For a mostly static Hindi study playlist, start with H.264 at 720p30 and 6 Mbps if your upload connection can sustain it, or use 1080p30 and 10 Mbps when a realistic test confirms the extra capacity. Set constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 Kbps. Leave about 20% upload headroom, test before launch, and plan around YouTube’s limits on archiving very long streams.
Recommended settings for a static study playlist
These are YouTube Help’s H.264 encoder recommendations; the pages do not show a publication year. The right resolution is the one your connection can sustain consistently, not necessarily the largest setting available.
| Setting | 720p30 option | 1080p30 option |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264 | H.264 |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280 × 720 at 30 fps | 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps |
| Recommended video bitrate | 6 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| Bitrate mode | CBR | CBR |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 Kbps | AAC stereo, 128 Kbps |
| Approximate total target before headroom | 6.128 Mbps | 10.128 Mbps |
YouTube supports up to 60 fps, but a static study visual usually does not need the additional frame rate. YouTube also says it transcodes incoming streams for different playback formats, so viewers can receive suitable playback versions.
Choose resolution by connection, not habit
For a playlist that shows a largely still background, 720p30 can be a sensible choice if it leaves more reliable capacity for the rest of your network. 1080p30 can preserve more detail in text or artwork, but it requires a higher sustained upload bitrate. Compare both against the upload capacity actually available to the streaming device, including other users and devices.

Measure bandwidth and test the real stream
YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the stream bitrate and warns that network disruption can break a stream. Its 20% figure is a recommendation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. For example, the 720p30 video and audio targets total about 6.128 Mbps before headroom; the 1080p30 targets total about 10.128 Mbps. Your available upload should be materially higher than those totals, with enough reserve for normal fluctuations and shared network use.
- Test the upload connection. Check at the location and on the network that will carry the stream. Consider competing use by other devices rather than relying on an ISP’s advertised maximum.
- Select a target. Start with 720p30 if the higher target leaves too little reliable headroom. Use 1080p30 only if the connection can sustain its bitrate with reserve.
- Run a realistic rehearsal. Include the actual playlist audio and movement, not just a static encoder preview. YouTube specifically advises testing audio and video movement similar to the planned stream.
- Watch stream health and transitions. Check for dropped frames, interruptions, audio gaps, and what happens when one playlist item ends and the next begins. A short test may not reveal failures that occur during a long run.
For a fixed streaming PC, a wired connection may help avoid some wireless instability, but it cannot fix insufficient ISP upload capacity.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Create or select the live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create or select the event you intend to broadcast.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Configure the encoder. Choose H.264, CBR, your selected 720p30 or 1080p30 target and matching video bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo at 128 Kbps.
- Use RTMPS when supported. YouTube describes RTMPS as the secure extension to RTMP. Confirm the encoder and selected workflow support the server URL you use.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Check picture, audio, and stream health in the Live Control Room before starting the event.
- Observe the whole playlist cycle during rehearsal. Confirm that playback advances and loops as intended, and that audio stays continuous across transitions.
YouTube names OBS as an encoder that supports HLS output. HLS is a protocol option for supported codecs and workflows, but it sends segments and has higher latency than RTMP. It also needs protocol-specific segment settings; a non-interactive study playlist generally has little reason to choose higher latency over a compatible RTMP/RTMPS workflow.
Plan for long broadcasts and replay limits
A single 24-hour broadcast is not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. If a replay matters, schedule sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep a separate local recording; do not promise viewers that one continuous day-long stream will leave a complete archive.

YouTube’s settings do not themselves promise infinite playlist looping, automatic restart, or uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Those behaviors depend on the encoder and playback or automation workflow. Rehearse for long enough to observe item transitions, audio continuity, network stability, and recovery after a disruption. The official guidance reviewed does not establish a guaranteed uptime setting.
Clear music rights before going live
Use original music or tracks whose rights cover both the live broadcast and any archive you want to keep. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the live video with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream, or result in a claim on an archived recording after the broadcast.

A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s live-stream terms make the content provider responsible for obtaining necessary rights, including music rights. Resolve permissions and any required allowlisting before scheduling a long session.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health drops or the feed disconnects | Upload capacity is insufficient or fluctuating, or the network is disrupted. | Check actual upload capacity during the stream, reduce the target from 1080p30 to 720p30 if needed, restore headroom, and limit competing network use. Rehearse the revised setup. |
| Audio cuts out or sounds wrong | Encoder audio configuration, source playback, or a playlist transition is failing. | Confirm AAC stereo at 128 Kbps, check the source audio, and test transitions through the complete playlist cycle. |
| Picture or audio is interrupted after a music match | YouTube detected third-party material or the channel is not allowlisted by the rights owner. | Stop using material without the needed live and archive rights; contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting where applicable. |
| The event runs but does not loop or restart as expected | The chosen encoder or playback workflow may not provide the assumed loop or recovery behavior. | Verify the specific workflow’s loop and recovery controls and run a long rehearsal. YouTube’s stream settings do not establish an automatic loop or restart guarantee. |
| The 24-hour broadcast has no complete replay or full rewind | YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours; DVR can also be limited for streams of that length. | Use planned sessions shorter than 12 hours when a replay matters, and make a separate local recording. |
| Encoder does not connect using the selected protocol | The encoder, URL, key, or protocol workflow may not match. | Recheck the server URL and stream key in YouTube Studio, confirm the key belongs to the selected event, and use RTMPS only when the encoder supports it. |
