A strong branded video gives viewers a clear reason to care about your business, product, or point of view. Start with the question your audience needs answered, then choose a format—such as a founder story, explainer, product demonstration, customer story, or short social video—that answers it with a specific example.
What makes a video a branded video?
A brand video focuses on a business’s identity and values. Corporate video is a broader category that can include any video a company publishes, including advertisements and explainers, as Shopify distinguishes them. In practice, a branded video should make the company’s identity, point of view, or offer clear in a way that suits both the viewer and the channel. It does not have to be a sweeping brand film: a focused product demonstration can still communicate what the business stands for through the way it presents its work.

Humor works as an idea only when it feels natural to the business and helps the viewer understand what matters to it.
UNTUCKit: connect the founder’s origin story to the offer
Shopify describes a video in which founder Chris Riccobono explains how the company began, followed by a look at its products and online and physical retail presence. For a small business, that structure can connect a personal origin to something viewers can actually explore or buy. Focus on the decision, need, or moment that explains why the business exists, then show how that origin relates to the current offer.

Customer stories: let customers describe their experience
Vimeo discusses customer case studies, also called testimonials or customer stories, as a way to communicate product value from a customer’s perspective. A credible version gives the customer room to explain their context and experience accurately. Ask what they were trying to do, what they used, and what they can honestly say about the experience; do not script outcomes they have not reported.
Product explainers: make the offer easier to understand
Vimeo recommends working with product marketing to identify which features matter and how to present them. An explainer is useful when viewers need a clearer account of what a product or service does. Pick the details that resolve the viewer’s main questions rather than trying to cover every capability at once.

Short social videos: deliver one focused takeaway
Adobe’s social-video guidance emphasizes a clear idea, holding attention, and ending with a call to action. A short video might answer one common question, show one useful tip, or explain one reason to consider the offer. Adapt framing and length to the platform you intend to publish on; there is no single specification that fits every channel.
Choose a format by the question viewers have

How to develop an idea that feels specific to your business
- Name the audience and the question. Decide whether viewers need to understand your identity, an offer, a product in use, or another customer’s perspective.
- Choose one outcome. Decide whether the video should explain, demonstrate, introduce, or invite a next action. Trying to tell the entire company history and cover every feature in one short piece usually blurs the point.
- Pick the format that carries that outcome. Use a founder story for origins, an explainer for clarity, a demonstration for visible use, a customer story for their perspective, or a short social video for one focused idea.
- Find a concrete scene. Build around a real product interaction, founder decision, customer workflow, or value in action. A specific scene is more useful than a generic claim such as “we’re innovative” or “we put customers first.”
- Give viewers a suitable next step. Depending on the purpose, invite them to learn more, see the product, contact the business, or follow for related information. Adobe’s guidance for social videos also recommends ending with a clear call to action.
Make a useful business video with a small production setup
YouTube’s nonprofit video guide says, “You don’t need a massive production budget to create great video content.” It also notes that many creators record, edit, and upload directly from smartphones. That is guidance, not a guarantee that every phone or shoot will meet every production need, but it is a practical reason to plan the story before buying a full equipment kit.
Plan before recording
- Write a short outline or storyboard and decide on the main point.
- Visit or check the location in advance, and listen for background noise.
- Align anyone appearing on camera on the video’s goal and prepare them for what you will ask or film.
YouTube recommends storyboarding, checking the location, aligning on goals and expectations, and preparing on-camera talent. Those steps reduce avoidable confusion once recording begins.

Prioritize steady footage, intelligible sound, and visible subjects
- Use the phone or camera you already have, and keep the frame steady. YouTube recommends a phone tripod for stabilizing phone footage; it is helpful for a fixed shot, not a requirement.
- Check that speech is easy to understand. YouTube and Adobe both mention a lavalier or lapel microphone as a possible option for spoken video.
- Use available soft light, such as a suitable window, and check that the person or product is visible. YouTube’s filming guidance also covers lighting and framing.
- Review footage before publishing for sound, focus, framing, and whether it delivers the intended takeaway.
For a small team, start with what improves the specific video you are making. A phone tripod can help with a stable demonstration or interview; a lapel microphone may be a more useful upgrade when speech is central. Neither item is necessary for every format.

When a business video is meant to run continuously on YouTube
