For smoother motion, choose Performance Priority Mode (1080p/60fps). For the higher listed resolution, choose Quality Priority Mode (1440p/30fps). You can switch modes in the Nintendo Switch 2 edition’s system menu. Neither option is universally best: the right choice depends on whether you value the higher resolution target or the higher frame-rate target.
Which mode should you use?

These are the targets Square Enix publishes for the Switch 2 edition, not independent measurements of performance in every scene. The preference guidance follows from the stated resolution and frame-rate tradeoff; it is not a claim that one mode looks or plays better for everyone.
How to change the setting
- Open DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2.
- Open the game’s system menu.
- Select either Performance Priority Mode for 1080p/60fps or Quality Priority Mode for 1440p/30fps.
Square Enix specifies that the modes are switched from the system menu. Its published information does not give different mode targets for TV, tabletop, and handheld play.
Check that you have the Switch 2 edition
This advice applies to DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s listing identifies it as a Switch 2 edition that cannot be played on the original Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s general guidance says many original Switch games can run on Switch 2, but that general compatibility statement does not override this game’s specific edition restriction.

Save data also cannot be transferred between the Switch and Switch 2 editions, according to Square Enix. Nintendo lists September 24, 2026 as the Switch 2 edition’s release date; Square Enix’s launch announcement gives the same date and describes the edition as retaining the game’s content while adding modes prioritizing image quality or frame rate.

Square Enix lists 1080p/60fps for Performance Priority Mode and 1440p/30fps for Quality Priority Mode. Those figures are the publisher’s specifications. The cited official information does not establish separate targets by play context or provide independent measurements, so treat them as the listed mode targets rather than a guarantee about every moment of play.
