For a dedicated hardware route, YouTube also lists the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone encoder; its directory says scheduled prerecorded media can be sent without a computer. It is optional hardware, not a requirement for going live.
How do I keep a Gurbani stream live 24/7 on YouTube?
YouTube supports streaming through a webcam, a mobile device, or encoder software or hardware. An encoder is useful when you want external audio/video equipment or a more involved production. - Enable live streaming. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for YouTube to enable the feature.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, go to Manage, and schedule a stream. Reuse earlier settings or create new ones.
- Choose the encoder route. Select streaming software when prompted. YouTube’s help page explains: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.”
- Copy the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the corresponding fields in your encoder or streaming service. Treat the stream key as a secret: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
- Start and verify the feed. Start the encoder or cloud service and check YouTube’s Live Control Room to confirm the incoming picture and sound before relying on unattended playback.
For Upstream’s manual RTMP method specifically, its guide instructs users to schedule the stream in YouTube Studio’s Manage tab, select streaming software, enable Auto-start, and paste YouTube’s RTMP stream key into Upstream. Upstream says these directions apply to the manual RTMP method; it describes a separate account-connection option, so check its current interface if you use that route.
What changes when the feed runs continuously?
A continuous encoder feed and a YouTube broadcast event are related but not identical. Google’s API documentation distinguishes a broadcast event from the stream carrying the audio/video feed, and gives the example of a 24/7 feed continuing while a separate interview broadcast ends. That distinction matters if you create or manage separate YouTube events around an ongoing feed.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its stated automatic-archive condition does not cover longer streams, so arrange a separate way to preserve recordings if you need an archive of a continuous broadcast.

Troubleshooting a 24/7 stream
- You cannot start a first broadcast: Live streaming may not yet be enabled for the channel. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- The encoder does not connect: Check that you copied the current server URL and stream key from the correct YouTube event, and that each is in the matching encoder field. If needed, replace the key in both YouTube and the encoder.
- The scheduled event exists but has no incoming picture or sound: Confirm the encoder or cloud service is actually running and sending its feed; creating a scheduled event alone does not supply audio or video.
- A continuous stream stops unexpectedly: Check the encoder or service’s connection and restart or recovery controls, then verify the incoming feed in Live Control Room. For a cloud service, consult its current guidance for interruptions.
- You cannot find a complete recording afterward: YouTube’s stated automatic archive applies to streams under 12 hours. Use a separate recording or preservation workflow for longer broadcasts.
