Two men were reported killed by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Punjab’s Tarn Taran sector on October 2, 2026, after allegedly ignoring warnings to stop. In the latest account, published October 3 by Hindustan Times, officials said the men had not been identified, the investigation was ongoing and the bodies had been handed to police for post-mortem examination.
What happened in Tarn Taran?
Officials told Hindustan Times that BSF personnel noticed suspicious movement around noon on Friday, October 2, in the Tarn Taran sector along the India–Pakistan border. They said personnel challenged two men and opened fire after the men allegedly ignored warnings and continued moving toward the Indian side. Both were reported killed. Read the October 3 report.
Akashvani News also reported the incident on October 2, citing BSF sources. ANI’s contemporaneous account, republished by WebIndia123, similarly attributed the reported sequence to officials. The available accounts do not include a named official’s direct statement or an on-record BSF statement, so the operational details are attributed reports rather than independently established findings.
Have the two men been identified?
No. The October 3 Hindustan Times report said officials had not established the deceased men’s identities. It said BSF and Punjab Police were coordinating while authorities investigated their identities and the circumstances of the incident. The reports do not establish motive, the exact crossing point or other details beyond the reported encounter.
