GoFullPage is the best default for most Chromebook users who need a one-click capture of an ordinary, scrollable webpage. Choose FullPage Capture when built-in annotation, blur or pixelation, iframe and inner-scroller support, or PDF export matters. For bug reports and support cases, Screenshot with URL adds URL and timestamp context, recording, annotations, and network or console-log capture. If you do not want to install an extension, use Chrome DevTools; its Command Menu includes screenshot commands, although the exact full-size command can differ by Chrome version.
This guide separates those workflows, explains where each one fails, and gives Chromebook-specific steps for saving, editing, and troubleshooting long captures.
Which Chromebook screenshot tool should you use?
The right choice depends on whether you value speed, editing, diagnostics, or avoiding an extension. All four extension options below are designed for Chrome, while DevTools is built into the browser.

What “full-page” means on a Chromebook
A normal screenshot records only the pixels currently visible in the browser window. A full-page capture scrolls through the document, collects each viewport, and combines the pieces into one tall image or document. The result can include content that was below the fold without requiring you to zoom out or stitch screenshots by hand.

Extensions generally perform that scrolling automatically. They may need to wait while images, fonts, lazy-loaded sections, advertisements, or embedded frames render. A page that looks static to you can still be technically complex: an iframe has its own document, an inner scroller is a panel that scrolls independently of the page, and a virtualized app may replace off-screen content instead of keeping it in the document. Those differences explain why one tool can succeed where another produces gaps, repeated sections, or a capture that stops early.
On a Chromebook, the practical workflow is the same as on other Chromium browsers: install an extension from the Chrome Web Store, open the target page, start the capture, and export the result. Keep the tab open until scrolling and rendering finish. For sensitive pages, inspect the extension’s permissions and privacy statements before granting access.
GoFullPage: the simplest default
Why it is the first choice
GoFullPage is the strongest starting point when the target is an ordinary webpage and you want the fewest decisions. Its official listing identifies it as a full-page screen-capture extension, and its FAQ says Chromium browsers can use it. Its product site describes it as “The most reliable full page screenshot in just a single click.” That sentence is marketing copy from the publisher, not an independent reliability test.

How to capture a page
- Open the page you want to preserve in Chrome.
- Install GoFullPage from its Chrome Web Store listing, then pin its icon if you want it beside the address bar.
- Wait for the page to finish loading. Expand accordions, switch to the tab or state you need, and dismiss overlays before starting.
- Activate GoFullPage from the extension icon or its pinned toolbar button.
- Leave the tab in place while the extension scrolls and assembles the image. Do not navigate away or close the tab during capture.
- Use the result page’s available export control to save the completed capture, then open the file from the Chromebook’s Files app to verify that the bottom of the page and any important images are present.
Where GoFullPage can fail
Its FAQ specifically warns that protected PDF documents and some pages with custom JavaScript scrolling cannot be captured normally. A protected PDF is not the same as a regular HTML page displayed in Chrome; browser security and the document viewer can prevent an extension from reading or scrolling it in the expected way. A custom-scrolling page may respond to a script-controlled panel rather than the browser’s ordinary document scroll, so the extension can capture only the first viewport, repeat a section, or stop before the end.

When that happens, first try the page’s own print or export function if one exists. If the page is an application with an inner scroller, select a tool that explicitly lists inner-scroller support, such as FullPage Capture. For a developer or support record, Screenshot with URL may be more useful even if you still need to capture the page in sections.
FullPage Capture: editing, blur, and PDF output
What sets it apart
FullPage Capture is the better fit when the screenshot must be cleaned up before sharing. Its listing describes one-click scrolling capture for long pages, support for iframes and inner scrollers, annotation tools, blur and pixelation, and PNG, JPEG, and PDF export. Iframe support matters when a page embeds a separate document, while inner-scroller support is useful for dashboards, chat panes, and other panels that scroll inside a fixed page.
The listing also says files stay on the device and that the extension operates without an account, analytics, or network requests. Treat those as the publisher’s stated behavior. They are useful disclosures, but they are not an independent privacy audit; still review the permissions shown by Chrome before installing.
Capture and redact a long page
- Open the page and put every embedded frame or scrollable panel into the state you want to document.
- Start FullPage Capture from the extension button.
- Wait for the automatic scrolling pass to finish. Avoid moving the pointer over menus or changing the page while it runs.
- In the editor, crop irrelevant browser content, add arrows or text annotations, and use blur or pixelation over personal data, tokens, email addresses, or other secrets.
- Choose PNG or JPEG for an image, or PDF when the recipient needs a document-style file.
- Open the exported file from Files and inspect each page or the full-height image before sending it.
Use blur or pixelation deliberately: a small mask can miss a name or identifier that appears again lower on the page. If the same sensitive value appears in multiple places, search the entire capture visually before exporting.

Why context matters
A screenshot alone can show a symptom but not always its context. Screenshot with URL is designed for cases where a tester, developer, or support agent needs to show which page was open and when. Its listing combines full-page, visible-area, and selected-area capture with URL-bar and timestamp context, PDF/JPEG/PNG export, screen recording with audio, an editor, and network and console-log capture.

That combination makes it more than a long-page camera. A selected-area capture can isolate one broken widget; a visible-area capture can document a modal without the rest of the page; a full-page capture can preserve the complete article or settings screen. Network and console-log collection can add technical evidence when a page fails, while recording can demonstrate a sequence that a still image cannot show.
A reproducible bug-report workflow
- Open the page in a fresh tab and reproduce the problem once. Note whether it appears after a login, a resize, or a particular interaction.
- Start Screenshot with URL and choose full-page, visible-area, or selected-area mode according to the evidence needed.
- Keep the URL and timestamp context if another person must reproduce the issue. Remove or redact private query parameters before sharing.
- Annotate the exact control, error message, or missing section. Use the editor’s blur or masking function for account data.
- If the issue is dynamic, record the interaction with audio only when narration adds useful context.
- Collect network or console logs when the recipient is a technical team that can interpret them; logs can contain URLs, identifiers, or request data, so inspect them before export.
- Export to PNG, JPEG, or PDF and send the smallest set of files that proves the issue.
The listing states that screenshots stay on the device under its disclosed privacy policy. As with any extension, compare that statement with Chrome’s permission prompt and the policy that applies to the version you install.
Full Page Screenshot: flexible capture modes
Full Page Screenshot is useful when “full page” is only one of several formats you need. Its listing describes full-page, region, element, visible-area, and responsive captures, with PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output. Hotkeys can speed up repeated work, and the listing describes local-only processing.
Use full-page mode for a document, region mode for a bounded portion of a dashboard, and element mode when a single card or component is the real subject. Responsive capture is helpful when you need to show how a layout appears at different viewport sizes rather than documenting one Chromebook window. Because these capabilities and privacy statements come from the publisher’s listing, confirm the current controls and permissions after installation.
Chrome DevTools: capture without installing an extension
Open the screenshot commands
Chrome includes screenshot tools in DevTools. Google’s documentation directs you to open the DevTools Command Menu, type “screenshot,” and select Capture area screenshot for an area capture. DevTools is the sensible fallback when extension installation is blocked by a school or workplace policy, or when you prefer to keep the browser profile minimal.

- Open the page in Chrome.
- Open DevTools using Chrome’s developer-tools shortcut or the browser menu.
- Open the Command Menu inside DevTools.
- Type
screenshot. - Choose the screenshot command that matches your need, such as Capture area screenshot for a selected rectangle.
- For a full-size page, look for the full-size or full-page screenshot command available in your Chrome build. The exact command set can vary by version, so verify the label shown on the Chromebook rather than relying on an older tutorial.
- Save the generated file and check it in Files before closing DevTools.
DevTools requires more steps than a one-click extension and its controls are aimed at developers. Its advantage is that it is already part of Chrome and does not require a third-party extension to receive page access.

Prepare the page before capturing
Preparation prevents most “the screenshot is missing something” complaints.
- Set the final state first. Expand the section, open the menu, or apply the filter that must appear in the capture.
- Wait for lazy content. Scroll through the page once if images or cards load only when they approach the viewport.
- Close transient UI. Cookie banners, chat bubbles, browser translation bars, and sign-in prompts can cover content or be captured repeatedly.
- Check horizontal layout. A very wide table may be clipped in an image viewer even when the vertical capture is complete. Use a region or responsive mode when a narrow viewport is the point of the test.
- Protect secrets. Sign out when possible, remove private URL parameters, and plan where masking will be applied before sharing.
Troubleshoot incomplete or distorted captures
The capture stops at the first screen
Confirm that the page is a normal document and not a protected PDF viewer or a custom-scrolling application. GoFullPage documents both as failure cases. Try FullPage Capture for an inner scroller, or capture separate visible regions if the application cannot expose one continuous document.
Sections repeat or appear out of order
This usually indicates that the page changed while the extension was scrolling. Wait for animations and network activity to settle, disable a rotating carousel if the site allows it, and run the capture again without interacting with the tab. If the page virtualizes content, use several selected-area captures or the application’s own export instead of forcing one tall image.
Images or embedded frames are blank
Reload the page, allow all embedded content to finish loading, and retry. If the blank area is an iframe, use FullPage Capture, whose listing specifically includes iframe support. A protected or cross-origin document can still impose restrictions that an extension cannot bypass.

The file is too tall to use
Choose a region or element capture, split the page into logical sections, or export to PDF when a document format is easier to navigate. For a support ticket, a visible-area image with a clear annotation can be more useful than a single unreadably tall image.
Text is hard to read after export
Use the original page at its normal zoom, avoid unnecessary browser zoom changes, and choose PNG when sharp text is more important than a smaller file. For a long document that will be printed or searched, PDF may be more practical if the extension’s export remains legible.
The extension does not appear in the toolbar
Open Chrome’s Extensions menu and pin the installed extension. If installation is blocked, use DevTools. Managed Chromebooks can restrict extension installation or page access; in that case, only the administrator can change the policy.
Privacy and permissions on a Chromebook
Long-page extensions need access to the page they capture. Before installing, read the permissions Chrome displays and the publisher’s privacy disclosure. “Local processing,” “no analytics,” or “stays on the device” are useful publisher statements, but they do not replace your own review of permissions and the sensitivity of the page.
Do not capture passwords, recovery codes, payment details, private customer records, or session tokens unless the task explicitly requires it and your organization permits it. Redact visible secrets in the editor, remove private URL parameters, and inspect exported logs as well as the image. A screenshot can preserve more metadata and context than the pixels you intended to share.
Export format: PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF?
- PNG: Prefer it for crisp interface text, diagrams, and annotations.
- JPEG: Useful when a smaller photographic image is acceptable.
- WebP: Available in Full Page Screenshot and practical for web delivery when the recipient’s tools support it.
- PDF: Better for a document-style handoff or printing; check page breaks and readability before sending.
Keep the original export until the recipient confirms it opened correctly. If a very tall image is difficult to review, provide a cropped overview plus separate detail captures rather than repeatedly compressing the same file.
Bottom line
Start with GoFullPage for a straightforward webpage. Switch to FullPage Capture for editing, redaction, PDF export, iframes, or inner scrollers; use Screenshot with URL when a capture must carry diagnostic context; choose Full Page Screenshot for element and responsive variants; and use Chrome DevTools when an extension is not an option.
