He later took preseason snaps at defensive end as well as his usual defensive-tackle position. The Browns have called that flexibility useful, but have not announced a permanent position change or a starting role.
When did Mike Hall return to the Browns?
The Browns tied Hall’s absence to an injury at practice on August 1. He returned to practice on August 18, after missing 10 training-camp days. Hall told local reporter Scott Petrak that he was dealing with “some little, minor tweaks” and working with the training staff. The team’s September 2 account also described his return and preseason work (Cleveland Browns, September 2, 2026; Scott Petrak, September 2, 2026).
That camp absence should not be confused with Hall’s earlier right-knee injury. The Browns placed him on injured reserve after a knee injury in the 2024 season finale, then activated him in December after designating him to return. Petrak reported that the earlier injury involved a torn MCL and a dislocation, required two surgeries, and kept Hall out of the first seven games of 2025. Hall said he worked with a physical therapist during the 2026 offseason to recover from the previous year’s knee injury and that he “couldn’t feel better.” The available accounts do not establish that the August 2026 camp issue was a recurrence of that injury (Browns injured-reserve report; Scott Petrak, September 2, 2026).
What position does Mike Hall play?
Cleveland lists Hall as a defensive tackle. He has primarily rushed from the interior for the Browns, but took defensive-end snaps during the 2026 preseason, including against Buffalo. An edge alignment puts a defender farther outside and changes his approach angle to the quarterback; it is a different look from attacking through the interior.

Against Buffalo, the Browns reported that Hall recorded a sack on an inside rush, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit. Head coach Todd Monken said, “I think he’s shown that he can be a versatile player,” while also describing Hall as more disruptive inside. Hall said, “I have no problem being as versatile as I can.” Those comments support situational flexibility, not a confirmed full-time move to defensive end or a specified share of snaps there (Cleveland Browns, September 2, 2026).
Mike Hall’s Browns statistics and roster details
The Browns’ live roster lists Hall as No. 51, a defensive tackle from Ohio State selected 54th overall in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Its Week 4, 2026 snapshot shows four appearances, four combined tackles, and one sack. The same snapshot lists 21 career games, 29 combined tackles, and 3.5 sacks; his 2025 entry shows nine appearances and 1.5 sacks. A separate Browns September 2 report gives Hall’s first-two-seasons interior-rushing totals as 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, and 10 quarterback hits across 17 games. That time window and set of figures are reported separately from the live roster snapshot; the sources do not establish a shared cutoff or identical statistical definitions, so the two sets should not be combined (Cleveland Browns, September 2, 2026).

The Browns’ account frames Hall as useful defensive-line depth and a rotational option whose ability to line up in more than one place can help the front. It also says he has been more disruptive inside. The team has not specified how often he will line up on the edge, named him a starter, or announced a fixed role. Cleveland’s August 26, 2025 announcement that Hall passed his physical and made the initial 53-man roster is historical context, not an update on his current health (Cleveland Browns, September 2, 2026; Cleveland Browns, August 26, 2025).
