For most YouTube face-cam streams, a good 1080p webcam is enough; choose 1080p60 if smoother motion matters. Buy 4K only if you have a specific need to capture, crop, or record in 4K—and a computer and connection that support the camera’s 4K mode. There is no single best webcam for every creator: the right choice depends on framing, focus, lighting, audio, and how you plan to stream.
Which webcam should you choose?
These are buying options, not a head-to-head lab ranking. The cited sources do not provide a consistent comparative test, and current prices and stock were not verified. Check the exact model and its current specifications before buying.
| Webcam | Reasons to consider it | Trade-offs and checks |
|---|---|---|
| Logitech Brio 4K | Logitech’s current US product page specifies 4K at 30 fps and 1080p at up to 60 fps. It lists autofocus, automatic light correction, adjustable fields of view, three framing presets, integrated microphones, and a mount. | Confirm which Brio generation you are buying and what connection its high-resolution mode needs. Logitech’s legacy BRIO 4K Stream Edition support page says USB 3.0 is required for 4K and USB 2.0 is limited to 1080p/30 fps; that note should not be assumed to apply to every Brio generation. |
| Elgato Facecam (original) | Digital Camera World describes the original Facecam as a streaming-focused uncompressed 1080p60 webcam with image adjustments through Camera Hub. | The cited review says it has no built-in microphone or autofocus. Budget for separate audio if needed, and do not assume the original model’s specifications apply to Facecam MK.2. |
| Elgato Facecam MK.2 | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 guide reports 1080p at up to 120 fps, customizable settings, a privacy shutter, and settings storage. | It has no built-in microphone, according to that guide. The 120 fps specification and other listed features are specific to MK.2. |
| OBSBOT Tiny 2 | Digital Camera World describes it as a 4K webcam with pan-and-tilt tracking, a potential fit for presenters who move around the frame. | The guide reports no external audio support and availability constraints at the time of its coverage. Verify current stock and whether the exact setup supports your audio needs. |
Logitech’s figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The Facecam and OBSBOT details come from editorial guides, not a single standardized comparison. These sources do not establish a universal winner or a comparable low-light score.
Do you need a 4K webcam?
Usually not for a face-cam stream viewed at 1080p. Tom’s Guide’s advice is that most buyers probably do not need 4K unless they regularly need 2160p output; that is editorial guidance, not a YouTube requirement. A 4K camera is more compelling if you will record in 4K, crop or reframe a 4K capture, or deliver an actual 4K production. Confirm that the specific camera mode works with your host computer and connection.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
For Logitech’s current US Brio page, the listed modes are “4K Ultra HD video at 30 fps” and “HD 1080p at up to 60 fps.” Those are product specifications. The legacy BRIO 4K Stream Edition’s USB requirements are model-specific, so check the support information for the exact unit rather than applying that limitation to the whole Brio line.
Is 1080p60 enough for streaming?
For many face-cam streams, yes. 1080p60 is a sensible target when smooth motion is more important than 4K detail. The camera’s maximum frame rate is not a promise that your entire stream will run at that frame rate: the host computer, streaming setup, and YouTube stream configuration also matter. Match your capture settings to what your computer can sustain and what you intend to publish.
Some cameras support higher capture frame rates for particular uses. Tom’s Guide reports up to 120 fps at 1080p for Facecam MK.2; that does not mean you need to stream at 120 fps, or that the original Facecam has the same capability.

How to choose for your setup
Match resolution and frame rate to the job
- Choose 1080p60 when a smooth face-cam image is your priority and 1080p is sufficient for the finished stream.
- Choose 4K when you have a real 2160p, crop, reframe, or recording use—not simply because the label is larger.
- Check the exact camera’s supported modes and connection requirements. Do not generalize a legacy model’s USB limitation to newer variants.
Think about focus, movement, and framing
Autofocus can help when you move closer to or farther from the camera; a fixed or less forgiving focus setup may be less suitable for that movement. A wider field of view can include more of a room, while a tighter view can keep attention on the presenter. Check whether the webcam provides the framing controls you want: Logitech lists adjustable fields of view and three framing presets for its current Brio product.

Aesthetically, it creates a sleek, modern look that stands out from plain webcams. Functionally, the glow helps users locate the camera and shows active status clearly. If you move around while presenting, tracking may matter more than extra resolution. The OBSBOT Tiny 2 is described as using pan-and-tilt tracking, but verify the current model’s availability and the compatibility of your intended setup.
Account for light and audio
Logitech lists automatic light correction on its current Brio page, but the sources do not establish a universal low-light winner. Room lighting and camera placement affect the result, so consider the light in your actual shooting position rather than relying on a specification alone.
A webcam microphone can simplify a basic setup; the current Brio page lists integrated microphones. The original Facecam and Facecam MK.2 are described in the cited coverage as having no built-in microphone. If you choose either, plan how you will capture audio. YouTube’s encoder route allows external audio and video hardware; the sources do not compare microphones or establish that every creator needs a dedicated one.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck mounting, privacy, controls, and host compatibility
Confirm how the camera attaches to your monitor, tripod, or intended position. Check for a privacy control if you want one: Tom’s Guide reports a privacy shutter on Facecam MK.2. Also check the model’s software controls and whether the computer and applications you use support the camera’s desired capture mode. Logitech’s legacy BRIO 4K Stream Edition support page lists OBS among supported third-party applications; do not treat that specific legacy support note as a compatibility guarantee for every webcam or setup.

Which webcam works with OBS?
YouTube says creators can stream through a webcam, a mobile device, or an encoder such as streaming software or a hardware encoder. Its guidance explains that an encoder can use external audio and video hardware and support more advanced productions, such as using a few cameras and microphones. A webcam buyer does not automatically need a separate hardware encoder.
The legacy BRIO 4K Stream Edition support page names OBS among supported third-party applications. For another model, check its current compatibility information and confirm that OBS can see the camera at your intended resolution and frame rate. Camera application support and the camera’s maximum specification are not the same as a guarantee that every host configuration will work at that maximum.
Do you need a separate microphone?
Not necessarily: the Logitech current Brio page lists integrated microphones, while the cited coverage says both the original Elgato Facecam and Facecam MK.2 lack built-in microphones. Decide based on the exact model and the audio setup you want. If using an encoder, YouTube allows external audio hardware, but the cited material does not rank microphone choices or claim that any particular accessory is essential.

YouTube’s official help page says: “There are three ways to stream on YouTube: use a webcam, your mobile device, or an encoder (streaming software or a hardware encoder).” A direct webcam path can suit a straightforward camera stream. An encoder is useful when you want to bring in external audio or video hardware or manage a more advanced production. Choose the workflow for the production you actually need; buying a webcam alone does not require buying an encoder.
