For a free, ready-made starting point, try StreamElements’ Anime Theme Package. It includes animated scenes, alerts, themed chat, and event labels, making it relevant to VTuber channels. It is a documented option, not a proven universal winner: available information describes the package but does not independently compare overlay quality or performance.
What makes an overlay work for a VTuber?
An overlay is the visual layer placed over a broadcast: it can include alerts, labels, goals, and chat. StreamElements Docs describes overlays as being composed in its editor and rendered in broadcast software through a browser source (StreamElements Overlays documentation).
For a VTuber layout, the overlay should support the avatar and channel identity without competing with the game or making on-screen information hard to read. Separate the theme—the colors, frames, and scene design—from widgets, which show live information such as alerts or chat. A package can include both, but you do not need to display every widget it offers.
- Visual fit: Check that the palette complements the avatar and that the layout leaves clear space for gameplay and text.
- Ready-made or custom: A prebuilt package can reduce setup work. StreamElements also offers a no-code editor for overlays, alerts, and widgets, plus the option to code custom widgets.
- Useful widgets: Choose only the alerts, recent-event labels, goals, or chat that serve your stream.
- Platform fit: Confirm the package supports your streaming platform and that its setup works with your broadcast software.
- Motion and performance: Animated elements can add movement, while static elements may better suit a restrained layout. Match source dimensions and frame rate to your stream and computer.

The listing names Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Trovo as supported platforms (StreamElements Elements Gallery). That breadth and its anime styling make it a sensible package to inspect for a VTuber channel. The listing is vendor-authored; it does not establish that the design suits every avatar or that it outperforms alternatives.
The Elements Gallery also organizes themes, alerts, widgets, scenes, and labels, and displays community or partner contributions, including packages attributed to kudos.tv and Own3d. It links to Fiverr for custom design. These are places to investigate, not endorsements or confirmation of affiliate availability.

Set up a StreamElements overlay in OBS
- Choose or create an overlay: Use the Elements Gallery or the StreamElements editor to select a package or build a layout. Add only the scenes and widgets you intend to use.
- Copy the overlay URL: Copy it from the dashboard or editor. Treat it as sensitive: StreamElements’ setup material says the URL contains a token, so do not publish it or expose it in screenshots.
- Add a Browser source in OBS: Create a Browser source for the scene and paste the overlay URL into its URL field.
- Set the source dimensions: The StreamElements guide specifies width 1920 and height 1080 unless the source resolution has been changed. Use dimensions that match your actual overlay and stream rather than assuming 1080p is always correct.
- Choose the source frame rate: The guide suggests 30 or 60 FPS according to your stream settings and computer capability. Use the setting your setup can handle; the guide does not claim one is best for every system.
- Leave Custom CSS at its default for this setup: The guide says to leave it unchanged. Move or resize the overlay in the editor or OBS preview as needed.
- Check the finished scene: Preview the game, avatar, chat, and alerts together. Confirm that important game information remains visible and that text can be read at the size viewers will see.
StreamElements’ guide also describes static and animated assets and says multiple overlays can be used in OBS. Add another only if it serves a distinct scene or purpose.
Make chat readable without crowding the avatar
For a Twitch chat overlay, StreamElements’ guide recommends creating the overlay at the intended resolution (it recommends 1080p), adding the stream chat widget, and tuning its size, theme, font, color, text size, and text shadow (Adding a Twitch Chat Overlay to your Stream, March 27, 2025).

The guide documents support for Twitch emotes, including animated emotes, and BTTV, FFZ, and 7TV emotes; unlisted 7TV emotes are not supported. This is documented support for that StreamElements widget, not a guarantee about every overlay tool. In a VTuber scene, keep chat and alerts legible while preserving room for the avatar and game.

If the ready-made anime package does not fit your avatar or channel, compare alternatives by how much design work they require and what they include. The Elements Gallery provides categories for themes, alerts, widgets, scenes, and labels; its displayed partner and community packages are options to inspect. For a design built around a specific avatar or layout, the gallery’s Fiverr link offers a route to investigate custom design. Check each option’s current contents, usage terms, platform compatibility, and price before committing; the available listings do not establish comparative quality.
