Set the vivo X500 Ultra to adaptive brightness, a short screen timeout, scheduled Eye Protection, Dark theme if your apps support it, and adaptive or lower refresh rate for everyday use. Reserve the maximum refresh rate for games that actually support it, and wait for vivo’s final battery-health and charging menus before choosing a percentage limit. The X500 Ultra is not officially released as of 20 October 2026, so every Ultra hardware detail remains a report rather than a confirmed specification.
Current reports from Android Authority and GSMArena describe a possible China launch in March or April 2027, with a 6.85-inch BOE flat LTPO display, 2K-class resolution, refresh rates up to 144Hz and a battery around 7,000mAh or larger. Those details are not on an official X500 Ultra product page. The settings below therefore separate actions you can take immediately from options that must be verified on the shipping OriginOS build.
What is confirmed, and what is still a leak
The safest way to tune an unreleased phone is to distinguish documented behavior from rumored hardware. vivo’s current X500 documentation is useful for understanding likely controls, but it does not prove that the X500 Ultra will use the same panel, battery, charging system or menu labels.

Change these settings first
1. Enable Auto-brightness, then trim it for comfort
Brightness is usually the most immediate display-and-battery decision. A very bright OLED panel can consume substantially more energy than a comfortable indoor level, while an overly dim setting makes you compensate by staring longer or disabling power-saving features.
- Open Settings > Display & brightness.
- Turn on Auto-brightness.
- Use the brightness slider to bias the automatic level. If the screen is brighter than necessary indoors, lower it slightly rather than disabling automatic control.
- Check the result in three places: a dim room, normal indoor light and direct outdoor light. Leave enough headroom for outdoor readability.
Automatic brightness is not a promise of maximum battery life. Its value is that it responds when light changes, avoiding a high manual level that remains active all day. If the launch software exposes a learning or calibration option, give it several days before judging the behavior.
2. Set a short Screen timeout
Screen timeout locks the display after inactivity. A phone that remains lit while you are reading a notification, setting it down or waiting for a download can waste more energy than a single high-refresh-rate session.

- Go to Settings > Display & brightness > Screen timeout, or use the Display settings search box if the label is moved.
- Choose the shortest value that does not interrupt your normal reading. Around 30 seconds to one minute is a sensible starting point for most people; the exact choices may differ on the final OriginOS build.
- Increase it only if the display repeatedly locks while you are actively using it.
Timeout affects idle drain, not the power used while the screen is actively in use. It is therefore a low-risk first change: you gain standby efficiency without reducing animation smoothness or color quality.
3. Schedule Eye Protection for evening use
vivo describes Eye Protection as warming and softening screen color. Use it when comfort matters more than neutral color, particularly for long reading sessions at night.
- Open Settings > Display & brightness > Eye Protection (the shipping phone may use a similar Night light or night-color label).
- Enable a schedule covering your usual evening and sleeping hours.
- Adjust the warmth until white backgrounds look comfortable without becoming orange.
- Disable it temporarily when editing photos, checking product colors or doing any work that requires color fidelity.
Eye Protection is primarily a comfort setting. It may let you use a lower brightness because the screen feels less harsh, but vivo does not publish a fixed battery saving percentage for it.

4. Use Dark theme when your apps support it
vivo’s manual states: “Dark theme uses a solid black background, which can help reduce screen glare and extend battery life.” On an OLED display, black pixels emit little or no light, so black-heavy interfaces can use less power than bright backgrounds. The saving depends on the app, brightness and how much of the screen is actually black.
- Open Settings > Display & brightness > Dark theme.
- Turn it on, or schedule it for sunset and your usual bedtime.
- Review frequently used apps individually. Some use true black, while others use dark gray or ignore the system theme.
- Keep Light theme for tasks where contrast, accessibility or color matching is better for you.
Do not expect a fixed percentage reduction. A mostly white web page, video or camera preview gains little from Dark theme even when the system menus are black.
5. Leave refresh rate adaptive or lower for routine use
High refresh rates make scrolling and supported games look smoother, but they increase work for the display and graphics system. vivo’s related manual puts the trade-off plainly: “A higher screen refresh rate results in smoother animations, higher system power consumption, and more heat generation.”

- Open Settings > Display & brightness > Screen refresh rate or the equivalent display-performance control.
- Choose Adaptive or the automatic option for normal use if it is available.
- If you want longer endurance or the phone runs warm, select a lower fixed mode such as 90Hz or 60Hz when offered.
- Use 144Hz only for games that support it and only when the smoother response is worth the extra heat and drain.
The related X500 page says 144Hz takes effect only in games that support it. That means a 144Hz selection may not force every app to render at 144 frames per second. The Ultra’s final behavior could differ, so check the on-screen information panel and a game’s own frame-rate setting.

6. Review battery usage before enabling aggressive restrictions
After one or two normal days, inspect which apps are actually consuming power. vivo documentation confirms battery-usage and power-consumption controls, but the final X500 Ultra menu path and labels are not published.

- Sort by recent or total use and identify apps consuming power while you are not actively using them.
- For an app that is clearly misbehaving, restrict background activity, reduce its notification frequency or uninstall it if you do not need it.
- Do not restrict messaging, alarm, navigation or security apps without checking the consequences; background limits can delay notifications or location updates.
Use the system battery-saver mode for a specific situation, such as a long trip or a low-charge emergency, rather than leaving every restriction enabled from day one. Aggressive limits can reduce synchronization and make the phone feel unreliable even when they save energy.

7. Wait for the final charging-health controls before setting a limit
There is no confirmed X500 Ultra charging wattage, battery-health limit, thermal behavior or charging menu. Do not assume the related X500’s documented 90W wired or 40W wireless figures apply to the Ultra, and do not prescribe an 80%, 85% or 90% cap until vivo publishes the final manual.
When the phone launches, look under Settings > Battery for a charging-protection, battery-health or smart-charging option. If a percentage limit exists, choose it based on your routine: a lower cap can reduce time spent at full charge, while a full charge may be necessary on travel or heavy-use days. The correct choice depends on the control vivo actually provides and your need for capacity.

- Open Settings > Display & brightness and enable Auto-brightness.
- Set Screen timeout to a short value that does not interrupt active reading.
- Schedule Eye Protection for evening hours and leave it off during color-critical work.
- Enable Dark theme if your main apps render it well.
- Set refresh rate to Adaptive. Test a lower mode only if you need more endurance or notice heat.
- Use the phone normally for a full day before changing app restrictions. Record when the battery falls quickly and what you were doing.
- Open Battery usage and investigate apps with unusual background consumption.
- Test charging with the official regional charger and cable once vivo confirms the Ultra’s supported standard and wattage.
- Only then decide whether the shipping battery-health feature or a lower refresh mode fits your routine.
Choose settings by situation

How to diagnose unexpected drain or heat
The phone loses charge while idle
- Check Battery usage for an app with background activity disproportionate to your use.
- Confirm Screen timeout is not set unusually long and that an always-on display option is not keeping pixels active.
- Look at mobile-signal strength. Repeated searching in a weak-signal area can consume more power than a display setting.
- Install pending system and app updates, then observe another normal cycle before making several changes at once.
The phone becomes hot during scrolling or games
- Switch from 144Hz to Adaptive or a lower mode and reduce brightness.
- Stop demanding games, camera recording or navigation temporarily and let the device cool.
- Avoid charging under bedding, in direct sun or inside a hot car.
- If heat persists during light use after updates and a restart, use vivo support rather than assuming the rumored large battery is defective.
Notifications arrive late after battery optimization
Undo the restriction for the affected messaging, mail, alarm or navigation app. Battery-saving controls can defer background work; a small endurance gain is not worthwhile if it breaks a function you depend on.
What not to assume before launch
- Do not treat the reported 6.85-inch 2K/144Hz BOE LTPO panel as a final specification.
- Do not convert the reported battery capacity of around 7,000mAh or above into a promised screen-on-time figure.
- Do not use the official X500’s 7,500mAh, 90W wired or 40W wireless figures as proof of X500 Ultra compatibility.
- Do not buy an X500 case, screen protector or charger for the Ultra before dimensions, charging standards and regional stock are confirmed.
- Do not select a permanent charging percentage limit until the shipping phone exposes and documents that control.
The best launch configuration is therefore conservative: let the system manage brightness and refresh rate, reduce idle screen time, use comfort modes when they help, and make app or charging restrictions only after observing your own usage on final software.
