For a normal long document, use Playwright’s full-page screenshot option. If content appears only after scrolling, first scroll through the page in viewport-sized steps, wait for the specific content you need, then capture the full page. The key distinction: full-page capture covers the document’s scrollable extent, but does not necessarily trigger the page’s scroll-dependent loading behavior.
Capture an ordinary long page with Playwright
Playwright’s full-page option captures the full scrollable page. In JavaScript:

browser.close()Replace the example URL with the target page. The navigation wait shown is only a starting point: a page can finish its initial navigation before its application content or below-the-fold elements are ready.
Make scroll-triggered content load before capture
Some pages load images, sections, or cards when they approach the visible area. A full-page screenshot does not guarantee that the browser has run the real scroll behavior needed to load them. Scroll down through the page first, pause to let the site react, wait for a page-specific signal, then return to the top if the screenshot should begin there.

- Navigate: open the page and choose a navigation wait appropriate to the site.
- Scroll in viewport-sized increments: allow lazy images and observer-triggered sections to enter the viewport.
- Wait for the content you need: prefer a specific element or application signal over a generic network wait.
- Return to the top: do this if you want the screenshot to start from the page’s beginning.
- Capture full page: use
fullPage: truein JavaScript orfull_page=Truein Python. - Inspect the result: check the bottom, images, charts, and any sections that appeared after scrolling.
A reusable JavaScript example follows. It scrolls through the currently measured document height; for pages that append more content as you scroll, remeasure the height during the pass or use a page-specific completion condition.

})();The repeated pass is a practical heuristic, not proof that all content has loaded. Replace the generic body check with a selector, expected item count, or other condition that represents the content you actually need.

Choose a useful readiness condition
Waiting for navigation alone is not the same as waiting for application content. Playwright defines networkidle as no network connections for at least 500 ms, but discourages treating it as a general readiness test; use web assertions or a page-specific condition instead. See Playwright’s Page API documentation.
- Wait for a known section or image to become visible when a specific element matters.
- For appended lists, wait until the expected item count is present or the site indicates loading is complete.
- For a chart or application view, wait for the relevant rendered element or application state rather than assuming the network has gone quiet.
- If the site keeps polling or streaming, a network-idle condition may never occur; use a bounded, relevant condition instead.
Handle page types that need a different approach
Lazy images and IntersectionObserver sections
Actual scrolling gives lazy images and observer callbacks an opportunity to run. A single full-page render may not invoke those behaviors, so scroll first and inspect the output. A Playwright issue discussing this limitation is a report and feature request, not a released automatic lazy-loading API: Playwright issue 36928.

Virtualized lists
A virtualized list may keep only nearby rows mounted in the document. A single tall screenshot can therefore omit rows that were never rendered. Consider capturing while traversing the list or using an export provided by the site; neither approach is guaranteed for every implementation.
One component instead of the whole page
If you need only one chart, panel, or other element, use an element screenshot rather than capturing the entire document. Playwright documents full-page, viewport, and element capture modes in its screenshot guide.

Visual record versus readable structure
A screenshot is useful for layout, charts, canvas output, or visual bug reports. If the goal is to read or interact with page structure, an accessibility snapshot may be a better fit. The Playwright MCP documentation discusses screenshots and accessibility snapshots as serving different purposes.
Make captures more repeatable
Dynamic content, animation, and layout changes can make repeated screenshots differ. Playwright’s screenshot API supports options such as full-page capture and a stylesheet for adjusting dynamic elements. Use site-appropriate CSS to suppress transitions or stabilize known moving components when repeatability matters; confirm that the adjusted page still represents the state you intend to record. Troubleshoot missing or incomplete content
- Bottom sections are absent: the page may add content on scroll. Scroll through it, allow callbacks to run, and repeat if the document grows.
- Images are blank: they may be lazy-loaded or still downloading. Scroll them into view, wait for the relevant image or section, and inspect the resulting capture.
- Only some list rows appear: the page may virtualize its list. A full-page screenshot cannot include rows that were never mounted; capture during traversal or use a site-supported export.
- The script waits indefinitely for network idle: a page may keep connections open or make continuing requests. Use a page-specific condition rather than network idle as a universal readiness test.
- The screenshot is too tall or unwieldy: capture the relevant element instead, or use a site-provided export if the goal is data rather than a visual record.
- Sticky elements overlap or repeat: fixed-position elements can behave differently in a full-page image. Inspect the output and consider a controlled stylesheet adjustment if a stable visual record is required.
