PlayStation Plus Extra is the closest researched alternative for a broad console game library—if you have a PlayStation console or are prepared to switch hardware. On PC, Ubisoft+ is worth considering when you mainly want Ubisoft games, but it is a narrower, publisher-focused service rather than a direct replacement for Game Pass. Choose by platform and the games you want, not by comparing advertised catalog counts that describe different things.
At a glance: which alternative fits?
| Service | Best fit | What the US service page describes | US price observed | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation Plus Extra | PlayStation owners seeking a broad, rotating console catalog | A Game Catalog described as hundreds of games; Ubisoft+ Classics is also included | $16.99/month or $134.99/year | The catalog changes. PS5 games can only be downloaded on PS5; PS4 games are added only intermittently from January 2026. Sony PlayStation Plus |
| PlayStation Plus Premium | PlayStation users who want classics, trials or cloud streaming as well as the Game Catalog | Extra features plus a Classics Catalog, game trials and cloud streaming | $19.99/month or $159.99/year | Streaming depends on territory, device, internet and game eligibility. Sony PlayStation Plus |
| Ubisoft+ Classics | PC players interested in a selection of Ubisoft titles | An evolving selection of standard-edition Ubisoft games on PC | $7.99/month | It is a publisher-specific selection, not a broad cross-publisher library. Ubisoft+ plans |
| Ubisoft+ Premium | Ubisoft-focused players seeking newer releases and PC access | Ubisoft advertises 145+ games on PC, day-one releases and early access when available; the page also lists “Play on Xbox” | $17.99/month | Premium editions may not include all premium content; check the individual game and current plan terms. Ubisoft+ plans |
These are US prices displayed on the publishers’ pages when checked October 4, 2026, not guaranteed future prices or promotions. Sony says its subscription continues until cancelled; Ubisoft says cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle. Catalogs, terms and regional availability can change.
PlayStation Plus Extra: the closest broad console alternative
Sony describes Extra’s Game Catalog as containing hundreds of games, with new titles added regularly. That makes it the closest researched option here for someone who wants a rotating, multi-game console library. A catalog count does not guarantee that a particular game is available, however, so check the live catalog for the titles you intend to play before subscribing.
Hardware matters: PS Plus console downloads require PlayStation hardware, and Sony specifies that PS5 games can only be downloaded to a PS5. If you currently play on Xbox, include the cost and inconvenience of changing platforms in your decision. Sony also says PS4 games are added only intermittently from January 2026, so do not assume a steady stream of new PS4 additions.

PlayStation Plus Premium: pay more for specific features
Premium includes the Game Catalog and adds a Classics Catalog, game trials and cloud streaming. It is the tier to compare if those additions matter to you; it is not automatically the better choice simply because it is more expensive. Sony lists a 5 Mbps minimum internet connection for streaming and 15 Mbps for 1080p. Streaming availability varies by territory, device and eligible game, and some games cannot be streamed. Check Sony’s current plan and streaming details for your region.
Ubisoft+: a focused PC option, not a general library replacement
Ubisoft+ can suit PC players whose wish list is mostly Ubisoft releases. The US Premium page advertises 145+ PC games, day-one releases and early access when available. Classics is a less expensive option for an evolving selection of the publisher’s games, but it lists standard editions. Ubisoft also lists “Play on Xbox” for Premium; check the current plan and game pages to confirm the availability and access method for any specific title.

The two Ubisoft+ counts and catalog descriptions should not be treated as equivalent to PlayStation’s broader multi-publisher catalog. Premium editions may not include every premium add-on or piece of content, so verify the individual game listing before paying.
Check Game Pass pricing and terms before leaving
If cost is the reason you are considering a switch, compare alternatives with the current Game Pass price—not an older article’s figure. Team Xbox announced on April 21, 2026 that, in the US, Game Pass Ultimate dropped from $29.99 to $22.99 per month and PC Game Pass from $16.49 to $13.99 per month. Xbox said prices may vary by region. These are volatile subscription prices, so confirm the current amount in your market on the Xbox Wire announcement and current plan page.

The same announcement said future Call of Duty releases would join Ultimate and PC Game Pass during the following holiday season, about a year after release, rather than at launch; current Call of Duty titles remained available. If launch access to a particular upcoming game is decisive, verify the policy near that game’s release.
Xbox’s comparison page describes EA Play as access to a collection of EA games and select new-game trials, and Ubisoft+ Classics as 50+ iconic games. These are benefits listed within Xbox’s Game Pass comparison, not evidence that either is a standalone, broad multi-publisher substitute. See Xbox’s current Game Pass comparison.

How to choose
- Start with your hardware. If you already own a PS5 and want a broad console catalog, check PS Plus Extra. If you are on PC and primarily want Ubisoft games, compare Ubisoft+ plans. Factor in a platform change before treating PS Plus as an Xbox drop-in replacement.
- Check the games you actually plan to play. Search the current catalog and confirm platform, edition and availability; subscription libraries rotate.
- Match the tier to the feature. Choose Premium only if classics, trials or eligible streaming are worth the additional cost to you.
- Compare recurring cost and access terms. Use current regional prices, and distinguish downloads from streaming and publisher-specific access.
- Recheck volatile terms before subscribing. Prices, catalogs, release timing and regional support can change.
Why game counts alone do not identify a winner
The cited figures use different scopes: Sony calls Extra’s Game Catalog “hundreds of games,” Ubisoft advertises 145+ PC games for Premium, and Xbox describes Ubisoft+ Classics as 50+ iconic games within its comparison page. They are not a like-for-like audit of total playable libraries, and they do not establish which service offers better value. Compare the games and features relevant to you, on the platform you own.
