Choose based on your resolution, frame rate and encoder codec, then confirm that your actual upload connection can sustain it during a test. For H.264, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 720p, 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Those are encoder recommendations—not guarantees about what an Airtel plan can upload.
Recommended YouTube live bitrates
YouTube publishes separate minimum and recommended bitrates by codec, resolution and frame rate. Use the row for your encoder’s actual output; do not treat a minimum as the preferred target.
| Codec | Resolution and frame rate | Minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| H.264 | 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| H.264 | 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| H.264 | 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 720p at 30 or 60 fps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 1080p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 1080p at 60 fps | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
These figures are YouTube Help’s published encoder guidance, not a promise that a particular internet plan or home connection will sustain the selected bitrate. Do not mix the AV1 and HEVC values with the H.264 recommendations. Confirm that your encoder and YouTube setup support the codec you select. Will Airtel’s 40 Mbps plan support 1080p?
A plan label such as “up to 40 Mbps” does not establish the sustained upload bitrate available to your device. Airtel’s Xstream Fiber page lists advertised speed tiers including up to 40, 100, 300 Mbps and up to 1 Gbps; some offers have geographic availability conditions. Those advertised speeds do not tell you an individual subscriber’s upload performance or guarantee a particular YouTube setting. Check your upload rate rather than inferring it from the plan’s headline speed or download speed.

- WIFI 6 COVERAGE FOR THE WHOLE HOME: Stay connected in every room with dual-band AX2700 WiFi 6 covering up to 2,000 sq ft and capacity for 25+ connected devices. Real-world coverage depends on home size, layout, and building materials.
- WIRED CONNECTIONS FOR YOUR FASTEST DEVICES: Four Gigabit Ethernet ports keep gaming consoles, desktops, and streaming devices hardwired for the lowest latency and the most stable connection in your home.
Airtel’s broadband explainer also notes that upload and download speeds both matter for streaming. The practical answer to “Does Airtel 40 Mbps support 1080p on YouTube?” is: it might, if your connection can sustain the bitrate required by your chosen resolution and frame rate under real streaming conditions. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 1080p30 is 14 Mbps; for 1080p60 it is 17 Mbps. The plan name alone cannot confirm either. Airtel Xstream Fiber plans · Airtel broadband explainer.
How to choose a bitrate for your Airtel connection
- Pick your target output. Decide whether you need 720p or 1080p and 30 or 60 fps. Higher frame rates can make fast motion smoother, but require a higher bitrate in YouTube’s recommendations.
- Check your encoder codec. Match its output codec to the correct YouTube table values. For example, do not apply the H.264 1080p30 recommendation to an AV1 stream.
- Measure upload under realistic conditions. Run an upload speed test from the same device and network you plan to stream on. Repeat at the time and under the conditions you expect to broadcast, including normal household use. A speed test is an indication, not proof of a stable stream. YouTube says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.”
- Choose a setting that leaves room for variation. If upload speed fluctuates, or other people and devices will use the connection, start below the highest setting your test suggests. If the stream is unstable, lower the bitrate, resolution or frame rate and test again.
- Run a test stream before the event. YouTube advises testing before going live, with audio and movement similar to the actual broadcast. Check YouTube’s stream health during the test and during the live stream.
YouTube does not provide an Airtel-specific bitrate, and the available Airtel plan information does not supply a per-customer upload measurement. The sustainable result from your own test is the useful basis for choosing a setting.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Other encoder settings YouTube recommends
- Protocol: Use RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- Bitrate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval and do not exceed four seconds.
- Supported video codecs listed by YouTube: H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1.
Troubleshoot an unstable live stream
| What you notice | What to try |
|---|---|
| YouTube stream health reports problems or the stream buffers | Retest upload performance. Lower bitrate first; if needed, reduce resolution or frame rate. Test again under the same household network conditions. |
| A speed test looks adequate, but the stream still drops frames | Check whether upload use varies during the broadcast, including other devices and applications. Repeat a test stream at the time you plan to go live and monitor YouTube stream health. |
| The encoder settings do not match the bitrate advice | Verify the selected codec, output resolution and frame rate, then use the matching row in YouTube’s guidance. Confirm CBR and the two-second keyframe interval. |
| The plan’s advertised speed seems higher than the required stream bitrate | Do not assume the headline speed is upload capacity. Measure upload performance from the streaming setup; Airtel’s advertised tier is not an individual sustained-upload guarantee. |
