Choose BuddyBoss if you want a WordPress-based community you can extend and connect to a separate learning or membership system—and are prepared to manage the site stack. Choose Circle if you want a hosted service that combines community, courses, events, payments, and business tools. Consider Mighty Networks for a hosted community, but check its live pricing and plan details before comparing costs: current figures are not established here.

The central trade-off is not just features versus price. It is who operates the infrastructure, what fees apply to sales, how courses fit your setup, and whether you need a branded mobile app.

How the three platforms differ

Platform Operating model Best fit Important cost or availability caveat
BuddyBoss WordPress-oriented platform; you operate the site and its hosting stack. Teams that want control and extensibility, especially when integrating with a separate LMS or membership product. The Platform Pro license is not the full cost of running a WordPress site. Hosting and any chosen integrations or add-ons can add expense.
Circle Hosted service with community and business features in its plans. Operators seeking a single hosted environment for community, courses, events, and payments. Published monthly prices are based on annual billing and exclude applicable taxes. Paywall sales also incur Circle platform fees and Stripe processing charges.
Mighty Networks Hosted community platform. Operators considering a hosted community model who can verify the current plan and fee details directly. Current prices, limits, fee rates, and branded-app terms are not established here. Check the Mighty Networks pricing page.

What each option requires from your team

BuddyBoss: more WordPress responsibility, more room to shape the stack

BuddyBoss is suited to a business that already runs WordPress or wants to build around it. Its Platform Pro pricing page lists unlimited members, admins, moderators, groups, and courses, along with community features such as messaging, notifications, directories, moderation, polls, reactions, and scheduled posts. Those product limits do not remove the responsibility for the underlying WordPress site: hosting, updates, security, backups, and compatibility remain part of the operating picture.

BuddyBoss lists integrations with LearnDash, MemberPress Courses, TutorLMS, and LifterLMS. That gives you choices if the learning experience belongs in a dedicated LMS, but each integration needs setup and may have its own license or operating cost. The useful question is whether the integration matches tools you already use, rather than whether an integration exists in the abstract.

Circle: hosted community with business functions grouped by plan

Circle’s public plans combine community spaces with courses, live events, payments, and member-facing features. Its Professional plan lists unlimited members, a custom domain, reporting and analytics, and core community and course functions. Business adds workflows, custom profile fields, API/MCP features, activity scores, branded email notifications, and removal of Circle branding. Scale lists higher limits and AI features. Plan details and limits can change, so confirm the live Circle pricing page before choosing.

A hosted bundle can reduce the number of separate services to operate, but it also means your workflow and plan limits depend on Circle’s product and tier structure. If API access, automation, profile customization, or branding controls matter, check that the specific capability is available in the plan you intend to buy.

Mighty Networks: verify the current offer before sizing it up

Mighty Networks is a hosted community option, but the currently available information here does not establish its plan prices, limits, transaction fees, or branded-app terms. Its official pricing page is the right place to confirm those details. Do not infer a current price or feature comparison from another vendor’s comparison page; those pages reflect their publishers’ perspectives.

Compare the published costs—and the costs they leave out

BuddyBoss license

BuddyBoss lists Platform Pro at an introductory $299 per year and says annual renewals are at full price. Treat that as a license figure, not an all-in operating budget. A WordPress installation also needs hosting, and the final cost depends on the services and integrations you choose. The separate LearnDash or membership product is relevant only if your intended setup needs it.

Circle subscriptions and platform fees

Circle’s displayed monthly prices are $89 for Professional, $199 for Business, and $419 for Scale. These 2026 prices are in U.S. dollars, based on annual billing, and exclude applicable taxes. Circle Plus is custom priced.

Circle also lists platform transaction fees for paywall payments: 2% on Professional, 1% on Business, 1% on Scale, and 0.5% on Circle Plus. Those are Circle’s platform fees, not the total payment cost. Stripe processing fees apply as well and can vary by payment method and region; see Circle’s paywall transaction-fee guidance for its explanation of the charges.

To estimate Circle’s cost for a paid community or course, account separately for the subscription, Circle’s plan-based fee on paywall sales, Stripe processing, and applicable taxes. A higher plan may reduce Circle’s platform-fee rate, but whether that offsets the higher subscription depends on your sales volume and other plan features.

Mighty Networks total cost

Because the current plan matrix and fee schedule are not established here, a numeric cost comparison would be unreliable. Before deciding, confirm the relevant plan price, billing terms, limits, payment charges, and any separate app costs on Mighty Networks’ live pricing page.

Courses, payments, and integrations

Course requirements can change the platform choice. BuddyBoss is the most explicitly integration-oriented of these options in the available product details: it lists several WordPress LMS integrations. This may suit an operator who wants to pair community functions with a learning system already in use, but it also means evaluating and maintaining the combined stack.

Circle lists courses and payments among its hosted capabilities. That can be a simpler fit when the goal is to run a community and sell learning or membership access in one service. Include the subscription and both payment-fee layers in the business case; a feature being bundled does not make payment processing free.

Mighty Networks may also fit a hosted community model, but its current course, payment, and plan specifics should be checked in its own live product and pricing information before treating it as equivalent to either setup.

Branded mobile apps are a separate buying decision

Do not assume a standalone app carrying your brand comes with an entry-level community plan. Circle lists custom branded apps, customizable app screens, and branded push notifications as Circle Plus features, which are custom priced. Circle’s comparison page says branded apps require a custom pricing conversation; that is vendor-authored comparison material. Confirm the current terms directly with each provider if an app is central to your launch.

For BuddyBoss, the mobile-app plans page has displayed Lite and Full plans with different included community capabilities and separate publishing or onboarding charges. Because those figures and terms are volatile, verify the current offer at BuddyBoss mobile app plans rather than treating an older displayed rate as a quote. Compare what the app tier actually includes—not just whether an app is offered.

Make the decision against your operating model

  • Pick BuddyBoss when WordPress control and LMS or membership integrations are priorities, and your team can own the hosting and maintenance workload.
  • Pick Circle when you want a hosted combination of community, courses, events, payments, and business tooling, and its annual-billed plan and fee structure work for your sales model.
  • Evaluate Mighty Networks when hosted community is attractive, but only after confirming current plan limits, payment fees, and app options directly.

Before committing, map your actual requirements: who will manage infrastructure, what learning system you need, how you will collect payments, which integrations are essential, what member and admin limits apply, and whether a branded app is worth a custom quote. That comparison is more useful than choosing a platform from its headline subscription price alone.
