What Broadcom projected for fiscal 2028
Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said the company had secured supply to approximately double AI revenue to $115 billion in fiscal 2027, with a line of sight to another doubling to $230 billion in fiscal 2028. He also said demand exceeded the 2027 outlook and that supply had been secured for the 2028 outlook. These are management’s expectations, not realized sales or a binding guarantee. The Motley Fool’s September 3 report attributes the statement to Tan: “We have line of sight for fiscal 2028 AI semiconductor revenue growth to again double to $230 billion.”
“Secured supply” speaks to capacity, not to when customers will install and use it. Customer deployments still depend on factors such as data-center readiness, including power and land, and purchases may not be recognized on the schedule implied by a forecast. The gap between capacity and revenue is central to judging this projection.
What recent results do—and do not—show
Broadcom reported $16.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue for Q3 FY2026, up 221% year over year. It also guided to approximately $34.8 billion in total Q4 FY2026 revenue, up 93% year over year. The Q4 figure is company guidance, not reported revenue. Broadcom’s Q3 FY2026 release is the source for these figures.

- Used Book in Good Condition
The results and guidance indicate fast AI growth and strong near-term expectations. They do not establish that AI revenue will reach $115 billion in FY2027 or $230 billion in FY2028: those targets are far beyond the Q3 reported figure, and a single quarter cannot validate the longer-range path.
Why the bullish case appeals—and what it assumes
The bullish thesis is that AI demand can keep expanding, Broadcom can deliver the required supply, and the resulting sales can translate into enough earnings and cash flow to support a higher share price. The October 4 article that supplied the headline argues that the market has not fully priced in the projected growth. That is an investment thesis, not a company statement or an independently established fair-value estimate.
For the thesis to work, growth must be realized and profitable, and the price investors pay must leave room for a return. A large revenue forecast alone cannot answer whether AVGO is undervalued: that requires dated assumptions about earnings, margins, cash flow, debt, and the valuation investors are willing to pay. The available figures do not establish an intrinsic value or a full ranking against peers.
Risks that could derail the projection or the stock thesis
Broadcom’s disclosures identify risks that matter directly to the forecast and to shareholders. The company’s Q3 FY2026 release discusses risks including:
Rank #3
- Loss of significant customers and changes in customer order timing or volume.
- Semiconductor cyclicality, which can make demand and results uneven.
- Dependence on contract manufacturers and a limited number of suppliers.
- Difficulty estimating demand and matching manufacturing capacity to it.
- Gross-margin pressure that could weaken the profit generated by additional sales.
- Significant indebtedness and the need to service debt.
These risks are connected. For example, delayed customer deployments can shift orders, while supply and capacity constraints can complicate delivery. Even if sales grow, margin pressure and debt-service needs affect how much cash is left to support the business and its valuation.

Use the projection as a claim to monitor, not as a substitute for valuation. Broadcom trades on Nasdaq under the ticker AVGO, as identified in its FY2025 Form 10-K. When reviewing the investment case, track these measures over time:

- Reported AI revenue versus the forecast path: Compare actual quarterly results with management’s stated targets, while keeping fiscal-year periods distinct.
- Order durability and customer concentration: Look for evidence that demand is broad and sustained rather than dependent on a small number of customers or shifting order schedules.
- Supply and deployment execution: Distinguish Broadcom’s ability to secure manufacturing capacity from customers’ ability to install and use it.
- Profit and cash conversion: Follow margins and free cash flow alongside revenue, and account for debt-service demands.
- Price relative to dated expectations: Evaluate the share price against a clearly dated earnings forecast and your own assumptions; estimates and market prices change.
Those checks cannot eliminate uncertainty, but they expose the key question behind the headline: whether the forecast becomes profitable, cash-generating growth at a price that compensates investors for the risks.
