For most beach and pool trips, the JBL Charge 6 is the strongest overall choice in this comparison: it combines the highest listed water-protection rating, the longest stated battery life, USB-C connectivity and 40W power. Choose the Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) when compact size and sound quality matter most, the Sony ULT FIELD 1 for a rugged speaker with extra-bass features, or the JBL Flip 6 when you want a smaller shower and travel speaker.
No IP rating makes a speaker an underwater device. IP67 is designed for dust-tight protection and temporary immersion under specified test conditions; IP68 represents a higher immersion rating, but the permitted depth and time depend on the manufacturer. Keep charging ports closed, rinse away salt or chlorine only as the manufacturer permits, and let the speaker dry before charging.

What is the best waterproof Bluetooth speaker for the beach?
The JBL Charge 6 is the best fit when a beach speaker needs long playback and the highest published protection rating among these four models. Its listed 20-hour battery is the longest in the comparison, reducing the chance that music stops during a full day away from an outlet. The IP68 rating also gives it a higher stated immersion class than the IP67 alternatives, although the exact IP68 test depth and duration must be checked for the regional model.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Beach use adds hazards that an IP number does not fully describe. Fine sand can work into exposed openings, salt water can accelerate corrosion, and direct sun can heat the enclosure and battery. Keep the speaker on a clean towel or raised surface rather than burying it in sand. Close every protective flap before exposure, and use fresh water to remove salt only if the manufacturer allows rinsing for that model. Dry the exterior and charging area completely before connecting a cable.
Why the Charge 6 suits a full day outside
- The comparison lists 20 hours of battery life, the longest stated runtime here.
- What Hi-Fi reports 40W power, useful when you need more acoustic headroom outdoors, but power does not by itself predict tonal balance or maximum loudness in every setting.
- USB-C connections make the charging interface familiar, while the port still needs to remain dry and its protective seal closed during water exposure.
- Current regional versions and prices should be verified before purchase; the supplied specifications do not establish one universal price.
What is the best Bluetooth speaker for the pool?
The Charge 6 is the practical poolside default if you value the combination of battery endurance and a higher published immersion rating. If your priority is a smaller enclosure that is easy to place beside a lounge chair, the Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) is the compact premium alternative. Both are intended for rain, splashes and outdoor use rather than deliberate underwater playback.
Poolside safety decisions
- Place the speaker where a splash cannot knock it into the pool. An IP rating describes test exposure, not recovery from every impact, chemical concentration or period of submersion.
- Do not attach a wet charging cable. Water trapped in a port can cause corrosion or a short circuit even after the outside looks dry.
- Chlorinated water and salt water are chemically different from the fresh water used in many rating tests. Follow the model’s cleaning guidance instead of assuming that an IP67 or IP68 label covers repeated chemical exposure.
- Do not use a speaker as a flotation device or assume it will remain on the surface. None of the cited product information documents floating behavior for these models.
What is the best waterproof Bluetooth speaker for the shower?
The JBL Flip 6 is the most suitable of these options when the speaker must fit a smaller bathroom or travel bag. Its IP67 protection, 12-hour stated playtime and PartyBoost compatibility cover the practical needs of shower listening without requiring the larger Charge 6 body. The Sony ULT FIELD 1 is another option if a compact rugged design and extra-bass controls are more important than the Flip 6’s smaller-travel positioning.

Keep the speaker outside the direct spray and away from the hottest, most humid part of the room. IP testing concerns water ingress under defined conditions; it does not establish unlimited resistance to hot steam, soap, shampoo, drops or a fall onto tile. Use a stable, dry shelf, keep the charging flap closed, and wait until the enclosure and port are dry before charging.

Is IP67 waterproof enough?
For a portable speaker expected to handle rain, splashes, a pool party or an accidental short dunk, IP67 is generally the minimum useful target. Tom’s Guide recommends at least IP54 for splash resistance and IP67 for a speaker expected to survive a pool party or beach trip. IP67’s first digit, 6, indicates a dust-tight enclosure. The second digit, 7, indicates protection against temporary immersion under the rating’s specified test conditions.
“Waterproof” is convenient consumer language, but it can imply more than the certification proves. IP67 does not mean a speaker is safe to play underwater, withstand unlimited submersion, survive high-pressure jets, or remain unaffected by salt and chlorine. The Bose guidance is explicit: IP67 SoundLink models are built for “rain, splashes, poolside use, and other outdoor environments,” but “they should not be used as underwater speakers.”
IP67 versus IP68
| Rating | What the rating establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| IP67 | Dust-tight protection and temporary immersion under specified conditions | Unlimited immersion, underwater playback, resistance to chemicals or protection after a damaged seal |
| IP68 | A higher immersion rating than IP67 under conditions specified by the manufacturer | One universal depth or time for every product, or permission to use the speaker underwater |
The IP code is only meaningful while the enclosure, seals and port covers are intact. A cracked housing, loose flap or worn gasket can change the real-world result even when the printed rating has not changed.
What “up to one meter for 30 minutes” means
RTINGS describes the Bose SoundLink Flex’s IP67 capability as immersion in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes. That is a description of the rating capability, not a recommended listening mode or a promise that every drop, impact and chemical exposure will have the same result. Treat an accidental dunk as an event to recover from: remove the speaker, drain and dry it, and do not charge until the port is fully dry.

Speaker-by-speaker guide
JBL Charge 6: best overall
Choose the Charge 6 when the speaker will spend long periods outdoors and you want the strongest combination of the published specifications in this group. What Hi-Fi’s 2026 comparison lists it as the best waterproof speaker overall, with IP68 protection, 20 hours of battery life, 40W power and USB-C connections.
Its main trade-off is physical practicality: the supplied specifications do not state dimensions, weight or a carrying method, so confirm those details for the exact regional model if your bag or bike cage has tight limits. The IP68 label also requires careful reading of the manufacturer’s conditions; it is a higher rating, not a license to submerge the unit for recreation.
Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen): compact premium choice
The SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) is aimed at listeners who would rather carry a compact speaker and prioritize sound quality than maximize battery figures or power specifications. Bose describes compatible IP67 SoundLink models as protected against dust and temporary immersion and suitable for rain, splashes, poolside use and outdoor environments.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThat guidance includes an important boundary: Bose says these speakers should not be used as underwater speakers. RTINGS describes the SoundLink Flex as fully dust-tight and immersible to up to one meter for 30 minutes. The supplied information does not establish a battery-life figure, dimensions, weight, floating behavior or price for the second-generation model, so verify those items before buying if they determine your choice.

Sony ULT FIELD 1: rugged bass-oriented alternative
The ULT FIELD 1 is for listeners who want a compact, rugged speaker with a bass-enhancement feature. Sony’s product information gives it an IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating, up to 12 hours of playback per charge and the ability to link two units for stereo pairing. Sony describes it as “ready for the elements” with that rating.
Two-unit stereo pairing can create a wider presentation than one enclosure, but it requires buying or already owning a second compatible speaker and keeping both charged. The ULT extra-bass feature is a listening preference rather than a guarantee of a particular low-frequency response outdoors; walls, wind and placement still affect what you hear.
JBL Flip 6: smaller portable option
The Flip 6 is the straightforward choice for showers, travel and smaller bags. JBL’s specification sheet lists IP67 waterproof and dustproof protection, 12 hours of playtime, wireless Bluetooth streaming and PartyBoost pairing for compatible speakers.

How to choose by location and listening goal
For a sandy beach
- Pick the Charge 6 if the longest listed runtime and IP68 rating are your priorities.
- Pick the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) if compact carry and sound quality outweigh the need for a stated long runtime.
- Keep any model elevated from sand and close its port cover before exposure.
For a pool deck
- Use the Charge 6 for the strongest published water-protection class in this comparison.
- Use the Bose model when a compact premium enclosure is more convenient beside a chair.
- Do not assume any model floats; floating behavior is not documented in the cited specifications.
For a shower
- The Flip 6 is the smallest-travel-oriented choice in this group, with IP67 and 12-hour playtime.
- The ULT FIELD 1 suits listeners who prefer extra-bass controls and may later add a second unit for stereo.
- Keep the speaker out of direct spray and never charge it in a wet bathroom.
For stereo listening
- Sony documents linking two ULT FIELD 1 units for stereo pairing.
- JBL documents PartyBoost pairing for compatible Flip 6 speakers.
- No pairing capability is established in the supplied comparison for the Charge 6, and no pairing detail is stated for the Bose model.
Care routine after beach, pool or shower use
- End playback and close the charging flap. Check that the seal is seated before carrying the speaker through splashes or rain.
- Inspect for sand or debris. Brush loose particles away without forcing grit into a port, grille or seam.
- Rinse only when permitted. If the manufacturer allows fresh-water rinsing, use that guidance to remove salt or chlorine; do not infer chemical resistance from the IP number alone.
- Drain and wipe. Hold the speaker so trapped water can leave openings, then wipe the exterior with a soft cloth.
- Air-dry completely. Pay particular attention to the charging area and flap. Do not connect USB-C or another cable while moisture remains.
- Inspect the seal before the next outing. A torn flap, cracked casing or loose gasket invalidates confidence in the original rating.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
“IP67 means I can play it underwater”
It does not. IP67 describes temporary immersion under test conditions. The Bose guidance specifically excludes underwater-speaker use, and the same conservative approach is appropriate for every model here.
“IP68 has one standard depth and time”
It does not. IP68 is a higher immersion class, but the manufacturer specifies the conditions. Read the exact manual or regional product page for the Charge 6 rather than applying a depth copied from another device.
“A sealed speaker can be charged immediately after a swim”
Charging while the port or plug is wet can damage the connector. Dry the speaker and port fully first, even if playback still works.
“The speaker will float because it is waterproof”
Water resistance and buoyancy are different properties. Floating behavior is not documented for the four models covered here, so use a secure, raised position near water.
“A higher watt number guarantees better sound”
Power is only one specification. The Charge 6 comparison lists 40W, while the Bose, Sony and Flip 6 notes emphasize different priorities such as compact sound, extra bass or portability. Room acoustics, placement, recording quality and personal taste affect the result.
Decision checklist
- Choose JBL Charge 6 for the longest stated battery life, USB-C connections, 40W listed power and the highest published immersion class among these picks.
- Choose Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) for a compact premium speaker intended for rain, splashes and poolside listening, with the manufacturer’s clear warning against underwater use.
- Choose Sony ULT FIELD 1 for IP67 protection, up to 12 hours of playback, extra-bass controls and documented two-unit stereo pairing.
- Choose JBL Flip 6 for a smaller travel or shower speaker with IP67 protection, 12-hour playtime and PartyBoost compatibility.
Before ordering, confirm the exact regional model, current price, dimensions, charging details and manufacturer care instructions. Those details can vary by market or revision and are not all established in the published specifications summarized here.
