Quick wins for a faster PC:

Cloud services render the game remotely, while Steam Remote Play can stream from another capable gaming PC you already have. The right choice depends on the exact game, your connection, device, region and tolerance for input delay.
Start by making the game easier to run locally
If you want to keep playing on your own PC, change graphics settings before looking for another machine or a subscription. The effect varies by game and hardware, so treat these as practical adjustments to test rather than guaranteed frame-rate improvements.
- Choose a lower graphics preset. Test a lower preset and check whether gameplay becomes smoother without making the picture unacceptable.
- Reduce demanding effects. Turn down or disable ray tracing if the game offers it. You can also lower other costly settings available in that game.
- Lower the render resolution. Rendering fewer pixels can reduce the graphics workload, but it also makes the image less sharp.
- Enable a supported upscaler. If the game offers AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), try it and compare the result with native rendering. FSR reconstructs a higher-resolution image from lower-resolution frames; it is available only where the game and hardware support it, and results differ by title and system. AMD’s FSR overview explains the technology.
Evaluate both smoothness and image quality after each change. If performance remains inadequate, the graphics card may not be the only limit: the result also depends on the game and the rest of the system. No single setting or upscaler is established as a fix for every PC.
When cloud gaming makes sense
Cloud gaming is an option when your local graphics hardware cannot run a supported game well enough. A remote system renders the game and streams video to your device. The device still has to receive, decode and display that stream, so a weak GPU may matter less, but connection quality, location, device and input delay still affect the experience.

Do not assume a cloud service includes every game you own. Before subscribing, check the exact title, the store or account it uses, your region, compatible device and the relevant plan. Catalogs and availability change, so use each provider’s current catalog and plan details.
GeForce NOW
NVIDIA’s current GeForce NOW system requirements specify a connection of 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 FPS and 45 Mbps for 4K at 120 FPS. NVIDIA also specifies latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center and recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. These are NVIDIA’s service guidelines, not a guarantee of smooth play; bandwidth alone does not establish latency or stream quality. Check the current GeForce NOW system requirements for supported devices and other details.

NVIDIA reported more than 2,200 additional Steam titles and over 4,500 combined Ready-to-Play and Install-to-Play titles in its 2026 Blackwell announcement. Those are company-reported catalog figures, and the selection can change; they do not mean every Steam title is available. Verify your specific game in the service catalog. NVIDIA’s announcement includes the figures.
Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox says cloud gaming performs best with a 20 Mbps connection on PCs, consoles and tablets, while noting that performance is affected by internet connection, user location, device and other factors. The cloud catalog and availability vary by region, plan and platform. Check whether the game is included or must be separately owned, and confirm that your device and plan support the way you intend to play. See the Xbox Cloud Gaming FAQ for current guidance.

Use Steam Remote Play if you have another gaming PC
Steam Remote Play streams video and audio from a host PC to another device. The host runs the game, so this helps when you have access to a capable gaming PC elsewhere; it does not make an underpowered host render a demanding title faster. Steam describes how the feature works in its Remote Play documentation.
Compare the options against your game and setup
Check game access first: an unavailable title rules out that service regardless of its technical specifications. Then compare the connection, ownership requirements, cost and performance characteristics that matter to you.

Choose based on what you can verify
- Want to avoid recurring costs? Try local settings and upscaling first. Their results are game- and hardware-dependent.
- Do not have a capable PC to host? Compare cloud services only after confirming your exact title, account or store, region and device.
- Have another capable PC? Steam Remote Play can let you use a different screen or client device while that PC runs the game.
- Concerned about responsiveness? Check latency and stability, not just download bandwidth. A stream can meet a provider’s bandwidth guidance and still be a poor fit for your connection or sensitivity to input delay.
For TV play, NVIDIA requires a supported gamepad; verify that your controller and device are supported before buying anything. Ethernet or a 5 GHz router may be worth considering only if your current network is unsuitable. Check the service’s device requirements and game controls first.
