2. Gyre — another cloud playlist-streaming category
YouTube’s official encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos on YouTube. That makes it relevant when your need is unattended prerecorded playout rather than operating a media server. 5. The Shed — self-hosted multistream studio with documented playlist mode
The Shed repository README documents scheduled video playback and a playlist-loop mode for an always-on channel. It also documents RTMP, SRT, and WHIP ingest and distribution to YouTube and other endpoints. Treat these as project-documented capabilities, not independently verified reliability. Review the project’s current setup and operating requirements before deployment.
6. StreamYard, OBS, or Restream — for different jobs
These tools may be useful, but they are not interchangeable with a managed unattended playlist service. What a self-hosted route requires
A VPS-based approach can avoid relying on a personal desktop, but it does not remove operations work: it moves that work to a server you manage. Before relying on it for a continuous channel, plan for the entire path from files to YouTube, not just the command that starts playback.
- Deployment: install and configure your chosen server software or playback process using its current documentation. Do not assume SRS includes a playlist scheduler or a particular YouTube workflow.
- Media and storage: account for the total playlist size and ensure files remain accessible to the playback process.
- Network capacity: check that the VPS has sufficient outbound bandwidth for the stream and that its provider permits the intended sustained traffic.
- Monitoring and recovery: detect a stopped process or disconnected stream, and define how it restarts and reconnects to YouTube.
- Maintenance: keep the host, software, and credentials managed; schedule time to respond when a process, server, or connection fails.
