Brilliant Solutions has joined the Equity Release Council (ERC), bringing its experience as a mortgage club and specialist distributor into the Council’s membership. The announcement points to closer collaboration and knowledge-sharing about later-life lending; it does not announce a new mortgage product or change the terms available to borrowers.

What has been announced?

The ERC describes Brilliant Solutions as a mortgage club and specialist distributor working with advisers and lenders across the UK. The company’s managing director, Michael Craig, said it was pleased to join and looked forward to working with the Council and its members. The announcement does not give a publication date that can be confirmed from the Council’s listing.

The Council’s head of commercial and business development, Tom Brett, said the membership would help bring more of the mortgage market into conversations about later-life lending, share knowledge and engage more advisers. ERC chief executive Jim Boyd said mortgage and later-life lending markets should not operate in isolation as people’s borrowing needs change with age. These are the parties’ stated aims, not reported outcomes.

Why might the membership matter to advisers?

Brilliant Solutions’ role connecting advisers and lenders in the specialist mortgage market gives it a route to contribute industry experience to the Council’s work. In principle, broader participation could support discussion and knowledge-sharing about the borrowing options advisers consider for customers later in life. The announcement does not describe specific projects, advice changes or measurable results.

The ERC describes itself as the UK trade body for the equity-release and later-life-lending sector. It says its standards and safeguards guide member firms in advice and products. Membership is an industry affiliation, not regulatory approval of a particular product or a recommendation that a particular borrower use it. Equity Release Council

Does this change options for borrowers?

No new consumer mortgage, application route, eligibility rule, rate or product term is set out in the announcement. A firm joining a trade body does not, by itself, establish that products have changed or that a specific consumer protection applies to a borrower’s circumstances.

The announcement refers broadly to later-life borrowing. The Council describes equity release as a way to access property wealth; a lifetime mortgage, for example, lets an older homeowner borrow against their home. That context explains the connection to later-life lending, but this membership news does not compare equity release with other borrowing options or establish that borrowing against a home is suitable for any individual.
