For most lifters, Hevy is the best all-round Strava alternative: it combines fast set-and-rep entry, reusable routines, social accountability and broad phone, watch and web support. Choose Fitbod when you want an algorithm to generate and adapt every session; JEFIT when you want a structured multi-week plan with deeper progression analysis; Strong when you want a distraction-free digital notebook; and Boostcamp when you prefer choosing from established strength programs.

Strava itself is now a legitimate option for basic strength logging. A May 21, 2026 report from T3 says its global update added native set, rep and weight logging, automatic muscle maps, five strength-specific share cards and 14 partner integrations. The right replacement therefore depends less on whether an app can record a lift and more on how much planning, coaching, analysis and accountability you need.

What changed in Strava for strength training

Strava’s 2026 Workout Log moved it beyond its traditional cardio focus. T3 reported that the rollout was global and available to all users, with tools for recording sets, repetitions and weight, plus automatic muscle maps and five share-card designs aimed at strength workouts. The update also added 14 named partner integrations, including Amazfit, Garmin, Coros, WHOOP, Runna, Fitbod, Hevy, JEFIT, Caliber, iFIT Personal Trainer, Liftoff, Motra, REMAKER and 24 Hour Fitness.

Strava said its community uploaded more than 500 million strength activities in 2025. Executive Matt Salazar described strength as one of the platform’s fastest-growing sport types and said members wanted tools that matched how they train. That makes Strava suitable for someone who wants one activity feed for running, cycling and lifting, but dedicated gym apps still differ substantially in workout construction, progressive overload and exercise-level analysis.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

How to choose a strength-training app

Compare the apps on seven practical questions rather than on star ratings alone.

  1. How quickly can you log a working set? In a busy gym, a two-tap entry and automatic recall of your previous load can matter more than a large exercise database.
  2. Who creates the workout? Some apps let you build routines manually, some generate sessions from your history and available equipment, and others provide a library of complete programs.
  3. How does progression work? Look for previous-performance recall, planned load or rep increases, volume tracking, periodization and ways to review trends.
  4. What accountability do you want? Leaderboards, feeds and share cards can help you train consistently, while a private notebook may be preferable if social features distract you.
  5. Which devices are covered? Check support for your phone, smartwatch, browser and health-data platform before moving your history.
  6. Can it exchange data with Strava or health services? Integrations are useful when you want one record of training, but the depth of an import or export can differ from simple activity sharing.
  7. What does the free tier actually include? A free download may limit routines, analytics, history or generated workouts. Subscription prices and allowances can change, so verify them in your store before paying.

Comparison of the leading alternatives

App Best fit Planning model Logging and analysis Price and platform evidence
Hevy Fast logging, repeatable routines and social accountability Manual routines, with Hevy Trainer options Two-tap logging, previous values, rest timer, RPE, supersets, progress data and leaderboards Free tier; Pro listed at $2.99/month, $23.99/year or $74.99 lifetime in the reviewed comparison. iOS, Android, Apple Watch, Wear OS and web. Strava, Apple Health and Health Connect integrations.
Fitbod Automated, adaptive coaching Sessions generated from equipment, experience, recovery and training history Pre-calculated weights and reps, exercise guidance, adaptive volume and exercise selection Subscription-only; the reviewed comparison listed $15.99/month or $95.99/year. iOS, Android, Apple Watch and Wear OS.
JEFIT Structured progression and analytics Adaptive 12-week plan and periodization features described in JEFIT’s 2026 editorial hub Load progression, detailed progress analysis and adaptive mesocycle planning The cited JEFIT material describes these capabilities but does not publish one consolidated current price table.
Strong A minimalist digital gym diary User-built routines with little automated coaching Custom sets, exercise library, graphs, body-part tracking, warm-up sets and drop/failure sets Android Central listed $5/month or $30/year for expanded templates and analytics. Confirm current store pricing.
Boostcamp Following a ready-made strength program Curated program library Program browsing plus workout tracking Free tier; Pro listed at $59.99/year or $14.99/month. iPhone, iPad and Android.

Hevy: the balanced choice for most lifters

Hevy is the strongest default pick when your priority is recording workouts quickly and repeating them consistently. Its two-tap logging flow, previous-value display and built-in rest timer reduce the amount of typing between sets. RPE entry, supersets and progress data add useful detail without forcing a fully automated coaching system.

Why Hevy works well as a Strava replacement

  • Reusable routines: Build the sessions you actually perform, then open the routine again rather than recreating every exercise.
  • Immediate context: Previous loads and repetitions help you decide what to attempt on the next set.
  • Training accessories: Rest timing, RPE and superset support cover common gym workflows.
  • Accountability: Leaderboards and social activity make progress visible to friends who prefer a community feed.
  • Device breadth: The cited comparison lists iOS, Android, Apple Watch, Wear OS and web support, plus Strava, Apple Health and Health Connect integrations.

Hevy Trainer options may help users who want more direction, but the app’s central strength is still a fast, user-controlled log. That makes it a good fit for an established routine, a coach-provided plan or a lifter who wants to experiment while retaining a clean history.

Who should not choose Hevy first

If you want an app to decide your complete session from recovery and equipment every time, Fitbod is a closer match. If you want a named, multi-week program selected from a library, Boostcamp removes more of the planning work. Hevy’s free tier and Pro limits should also be checked against the number of routines and analytics you expect to use.

Fitbod: generated sessions that adapt over time

Fitbod is designed for people who do not want to write their own workout plan. Its system generates sessions using your available equipment, experience, recovery and prior training history. It also supplies pre-calculated weights and repetitions, exercise guidance, adaptive volume and changing exercise selection.

How Fitbod differs from a routine tracker

A routine tracker asks you to decide the exercises and order, then helps you execute and record them. Fitbod reverses that emphasis: you provide information about your context and history, and the app proposes the session. This is useful when you train in different gyms, have limited equipment on some days or are unsure how to distribute work across muscle groups.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The trade-off is cost and control. The reviewed comparison describes Fitbod as subscription-only, listing $15.99 per month or $95.99 per year, and identifies iOS, Android, Apple Watch and Wear OS support. Those figures and included features can change by region or promotion. Test whether its generated choices match your preferred exercises, schedule and progression style before committing annually.

Best use case

Choose Fitbod when the question you ask before each workout is “What should I train today?” rather than “How can I log this routine faster?” It is less compelling if you already follow a detailed coach-written program and need exact adherence to prescribed sets.

JEFIT: structured progression and detailed analysis

JEFIT targets lifters who want more planning structure than a simple diary. Its 2026 editorial material describes an adaptive 12-week plan, periodization features, load progression, deeper progress analysis and adaptive mesocycle planning.

Why periodization matters

A periodized plan organizes training into phases instead of treating every workout as an isolated event. A 12-week structure can give you a defined block in which volume, intensity or exercise emphasis changes. Adaptive planning is intended to adjust that structure as your recorded performance changes, rather than leaving you with a static spreadsheet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to verify before subscribing

The available JEFIT material does not provide one consolidated current price table. Confirm the exact free features, subscription level, supported devices and whether the plan can be edited around your equipment and schedule. JEFIT is the better candidate when analytics and a longer training arc matter more than the fastest possible entry screen.

Strong: a focused digital gym notebook

Strong is for lifters who want to replace paper without turning training into a social network or an automated coaching service. You create your own routines, select exercises from its library and record custom sets. Graphs and body-part tracking help you review progress, while warm-up and drop/failure set options cover common variations.

This simplicity is its main advantage. There are fewer planning decisions made for you, so Strong fits a stable program, a personal spreadsheet translated into an app or a lifter who prefers to make adjustments independently. Android Central listed $5 per month or $30 per year for expanded templates and analytics; treat that as a dated comparison figure and check the current in-app offer.

When Strong is the right compromise

Pick Strong if a generated plan would feel intrusive but a paper notebook is too limited. It gives you a searchable exercise history and visual trends while leaving exercise selection, progression and scheduling in your hands.

Boostcamp: choose a program, then follow it

Boostcamp is organized around a curated library of strength programs. Instead of starting with an empty routine or asking an algorithm to invent a session, you browse available programs and track the workouts they specify.

Why a program library helps

Many beginners know they want to get stronger but do not know how to arrange exercises, sets, deloads or weekly frequency. A named program supplies that structure. It can also make adherence easier because the next workout is already defined. The app’s tracking layer records your completion and performance as you move through the selected plan.

The cited comparison lists a free tier and Pro at $59.99 per year or $14.99 per month, with iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Check whether the specific program you want is available in the free catalog and whether Pro is required for its complete progression features.

Limitations to consider

A curated plan is not the same as individualized coaching. You may need to substitute exercises for equipment, injuries or preferences, and the quality of the match depends on selecting a program suited to your experience and schedule. Boostcamp is strongest when you want a starting blueprint, not when you want every session recalculated from recovery data.

  1. Define your training model. Decide whether you will write your own routine, follow a fixed program or let an algorithm generate sessions. This single choice narrows the field more effectively than comparing icon designs.
  2. List your equipment and constraints. Record the machines, free weights and accessories you can reliably use, plus days per week, session length and any movements you must avoid. Generated-plan apps need this information to produce useful choices.
  3. Install the free tier and create one complete workout. Add every exercise, warm-up, working and failure or drop set you normally use. Check whether entering a set is fast enough while you are actually training, not while sitting at home.
  4. Test history and progression views. Open an exercise you perform regularly and confirm that previous weight and repetitions, graphs or load trends are visible where you expect them.
  5. Test your watch and health connections. If you train with a wearable or maintain a central health record, connect the supported service and verify that a sample workout appears correctly. A partner listing does not guarantee that every data field transfers.
  6. Run the app for one training block. Use it for at least several weeks or one complete program phase before buying a lifetime or annual option. Note skipped exercises, missing equipment substitutions, slow logging and analytics you never use.
  7. Export or preserve your history before switching. If the app offers an export, save it. Otherwise retain screenshots or a separate record of personal bests so a future change does not erase useful context.

Common mistakes and fixes

Choosing automation when you need adherence

An automatically generated session can be excellent in theory but frustrating if you must repeatedly replace exercises or cannot follow its weekly schedule. Start with a fixed program or manual routine when consistency is your main problem; move to adaptive generation after you have enough reliable history.

Choosing a social feed when privacy matters

Leaderboards and share cards can motivate some athletes and distract others. Review visibility settings before connecting contacts or publishing workouts. A minimalist log is often better for private rehabilitation, sensitive goals or anyone who already receives enough notifications.

Ignoring equipment substitutions

A plan built around equipment you do not have creates friction every session. Enter your real equipment during onboarding and check the substitute movement before beginning a workout. If substitutions are frequent, a manual routine or curated program with editable exercises may be more practical.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Comparing monthly prices without calculating the training block

Monthly billing is flexible, while annual or lifetime options can reduce the effective cost only if you keep using the app. Multiply the displayed monthly charge by the number of months you realistically expect to train with that service, then compare it with the annual price and the features you actually need.

Assuming an integration is a full migration

Strava, health platforms and partner services may exchange selected activity summaries rather than every set, repetition, note or progression metric. Keep the dedicated app as the detailed source of truth until you have verified what arrives in the destination service.

Free versus paid features

Hevy has a free tier and a Pro offering listed at $2.99 per month, $23.99 per year or $74.99 lifetime in the reviewed comparison. Boostcamp is also listed with a free tier and Pro at $59.99 per year or $14.99 per month. Fitbod is described as subscription-only at $15.99 per month or $95.99 per year in that comparison. Strong’s expanded templates and analytics were listed at $5 per month or $30 per year by Android Central. No single current price table is provided for JEFIT’s adaptive planning features.

These are not universal guarantees: app-store region, taxes, introductory pricing, billing channel and feature changes can alter them. Before purchase, open the subscription screen in your country and check exactly what is restricted. A free tier that records unlimited basic sets may be enough for a stable routine, while adaptive generation, advanced analytics, additional templates or expanded history may require payment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom-line decision

Use Hevy as the default recommendation for most people replacing Strava’s cardio-first experience with a dedicated lifting log. Its combination of rapid entry, routine support, social accountability and device coverage suits the widest range of gym users. Select Fitbod for automated, recovery-aware session creation; JEFIT for periodized planning and analysis; Strong for a quiet personal log; and Boostcamp for a curated program you can follow from workout to workout. Keep Strava in the mix if a unified endurance-and-strength feed is more valuable than specialized progression tools, because its 2026 Workout Log now covers the basic mechanics of lifting.
