Choose a WordPress social plugin based on what you need it to do: add share buttons for visitors, or publish and schedule posts to your own social accounts. Social Snap and Novashare document visitor-facing sharing features; Jetpack Social focuses on connected-account publishing. The available evidence supports comparing these options, but not a tested ranking of 17 plugins.
First, decide what “social sharing” means for your site
A visitor-facing share plugin adds controls to your pages so readers can share a post through supported social or messaging services. An auto-publishing tool instead connects your site to your own social accounts and shares content when you publish. These are different workflows, and some products may offer both only through particular plans.
- Want readers to share pages? Compare button placement, supported networks, mobile controls, and whether share counts matter to you.
- Want WordPress to post to your accounts? Check account connections, scheduling, previews, plan requirements, and privacy documentation.
Social Snap: sharing buttons with multiple placements
Social Snap’s WordPress.org listing describes buttons for common networks, individual or total share counts, and placements in content, floating sidebars, and media. It also documents shortcode and template-tag placement, mobile-specific display controls, and Click to Tweet boxes. See the Social Snap WordPress.org listing for its current feature and compatibility details.
Pros
- Several documented placements and mobile display controls make it possible to tailor where buttons appear.
- Share counts are available, and the listing describes both individual and total counts.
- Shortcodes and template tags offer placement options beyond standard content locations.
Cons
- The listing assigns additional networks, share-count recovery, social share meta tags, social login, old-post promotion, and auto-posting to its Pro tier; confirm current plan boundaries before relying on them.
- Social Snap says it loads asynchronously and uses SVG icons. These are vendor-described implementation details, not independent evidence of faster pages or improved Core Web Vitals.
Novashare: a focused sharing plugin with documented implementation details
Novashare’s feature page describes share buttons and counts, support for multiple social and messaging networks, block-editor support, and inline SVG icons. It also says scripts load only where selected. These are vendor statements about implementation and performance positioning, not results from an independent comparison. Review the Novashare feature page for its current network, count, and plan information.
#1 Best Overall
Pros
- Documented support for the block editor and multiple social and messaging networks.
- The “load scripts only where selected” approach may appeal to site owners who want to limit where plugin scripts run.
- Share counts are among the listed features.
Cons
- Verify that the networks and count behavior you need are currently supported.
- Performance-oriented implementation details do not establish how the plugin will affect your own site; no independent comparative benchmark is available here.
- Check current plan terms and compatibility for your WordPress setup before choosing it.
Jetpack Social: publishing to your accounts, not just adding share buttons
Jetpack Social describes connecting social accounts, automatically sharing when you publish, scheduling posts, and reviewing previews. That makes it relevant when you want WordPress to send content to accounts you control; it is not the same core task as placing a button that lets visitors share a page. See Jetpack Social and its support documentation for current workflows and requirements.
Pros
- Account connections, automatic sharing on publication, scheduling, and previews address a publishing workflow.
- Jetpack says “Over 1 million posts are shared every day.” This is a vendor claim; the page does not state its measurement period or publication year.
Cons
- It is not a substitute for a visitor-facing share-button plugin when that is the feature you want.
- Account linking involves information used for cross-service sharing. Review Jetpack’s current privacy documentation before connecting accounts.
How to choose a plugin for your WordPress site
- Write down the exact task. Decide whether you need visitor share buttons, connected-account publishing, or both.
- Check placement and controls. For buttons, confirm inline or floating placement, any media placement, mobile-specific settings, and whether the plugin supports the editor or insertion method you use.
- Check your required networks. Confirm support for the social and messaging services your audience uses; do not infer current coverage from a general claim such as “multiple networks.”
- Decide whether counts matter. Verify which services provide counts and whether recovery of historical counts is included in the plan you are considering.
- Separate implementation details from performance results. Claims about asynchronous loading, selective script loading, SVGs, speed, or Core Web Vitals are not independent benchmarks. Test the candidate on your own site if performance is a deciding factor.
- Confirm cost, compatibility, and data handling. Check the current directory listing and official product documentation for plan limits, WordPress compatibility, account permissions, and privacy details before installation.
What a 17-plugin shortlist can—and cannot—tell you
WordPress.org’s social-share plugin directory and share-buttons directory can help you find additional candidates, including Sassy Social Share. A directory listing establishes that an option is listed; it does not establish that it is best, fastest, private, or compatible with your installation.
Rank #2
A credible “best 17” ranking would need current, comparable information for all 17 options, plus a clear evaluation method. The material available for this article does not establish that comparison or document hands-on testing. Treat any longer shortlist as a set of candidates to investigate, not a verified order of winners. Check each candidate’s current directory entry and official feature documentation, especially for network availability, paid features, and compatibility.

For visitor-facing buttons, compare Social Snap and Novashare against your desired placements, networks, and count requirements. For automatic publishing or scheduling to your own accounts, evaluate Jetpack Social instead.
