Skyvern is the closest full-agent alternative to TinyFish when a task must interpret and complete a changing, authenticated, multi-step website workflow. Choose Stagehand when your engineers want to own the workflow code and add AI only where needed. Choose Playwright for known, testable paths; Browserbase or Steel when browser infrastructure is the main problem; and Firecrawl when the deliverable is extracted web data rather than a completed transaction.
There is no universal reliability winner. The right choice depends on whether you need goal planning, deterministic selectors, adaptive recovery, managed browser sessions, or extraction pipelines.
What TinyFish provides, and what an alternative must replace
TinyFish positions its Browser product as a managed cloud browser that you drive with Playwright, Puppeteer, or raw Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP). Sessions use native Chromium and include proxy routing and anti-bot handling. That makes TinyFish primarily a browser-runtime and connectivity layer; your application still needs to decide what the browser should do, how to verify success, and when to escalate an exception.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTinyFish lists a price of $0.002 per browser minute, reports that 85% of sessions reached the page without being blocked, and reports less than 250 ms to a live Chromium session from cold. TinyFish identifies these as internal testing figures in 2026, not independent benchmarks. They should be treated as vendor-reported claims rather than a guarantee for your sites, accounts, geography, or traffic pattern.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
An alternative can replace one or more layers:
- Goal execution: an agent interprets a natural-language objective and plans several browser actions.
- Browser control: an SDK or framework supplies locators, clicks, typing, navigation, assertions, contexts, and traces.
- Infrastructure: a service runs isolated browsers, stores profiles, handles proxies, and exposes debugging telemetry.
- Extraction: a crawler or browser turns pages into structured data for a pipeline instead of completing a transaction.
Decide which layer is failing before switching products. Replacing a browser fleet with another fleet will not repair ambiguous business instructions, and replacing an agent with a deterministic framework will not make a frequently changing portal self-heal.
Comparison at a glance
| Option | Plans and executes a goal | Control and verification | Adaptation to changing pages | Infrastructure model | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skyvern | Yes; multi-step AI workflows | Deterministic Playwright actions plus page-state checks | AI fallbacks and visual workflows | Hosted or self-hosted | Changing, authenticated portals |

Pricing, usage limits, browser-engine availability, security terms, and partner-program details change frequently. The product descriptions used for this comparison do not establish directly comparable prices for the alternatives, so procurement should verify current terms with each vendor.
Skyvern: the closest full-agent replacement
Skyvern is the strongest choice when the requirement is “complete this business task on a site whose layout or route may change.” Its documented platform combines natural-language actions, structured extraction, page-state validation, deterministic Playwright actions, AI fallbacks, visual workflows, APIs, Python and TypeScript SDKs, run history, and hosted or self-hosted deployment.
How its execution loop works
- Skyvern captures the current page.
- It reduces the DOM to interactive elements and supplies visual and element information to a language model.
- The model selects the next action based on the goal and available page state.
- The action executes through Playwright in Chromium.
- The system checks whether the intended goal is complete before continuing or stopping.
This loop is useful for invoice downloads, compliance portals, form submissions, and authenticated workflows where a fixed selector script would break whenever a button moves or a new intermediate page appears.
Where Skyvern is a good fit
- A portal has several valid paths to the same outcome.
- Labels, fields, or navigation locations vary between accounts.
- The workflow needs visual interpretation as well as structured field extraction.
- Operations staff need run history and a product-level workflow rather than a test suite.
Trade-offs
AI decisions add latency and are less predictable than known selectors. Keep stable portions deterministic—for example, a fixed login sequence or a known download control—and reserve AI steps for ambiguous or changing states. Self-hosting gives you more control over data and deployment, but it also adds infrastructure, security, upgrades, and licensing responsibilities.

Stagehand: code-owned hybrid automation
Stagehand is an MIT-licensed SDK for browser agents in TypeScript, Python, and Go. Its core primitives are act for natural-language actions, extract for typed data, and observe for discovering possible actions. You can use those primitives in the same workflow as ordinary page and locator methods.
Why engineering teams choose it
Stagehand lets an application keep ownership of process logic, approvals, retries, and deployment while inserting AI at selected points. A stable checkout can remain explicit code, while a changing supplier portal step can use an AI action. Schema-validated extraction keeps returned data aligned with an application contract instead of accepting free-form model prose.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The comparison describes self-healing actions, caching, metrics, observability hooks, and a first-party Browserbase integration. Those capabilities are useful when you need to see which action was attempted, reuse known results where safe, and measure model-assisted steps separately from deterministic ones.
What Stagehand does not provide by itself
Stagehand is an SDK, not a complete business-operations layer. Your team must define the workflow state machine, decide when a human approval is required, implement retry and escalation rules, manage credentials, and operate the runtime. It is therefore a better TinyFish alternative for software teams that want a programmable component than for an operations group seeking a ready-made workflow product.
Playwright: the deterministic production choice
Playwright is an Apache-2.0 browser automation and testing framework for Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit. It gives you locator-based interactions, isolated browser contexts, automatic waiting, retries, reports, and traces. It can drive known workflows, run regression suites in CI, capture screenshots, and generate PDFs without asking a model to infer the next step.

Choose Playwright when the path is known
- Selectors and page states are sufficiently stable to encode and review.
- Every important action needs an explicit assertion.
- You need repeatable tests across Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit.
- Failure should produce a trace and a deterministic reproduction for an engineer.
- High volume makes variable model latency or model spend undesirable.
The maintenance you accept
Playwright does not infer a business goal. Engineers must write and maintain locators, assertions, test data, browser binaries, and CI configuration. When a target site changes, the responsible team must update the script. That maintenance is often a benefit for regulated or high-risk workflows because the intended behavior is visible in code and can be reviewed before deployment.
Browserbase: managed browser infrastructure beneath your logic
Browserbase supplies managed remote browser sessions that can run Stagehand, Playwright, or another agent. It addresses the operational problem of provisioning, isolating, monitoring, and debugging browser fleets; it does not decide what a task means or repair an incorrect locator.
Capabilities that matter in production
- Persistent contexts: retain cookies and authentication state where the workflow requires it.
- Live debugging: inspect a running session when an automation stalls.
- Recordings and telemetry: review browser behavior with recordings, console logs, network logs, and metrics.
- Network controls: use proxies and browser-identity controls appropriate to the target site.
Browserbase is a sensible choice when your team already knows how a browser should be controlled but does not want to run a browser cluster. You still own task logic, assertions, approvals, escalation paths, and decisions about what data may be sent to a managed service.
Steel: managed or self-hosted browser sessions
Steel is described as an open-source browser API with a managed cloud service. It offers isolated Chrome sessions and connections from Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium, or Steel SDKs. Persistent profiles, proxy controls, and session viewing support workflows that need repeatable browser identity and operational visibility.
The meaningful choice is deployment. Managed Steel reduces the work of running browser infrastructure. Self-hosting increases control over networking and data location but transfers capacity planning, patching, monitoring, incident response, and browser security to your team. Steel supplies the session layer; your chosen automation code or agent remains responsible for the objective and for proving that it was achieved.

Firecrawl: use it when extraction is the real job
Firecrawl is an extraction-first platform for crawling, structured extraction, knowledge bases, monitoring, and data pipelines. It can interact with pages, but its natural output is web content or structured data rather than a completed authenticated transaction.
Choose Firecrawl for tasks such as collecting product information, building a searchable knowledge base, monitoring changes across a set of pages, or feeding documents into a downstream data pipeline. Do not present it as a direct substitute for a goal-driven agent that must log into a portal, make a consequential change, submit a form, and verify the resulting business state.
How to choose by workload
| Your primary requirement | Best starting point | Why | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| One product should interpret and complete changing, authenticated workflows | Skyvern | Combines goal-oriented AI, deterministic browser actions, extraction, and completion checks | AI latency, model variability, and self-hosting effort |
| Engineers own the workflow and need AI only for selected steps | Stagehand | Mixes typed code with act, extract, and observe |
You must build approvals, retries, and operations around the SDK |
| Stable, high-volume, testable automation | Playwright | Explicit locators, assertions, contexts, reports, and traces | Locator maintenance when the site changes |
| Browser sessions, profiles, proxies, and telemetry are the bottleneck | Browserbase or Steel | They remove much of the browser-fleet operations burden | Neither product supplies your business logic or fixes ambiguous instructions |
| Extracted content or structured web data is the deliverable | Firecrawl | Designed for crawling and data pipelines | It is not a full transactional agent for authenticated workflows |
Build a reliable architecture instead of putting every step under AI
The most dependable pattern is hybrid. Represent the workflow as explicit states, use deterministic actions wherever the page and expected result are known, and invoke an AI action only when the state is ambiguous or likely to vary.
Keep these parts deterministic
- Authentication policy, account selection, and permission checks.
- Known navigation routes and selectors that have stable semantics.
- Amounts, recipients, dates, and other high-impact fields.
- Assertions that prove a download, submission, or update actually succeeded.
- Retry limits and the conditions that stop automation.
Use AI for bounded uncertainty
- Finding a renamed field or equivalent navigation control.
- Interpreting a page that presents several valid layouts.
- Mapping irregular page text into a predefined extraction schema.
- Choosing among documented next steps after a portal presents an unexpected but understandable state.
Give each AI action a narrow objective and a machine-checkable result. “Find the invoice number and return it as a string” is safer than “handle the invoice.” After the action, validate the returned value and the page state before allowing the workflow to continue.
How to measure reliability on your own sites
No independent head-to-head test establishes a universal ranking among these products. Reliability is workload-specific, so evaluate the exact sites, account states, regions, authentication methods, and exception paths that matter to you.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Track more than completion rate
| Metric | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Completion rate | How often the intended business outcome is reached without manual repair |
| Intervention rate | How often an operator must take over, approve, or restart a run |
| Latency | Time from job start to verified outcome, including model and browser startup time |
| Cost per successful outcome | Browser, model, infrastructure, and human-review cost divided by completed jobs |
| Evidence quality | Whether traces, screenshots, URLs, logs, and structured outputs prove what happened |
| Recovery behavior | Whether a transient failure retries safely or repeats a consequential action |
Run the same scenarios against fresh sessions and previously authenticated sessions. Include normal pages, changed layouts, expired sessions, validation errors, blocked requests, slow responses, and partial completion. A product that wins a clean-page demo may be a poor choice if it cannot produce useful evidence or stop safely after an ambiguous result.
Security controls for AI browser automation
Browser automation visits untrusted pages while holding browser state and, in some workflows, credentials. Treat every page as potentially hostile to the agent and every browser profile as sensitive.
- Isolate sessions: use separate browser contexts or profiles for tenants, environments, and risk levels.
- Use least-privilege accounts: limit permissions and avoid reusing an administrator credential for routine browsing.
- Restrict network access: allow only the domains and services the workflow needs where your deployment model permits it.
- Protect secrets: keep credentials outside prompts and logs, and ensure recordings cannot expose passwords or tokens.
- Require approval for consequential actions: payments, account changes, legal submissions, deletion, and external messages should pause for a human or a separately enforced policy check.
- Record evidence: retain appropriate traces, screenshots, URLs, and structured outputs so an auditor can distinguish a successful submission from a merely clicked button.
- Define retention: set deletion periods for recordings, cookies, downloaded files, and extracted personal data.
A practical migration plan from TinyFish
- Inventory the current workflow. List every browser action, credential, domain, output, assertion, retry, and human escalation. Separate browser-session needs from goal-planning needs.
- Classify each step. Mark stable steps as deterministic, changing steps as candidates for AI assistance, and high-impact steps as approval-gated.
- Select the replacement layer. Pick Skyvern for a complete adaptive workflow, Stagehand for code-owned hybrid control, Playwright for a known path, Browserbase or Steel for session infrastructure, or Firecrawl for extraction.
- Recreate authentication safely. Use isolated contexts and least-privilege accounts. Do not migrate production cookies or secrets into a test environment without an explicit security review.
- Define completion assertions. Verify the resulting page state, returned identifiers, downloaded files, or server-side status instead of treating a click as success.
- Instrument the pilot. Capture completion, intervention, latency, cost, and evidence metrics for representative scenarios, including failures.
- Set escalation rules. Stop after bounded retries, ambiguous page states, unexpected recipients or amounts, or any action outside the approved scope.
- Roll out gradually. Start with low-risk accounts or read-only tasks, compare outcomes with the existing TinyFish flow, and expand only after the failure modes are understood.
Costs, latency, and procurement questions
TinyFish’s published figures are useful as a baseline but not as a cross-product benchmark: $0.002 per browser minute, 85% page-reach success without blocking, and under 250 ms to a cold live Chromium session are vendor-reported internal measurements from 2026. Your effective cost also includes model calls, retries, storage, proxy usage, human intervention, and the engineering time required to maintain workflows.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Managed services generally reduce operations work but create vendor, data-processing, and availability dependencies. Self-hosted components can improve control and data locality while adding browser patching, scaling, observability, and incident-response duties. AI-driven steps usually add variable latency and model spend; deterministic steps are easier to forecast. Measure cost per verified business outcome rather than cost per browser minute alone.
Final recommendation
Start with Skyvern if your main problem is completing changing, multi-step authenticated workflows and you want an agent-oriented product. Choose Stagehand if your engineering team wants to keep the workflow in application code and introduce AI selectively. Choose Playwright when explicit control, repeatability, and test evidence matter more than adaptation. Choose Browserbase or Steel when the missing capability is reliable browser infrastructure, not task reasoning. Choose Firecrawl when you need extracted web data rather than a browser transaction.
Whichever option you select, keep high-impact operations deterministic or approval-gated, measure the exact workloads you run, and preserve evidence of every outcome.
