A black captured picture and a YouTube copyright or Community Guidelines warning are different issues. If YouTube shows a copyright or policy notice, follow the relevant notice and YouTube’s guidance; CameraFi’s FAQ directs users to YouTube help for copyright and Community Guidelines strikes. A warning is not evidence by itself that it caused a black screen.
