The ₹500 limit cannot guarantee an all-in monthly cost: your data or broadband plan, stream length, and local coverage determine whether internet fits within it.
Choose the setup that matches what you want to stream
| Setup | Best for | What you need and what to consider | Budget impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube mobile app | Vlogging, quick updates, and a portable, phone-first start | A supported phone and an eligible channel. You use the phone’s camera and microphone; mobile live access has its own eligibility requirements and may have audience limits. | The basic workflow needs no extra streaming software or hardware. Existing internet or mobile-data costs still apply. |
| Computer webcam | A direct computer workflow when you already have a computer and webcam | YouTube lists webcam streaming as a route. Check live access in your own Studio account; the cited YouTube guidance does not explicitly state a subscriber threshold for this route. | Use a built-in camera if it works for you rather than buying a webcam before testing. |
| Computer with OBS Studio | Gameplay, screen sharing, overlays, or external camera and microphone equipment | Requires a suitable computer, encoder setup, YouTube stream URL and key, and an upload connection tested for your content. | OBS Studio is free and open-source software, according to the OBS Project. Your computer and internet are still real costs, even if you already own them. |
YouTube describes mobile as suited to quick updates and vlogging, webcam as a direct computer option, and encoder streaming as the route for sharing a screen or gameplay and using external audio/video equipment. See YouTube’s overview of live streaming.
Check whether your channel can stream from a phone
YouTube’s current mobile live guidance lists these requirements: at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, live streaming enabled, and a supported device. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check your channel before planning an event around the feature.
Mobile access does not always mean unrestricted reach. For channels with 50–999 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience and set the live archive to private by default. Reaching 1,000 subscribers does not necessarily remove the limit immediately. Consult the current YouTube mobile live-streaming requirements for account-specific details.

Set up the phone-first option without buying gear
- Check eligibility first. Confirm channel verification, subscriber count, policy standing, and live-streaming activation in YouTube. Allow up to 24 hours for first activation.
- Prepare a stable frame. Prop the phone securely on a stable surface you already have. Use a clear, well-lit frame; a tripod is optional, not a requirement.
- Check sound and connection. Listen to the built-in microphone in a private or practice stream if that option is available. Choose a place with reliable coverage or Wi-Fi, and check that your data or broadband allowance suits the planned duration.
- Do a short test before going public. Check framing, lighting, sound, and whether the connection stays stable. Adjust the phone position or move to a stronger connection if it does not.
YouTube’s mobile instructions describe a phone-based workflow that does not require extra equipment: mobile live streaming help.
Set up a computer stream with OBS when you need more control
- Install OBS Studio. The OBS Project describes it as “Free and open source software for video recording and live streaming.” It supports Windows, Mac, and Linux. Download it from the OBS Project.
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and follow its encoder workflow to obtain the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, enter the server URL and key in the streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it on screen.
- Build only the scene you need. Add the screen, game, webcam, microphone, or other sources needed for the broadcast. Check that the right audio source is active and that desktop or game sound is not overpowering speech.
- Test privately or unlisted first. Use representative movement and audio, then check the stream preview and health in YouTube Studio before making the stream public.
- Match encoder settings to measured upload capacity. YouTube recommends a speed test and a representative test stream. For 720p at 30 fps, its encoder table recommends 8 Mbps with H.264, or 6 Mbps with AV1/H.265; for 1080p at 30 fps, it recommends 14 Mbps. These are encoder recommendations, not a promise that a particular Indian mobile network or ISP will sustain them. Start with a setting your connection can reliably hold, not simply the highest resolution available.
Use YouTube’s encoder setup guidance for the current stream URL/key workflow and recommended live encoder settings when configuring quality. The encoder route is useful when a phone app cannot provide the screen capture, overlays, or external hardware your production needs.

Keep the ₹500 budget grounded in recurring costs
The phone and OBS routes can avoid a new streaming-software subscription, but neither makes internet free. Whether the setup stays under ₹500 per month depends on the plan you already pay for, its remaining data allowance, your stream schedule, and the upload coverage where you broadcast. The official setup guidance does not establish a universal Indian data plan or a dependable data-use estimate for every stream, so calculate against your own usage rather than assuming a fixed amount.
Do not buy a tripod, webcam, microphone, or other production accessory until a test reveals a specific problem that an upgrade would solve. A smartphone tripod stand can help with hands-free, repeatable framing, but it is optional; no particular model or current Indian price is established here. First try a stable surface and the phone’s built-in camera and microphone.
