Verdict: The Breville The Quick Touch BMO735 is a feature-rich countertop turntable microwave with a listed 34 L capacity, 1100 W output and humidity-sensing automatic programs. Its Sensor IQ, shortcut panel and “A Bit More” control could make everyday reheating convenient, but the model is now marked discontinued in Australia. Treat any BMO735 listing as remaining, regional or second-hand stock, and verify the exact SKU, condition, return policy and price before buying. Public independent evidence confirms the model exists but does not provide an accessible numerical cooking score, so this is a buying assessment rather than a claim of tested performance.

This Breville The Quick Touch BMO735 review separates documented specifications and manufacturer-described functions from owner anecdotes and unavailable test results.

What the Breville BMO735 is

The BMO735 is a freestanding, countertop microwave with a turntable rather than a flatbed cooking floor. Breville Australia calls it “the Quick Touch” and currently labels the model discontinued on its official product page: Breville BMO735 product page. That status matters more than the original feature list: the question is no longer simply whether the microwave is good value at a normal retail price, but whether a particular remaining or used unit is safe to buy and supportable in your region.

The core proposition is automated cooking. Breville says Sensor IQ detects humidity released from food and calculates cooking time and power. That is a manufacturer description, not an independently verified result. The same product material lists Smart Cook, Smart Reheat, Defrost, Melt & Soften, a favorite setting, “A Bit More,” a child lock and shortcuts mounted inside the door.

Specifications at a glance

The available documents do not use exactly the same measurement convention. The table keeps each figure tied to its source instead of pretending the dimensions are identical.

CHOICE dimensions 31 H × 52 W × 46 D cm Independent listing; rounded figures and a different axis order
Original RRP AUD $379.95 Historical value printed on the specification sheet, not a current price

For the original dimensions, see the BMO735 specification sheet. The small differences between 45.3 and 46 cm depth, or 31.4 and 31 cm height, are normal when one source rounds measurements or labels axes differently. Leave ventilation clearance required by the manual and measure the actual bench space; do not plan around the capacity number alone.

Sensor IQ: what is promised and what is proven

Breville’s defining selling point is Sensor IQ Cook and Reheat. The official wording is: “It automatically senses humidity released from food and calculates the perfect cook time and power to heat without drying out your foods.” In practical terms, the microwave is intended to monitor moisture released during a sensor program, then choose a duration and power level instead of asking you to enter both manually.

That description explains the intended mechanism, not a performance guarantee. The available public material does not show a controlled comparison demonstrating that BMO735 sensor cycles consistently prevent drying, heat food more evenly or outperform a conventional timed microwave. Results can vary with food type, portion size, container, starting temperature and how much steam reaches the sensor. Use the automatic programs as a convenience feature, and still check food temperature and standing time.

Automatic programs and everyday controls

Smart Cook and Smart Reheat

Smart Cook and Smart Reheat are the main sensor-oriented menus. They are designed to select time and power for common food categories. Because the documentation does not provide an independent success rate or a complete category-by-category cooking table in the material available here, do not infer that every food will be hands-off. Follow the instruction manual for the selected menu and adjust future cycles when your portion or container differs.

Defrost

The BMO735 includes a Smart Defrost function, alongside manual time and power adjustment. Automatic defrosting can be useful for routine portions, but food may need turning, separating or a standing period. For meat and poultry, finish with safe food-handling practices rather than assuming a preset has produced an even temperature throughout.

Melt & Soften and door shortcuts

Breville lists Melt & Soften menus and an inside-door shortcut panel. Examples named in the product material include melting chocolate, softening butter and popping popcorn. These are convenience presets, not evidence that the microwave can sense every recipe or container accurately. Use microwave-safe cookware and watch high-fat or sugary foods, which can overheat quickly once melted.

Favorite and “A Bit More”

A favorite setting lets you save a frequently used combination, while “A Bit More” adds extra cooking time after a cycle without rebuilding the program. Those controls address two common frustrations: repeatedly entering the same setting and finding that a chilled meal needs another short burst. The retailer sheet also lists a 30-second instant-start control, plus independent adjustment of time and power.

Child lock

The child-lock feature is intended to prevent unintended operation. The exact button sequence is model-specific, so use the BMO735 manual rather than assuming a generic microwave lock procedure. The official instruction manual is available at Breville’s BMO735 instruction manual.

Size, capacity and the turntable trade-off

A listed 34 L cavity is large enough for family-size plates and many medium dishes, while the 30 cm turntable figure gives a more useful indication of what can physically rotate. Measure your widest plate, including handles, against that diameter. A rectangular casserole may fit inside the cavity but fail to turn freely, which can affect even heating and may cause the tray or dish to contact the walls.

The microwave is approximately 52 cm wide and 45–46 cm deep, depending on the source and rounding. At 16 kg, it is not a lightweight appliance to move repeatedly. Before purchase, check the bench depth, overhead cabinet clearance, door swing, rear ventilation space and the route into your kitchen. The external dimensions supplied by Breville are 45.3 W × 51.9 D × 31.4 H cm; CHOICE reports rounded 31 H × 52 W × 46 D cm.

What independent evidence actually says

CHOICE has a public listing for the BMO735 at its microwave review page. The public record identifies the model as a turntable microwave, lists 1100 W, a 30 cm turntable and rounded external dimensions, and indicates that the model is discontinued. The expert rating and cooking-performance fields are behind member access. Consequently, there is no accessible numerical CHOICE score that can support calling the BMO735 excellent, average or poor in measured cooking tests.

This limitation is important for a review. Specifications can establish output, size and features; they cannot establish heating uniformity, sensor accuracy, noise level or long-term reliability. Do not treat the existence of a CHOICE listing as a favorable test result.

Owner reviews: useful context, not a reliability statistic

ProductReview.com.au shows a 3.8 rating based on 159 reviews in the snapshot represented by the supplied material: BMO735 owner reviews. That number is a platform aggregate that can change, and reviewers are self-selected. Individual accounts include praise for ease of use and features, alongside complaints involving particular functions, noise or durability.

Those reports can help you form questions when inspecting a used unit, but they do not establish a failure rate, an average service life or typical cooking performance. A dissatisfied owner may be more motivated to post than a satisfied one, and owners may use different dishes, voltages, portions and maintenance routines. Read comments for recurring symptoms, then verify the appliance in person rather than treating the star rating as a laboratory result.

Discontinued status changes the buying decision

Breville Australia currently marks the BMO735 discontinued. That means you should not assume normal new-stock supply, a current manufacturer price or a full retail warranty simply because a listing uses the original product photos. A search result for an Appliances Online BMO735BSS page exists at this product URL, but live stock and price were not established. Treat any page as a lead to verify, not proof that the item is available.

Remaining inventory may be unopened, display stock, refurbished or used. Each condition changes the risk. A sealed old unit may have spent years in storage; a used unit may have an unknown history; a display unit may have cosmetic wear or missing accessories. Ask for a current photograph of the rating label and control panel, not only a generic catalogue image.

Support, manuals and regional parts

Breville New Zealand’s BMO735 page says parts and accessories are available for model BMO735BSS: Breville New Zealand BMO735 page. This is regional and SKU-specific evidence. It does not prove that every colour has parts, that the same inventory exists in Australia or that a third-party listing includes those parts.

Breville’s Australian support/product hub provides routes to manuals, warranty and repair information: Breville Australia support hub. Check the model selector and contact support before paying for a discontinued appliance. Confirm whether the serial number, purchase country and seller type qualify for service. The 12-month replacement statement on the old specification sheet should not be treated as current warranty coverage.

How to check a BMO735 listing before paying

  1. Confirm the model label. Ask the seller to show “BMO735” and the colour suffix, such as BMO735BSS, BMO735BKS or BMO735CRN, on the rating plate or original paperwork.
  2. Establish condition. Get a written answer stating whether it is new, old stock, opened, refurbished, display stock or used, and ask why it is being sold.
  3. Check the physical fit. Compare the seller’s measured width, depth and height with your bench, then allow the ventilation and door-clearance requirements in the manual.
  4. Inspect the cavity and turntable. Look for rust, chipped enamel, a damaged waveguide cover, a cracked roller ring or a missing 30 cm glass tray. Do not operate a microwave with damaged internal shielding or a faulty door.
  5. Test the controls if possible. Verify the door closes squarely, the turntable rotates, the display works, the 30-second start responds and the keypad accepts manual power and time settings.
  6. Run a basic heating check. With the seller’s permission and a microwave-safe cup of water, confirm that the unit starts, runs without arcing and stops when the door opens. This is a functional check, not a performance test.
  7. Get the commercial terms in writing. Confirm total price, delivery, return window, included accessories and who handles a fault. A seller’s return policy may be more valuable than an uncertain historical guarantee.
  8. Check support before purchase. Use the model-specific manual and ask Breville whether service or parts are available for your region and exact SKU.

Who should consider it

  • Consider it if you specifically want a countertop turntable microwave with a large nominal capacity, 1100 W output, sensor-style menus, saved favorites and one-touch shortcuts, and you have found a fairly priced unit with a credible return option.
  • Be cautious if you need predictable new-stock availability, a clearly current warranty, guaranteed parts supply or independently published cooking scores. The BMO735’s discontinued status makes those requirements harder to satisfy.
  • Look elsewhere if your dishes require a flatbed cavity, your bench cannot accommodate roughly 52 cm of width and 45–46 cm of depth, or you want a current model that can be compared directly on today’s price and warranty terms.

How to compare a current alternative

If the BMO735 listing fails your checks, compare a currently supported model using the same decision axes rather than matching brand names or headline wattage:

Comparison axis Question to ask Why it matters
Sensor and auto menus Does the manufacturer document sensor cooking, and are independent results available? Marketing language alone does not show consistency across foods.
Usable capacity What are the turntable diameter, cavity shape and maximum dish dimensions? Litres do not guarantee that your plate or casserole will rotate.
Bench fit What are measured external dimensions and required clearances? A nominally similar microwave may need a different footprint or door swing.
Controls Are manual power, instant start, favorite and add-time functions available? Convenience depends on the controls you actually use.
Evidence Is there an accessible independent test, or only owner commentary? Separate measured performance from anecdotes.
Availability and support Is the model current, and can you verify warranty and parts in your country? Support risk is especially important for a microwave sold as old or used stock.
Total cost What is the delivered price after comparing return terms and condition? A low listing price may not compensate for missing accessories or limited recourse.

Bottom-line assessment

The BMO735’s documented strengths are its 34 L listed capacity, 1100 W output, 30 cm turntable, sensor-oriented programs and thoughtful convenience controls. Its weaknesses as a purchase today are evidentiary and practical: the model is discontinued in Australia, current stock and pricing are unverified, CHOICE’s numerical performance fields are inaccessible publicly, and owner reviews are anecdotal.

Buy one only when the specific unit, SKU, condition, dimensions, accessories, return terms and support path have been checked. If those details cannot be verified, a current countertop microwave with published warranty and parts availability is the lower-risk choice, even if it lacks the BMO735’s exact Sensor IQ and shortcut layout.
