CameraFi Live and Restream solve different streaming problems, and neither source establishes that it can guarantee a YouTube channel stays live continuously. CameraFi Live is positioned for phone-led broadcasts, overlays and external cameras; Restream’s documented YouTube workflow connects a channel to its service for distribution. Choose based on whether you need to produce a broadcast from a phone or route an existing production to platforms. If you mean 24/7 uptime rather than ordinary broadcasts, treat that as a separate requirement.
CameraFi Live vs. Restream at a glance
| Need | Better fit to investigate | What the documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcast from a phone, add overlays or connect an external camera | CameraFi Live | CameraFi describes a mobile streaming app with overlays and support for external cameras. CameraFi Live |
| Connect a YouTube channel to a distribution service | Restream | Restream documents a YouTube channel connection and setup flow. Its page does not establish current plan limits. Restream’s YouTube guide |
| Keep a YouTube channel continuously live | Neither is established as a guaranteed 24/7 solution | The available product and help pages do not provide a comparative reliability test or service-level uptime promise. |
These are workflow descriptions, not a controlled feature or reliability comparison. For continuous availability, distinguish between a tool that helps start a broadcast and a service explicitly designed to keep uploaded video playing around the clock.
What CameraFi Live is for
CameraFi Live is the more direct starting point when the phone is your capture and production device. CameraFi describes mobile streaming with overlays and external-camera workflows, including DSLR, camcorder and drone use. Its product page does not make a particular camera or accessory a requirement. See CameraFi Live’s product description.
Starting a YouTube broadcast with CameraFi
- Enable YouTube live streaming first. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Verify that the channel is eligible and live streaming is enabled before planning a broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Sign in to CameraFi Live and select YouTube. CameraFi’s July 11, 2025 guide describes signing in, choosing YouTube, setting stream details and creating the stream. Labels can change as the app is updated, so follow the current in-app flow if it differs from the guide. CameraFi’s setup guide.
- Set the broadcast details and production. Enter the stream information and configure the phone or connected camera and any overlays you need. If you use external capture hardware, check its compatibility with your current device and app version; the cited product description does not establish support for every hardware model.
- Start the stream and confirm it in YouTube Studio. Confirm that YouTube receives the broadcast and that picture and sound are correct before leaving the production unattended.
A phone-based workflow depends on the phone, power, network connection and capture setup remaining available. That is a practical consideration for a fixed camera or long broadcast, not evidence that CameraFi promises a particular uptime.

What Restream is for
Restream is the more relevant workflow to investigate when you already have a production or encoder and want to connect YouTube through Restream. Its current help page, updated July 9, 2026, documents adding a YouTube channel and setting up a stream. The account connecting the channel must own it; a manager or editor role is not sufficient according to that guide. Read Restream’s YouTube setup instructions.
Connecting YouTube through Restream
- Check YouTube readiness. Enable live streaming before setup; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Sign in to Restream and open its channel setup flow. Choose the option to add YouTube and authorize the channel using an account that owns it, rather than an account with only manager or editor access.
- Configure the broadcast source. Follow Restream’s current instructions for the source and stream details. The cited guide establishes the YouTube connection workflow, not every current encoder or plan option.
- Start the production and verify it appears on YouTube. Check the incoming video and audio in YouTube before relying on the stream.
Restream’s YouTube connection guide does not establish how many channels or destinations are available on each current plan. Check the current plan terms and app limits before choosing it for a particular distribution setup.

Encoder settings and YouTube requirements
If your production uses an encoder, enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in that encoder, then start sending the stream. YouTube says the live broadcast appears after the encoder sends content. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a broadcast to the associated stream. Follow YouTube’s current setup instructions for the intended encoder. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
YouTube’s encoding guidance recommends H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), AAC or MP3 audio, and RTMPS as the recommended encrypted transport. Select the resolution and bitrate for your actual encoder and upload connection; consult YouTube’s current table for the target resolution rather than applying one bitrate to every stream. When simulstreaming is the real requirement
If “keeping a YouTube channel live” means broadcasting to YouTube and other platforms at the same time, that is simulstreaming—not the same as keeping one YouTube stream running continuously. YouTube’s guidance calls for a verified channel with live streaming enabled, accounts in good standing on the other platforms, and enough upload speed for the production. It does not give a universal bandwidth figure for every resolution or destination count. YouTube’s simulstreaming guidance.
Restream’s YouTube connection workflow is relevant to this use case, but confirm its current destinations and plan limits directly before committing. CameraFi’s guide describing a Restream integration is dated January 21, 2020, so it should be treated as historical setup guidance, not proof of current compatibility. CameraFi’s 2020 Restream guide.

Do either service guarantee continuous uptime?
The available official pages do not establish that CameraFi Live or Restream guarantees uninterrupted, 24/7 YouTube availability. They describe app capabilities and setup procedures, not comparative uptime measurements or a service-level uptime commitment. A stream that starts successfully can still be interrupted by device power, local connectivity, encoder failure, account access or a platform-side issue.
Do not confuse YouTube’s archive rule with an uptime limit or a promise of continuous streaming. YouTube and Restream state that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; Restream says YouTube has no duration limit, while the automatic-archive condition remains under 12 hours. Archive availability does not demonstrate that a service can keep a channel live without interruption. YouTube encoder help · Restream’s YouTube guide.
