If you want to race now, choose STAR WARS Episode I Racer for Star Wars podracing or Redout 2 for high-speed anti-gravity craft. They offer different kinds of sci-fi racing: one is rooted in the franchise, while the other focuses on original hoverships and racing skill. Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled for October 6, 2026, so its announced features are not yet a reviewed experience.

What to play for Star Wars podracing

STAR WARS Episode I Racer

STAR WARS Episode I Racer is the closest choice if what draws you to Galactic Racer is the franchise, podracers, and the fantasy of blasting around a course in a Star Wars vehicle. The Steam listing identifies LucasArts as developer and Lucasfilm/Disney as publisher, and describes a game based on the race sequence in The Phantom Menace. It lists more than 21 podracers, over 21 tracks, and eight worlds; those are counts in the store description, not an independent assessment.

It is a 1999 game, so approach it as a legacy title rather than a preview of the presentation or systems promised for a 2026 release. The Steam listing is a starting point for checking its availability in your region.

What to play for futuristic anti-gravity racing

Redout 2

Redout 2 is the stronger match if the appeal is futuristic craft, speed, and improving your racing technique rather than Star Wars lore. Its Steam listing describes customizable hoverships, a single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer, and a high skill ceiling. It released on June 16, 2022.

That makes it a useful alternative for players who want a science-fiction racer with campaign and multiplayer options, but it is not a podracing game and does not use the Star Wars setting.

What Galactic Racer has announced

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled to launch on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to StarWars.com. The official site describes the Galactic League as an unsanctioned racing circuit and names landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers. It also says races will take place on new and familiar Star Wars locations. See the official game site.

The story-trailer page calls it a high-stakes, runs-based racing adventure and lists Campaign, Scenario, and Arcade modes. These are announced features, not evidence of how the finished game plays or performs. The official pages do not establish multiplayer particulars, so do not assume a specific online offering from the mode list alone. StarWars.com story trailer

Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick described the aim as: “Our goal with Galactic Racer is to deliver a racing experience that’s cinematic, skill-driven, and unmistakably Star Wars, and this gameplay reveal is a major step toward that vision,” in the gameplay-trailer announcement. That is a statement of design intent, not a player-tested verdict.
