PI-1903 versus PI-1903-LG: order the right part
Bud’s parts documentation identifies two related numbers:

The current detailed Bud listing is for PI-1903-LG, while distributor searches may display the shorter PI-1903 number or cross-reference the light-gray SKU. Confirm the suffix, color and packaging with the seller before issuing a purchase order. Bud’s parts description document is the useful reference for the two identifiers.

Dimensions and practical PCB fit
Bud states dimensions in height × width × depth:
- External: 1.18 × 2.34 × 4.72 in (30.0 × 59.4 × 119.9 mm, approximate conversion).
- Internal: 1.02 × 1.99 × 4.26 in (25.9 × 50.5 × 108.2 mm, approximate conversion).
The shell therefore consumes about 0.16 in of height, 0.35 in of width and roughly 0.46–0.47 in of depth relative to the stated internal envelope. Those differences are simple dimensional comparisons, not guaranteed space around a finished assembly. Bosses, guide slots, end panels, countersunk screw heads, wall geometry, connectors and cable bend radius can reduce usable clearance.
Bud’s older catalog rounds some values differently, including a 2.36-inch width and 4.25-inch internal depth. Use the current product-page figures for the displayed specification, then verify machining and mounting details against the current drawing or requested STEP file before production.

PCB mounting provisions
Guide slots support vertical board mounting, while molded bosses support horizontal mounting. The surfaced product information does not state every boss coordinate, board-thickness limit, screw size or mounting pattern. Do not infer those values from the enclosure’s outside dimensions; obtain the drawing or CAD model.
Construction and enclosure features
The PI-1903 uses an upper and lower cover joined by a tongue-and-groove interface. Specially designed end panels close the short sides, and four countersunk screws in the bottom cover engage internal bosses. Lightly textured covers are described by Bud as providing a scratch-resistant finish.

The tongue-and-groove joint can improve alignment and help the intended interface seal, but it is not proof that a modified or incorrectly assembled unit achieves an IP rating. End-panel seating, screw condition and even tightening remain important.
Environmental, flammability and compliance claims
ABS plastic
ABS keeps the housing light, electrically insulating and relatively easy to drill or machine. It does not provide the conductive path of a metal case, so it should not be treated as an EMI/RFI shield or a heat spreader. Bud’s surfaced specifications do not establish a complete impact, chemical-resistance, UV or thermal-dissipation test profile.

UL94-HB
UL94-HB is the stated flammability classification for the plastic. It is not a blanket approval for the finished electronic product or its installation.
Temperature
Bud gives a suggested service range of −40°C to 60°C. That range applies to the enclosure specification; batteries, displays, adhesives, cable glands and electronics inside may require a narrower range, and internal heat generation still needs an actual thermal design.

IP54 design claim
Bud describes the enclosure as designed to IP54 under IEC 529. IP54 is not waterproofing or an immersion rating. Drilled connector openings, unsealed cable exits, damaged mating surfaces, missing screws, substituted hardware, uneven torque and repeated servicing can all compromise the intended protection. Do not claim an assembled or modified enclosure is IP54 without validating the final configuration.
RoHS
Bud lists PI-1903-LG as RoHS compliant. RoHS concerns restricted substances; it does not establish CE, FCC, EMC, electrical-safety, NEMA or jurisdiction-specific product certification. See Bud’s RoHS information.

It is a reasonable choice when
- Your complete assembly fits within approximately 1.02 × 1.99 × 4.26 in, after allowing for walls, bosses, connectors and wiring.
- You need a compact insulated housing for instrumentation, telecom, embedded or small control electronics.
- Vertical guide slots or horizontal bosses match your PCB arrangement.
- You can preserve the enclosure interfaces and work within the stated environmental requirements.
Choose another enclosure when
- You need reliable EMI shielding, chassis grounding or substantial heat transfer through the walls.
- The product requires certified outdoor, UV, chemical, hazardous-location or higher-flammability performance.
- Large connectors, displays, batteries, terminal blocks or cable glands exceed the practical interior space.
- Your board needs a mounting pattern unsupported by the molded features.
- Frequent access, high impact resistance or immersion protection is essential.

The wider PI Series also includes smaller PI-1900 through PI-1902 models and larger PI-1906 through PI-1911 models. Compare internal clearance, connector access, board orientation and environmental requirements—not just outside dimensions. Drawings, CAD files, stock and pricing
- Confirm whether your requirement is dark-gray PI-1903 or light-gray PI-1903-LG.
- Download the current drawing or request the STEP file from Bud’s product page.
- Check PCB, connector, cable-bend and cover clearances in the model.
- Compare delivered availability and pricing through Bud and authorized distributors.
Bud’s listing provides technical documentation, stock/pricing checks and modification inquiries. A DigiKey listing can help identify the purchasable light-gray SKU, but its indexed India-localized result showed $5.10 for PI-1903-LG-ND at a crawl roughly two months before August 18, 2026; currency, tax, shipping, stock and quantity pricing can differ. Newark’s enclosure catalog and Mouser’s enclosure catalog are additional comparison routes, not replacements for Bud’s current drawing.
The Bottom Line
The PI-1903 is a lightweight, compact ABS enclosure with useful molded PCB provisions and a Bud-stated IP54 design claim. Buy it only after confirming the PI-1903 versus PI-1903-LG suffix and checking the current drawing for real board, connector and wiring clearance. Move to PI-1904 or PI-1905 for height, or to a metal/higher-rated enclosure for shielding, heat, impact or demanding environmental certification.
