For most video meetings, start with the Razer Kiyo V2 Pro at 1920×1080 and 30 fps. Set the camera in Razer Synapse 4 before opening Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or OBS, then keep focus, exposure, and white balance consistent. Use 1080p60 for motion-heavy OBS scenes when lighting and USB bandwidth are adequate. Reserve 4K30 or 4K60 for OBS recording, cropping, or reframing when your USB connection, encoder, and computer can sustain the load.

Leave autofocus on if you move toward or away from the camera. Use manual focus only for a fixed seating position. Face or center exposure metering usually gives the most stable talking-head image; manual exposure is preferable when a bright window makes automatic exposure visibly pump. The Kiyo V2 Pro provides video but no microphone, so select a separate microphone or headset in every application.

What the Kiyo V2 Pro can actually do

Razer lists 4K video at up to 60 frames per second, AI auto-framing, HDR, universal monitor and tripod mounting, and compatibility with OBS, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. Synapse exposes controls for ISO, shutter speed, white balance, exposure, and gain. Razer’s manual also documents preview resolution, zoom, pan, automatic or manual focus, automatic or manual exposure, average/center/face metering, and saving settings for use by other applications (Razer, 2026).

Specification Published figure Why it affects your settings
Maximum video mode 4K at 60 fps Higher detail and cropping headroom, but greater USB, processing, and encoder demand.
Sensor 8.3MP Sony STARVIS 2 Provides the pixels needed for 4K capture; lighting still determines noise and skin-tone quality.
Field of view 86 degrees A wide starting view that can be narrowed with digital zoom for a head-and-shoulders composition.
Digital zoom 4× Useful for reframing, although aggressive zoom reduces effective detail.
ISO range ISO 100–6400 Higher ISO can brighten a dark room but generally increases visible noise.
Microphone No built-in microphone Audio must come from a separate USB microphone, headset, or interface.

The sensor, field-of-view, zoom, ISO, and microphone specifications come from Tom’s Guide’s 2026 specification table. The 4K60 capability and platform compatibility are listed by Razer for 2026. These are capabilities, not a promise that every application will expose every mode at every operating-system or client version.

Use this baseline before changing anything else

Use case Starting resolution and frame rate When to change it
Zoom or Teams meetings 1920×1080 at 30 fps Try a higher stable mode only when the client shows it and the call remains free of dropped frames or latency.
OBS talking-head scene 1920×1080 at 30 fps Move to 60 fps when motion is important and the room is well lit.
OBS recording with reframing 3840×2160 at 30 or 60 fps Use only when the USB path, encoder, and scene load remain stable.

These are practical starting recommendations derived from the camera’s supported modes, not universal vendor presets. A stable 1080p image with controlled lighting normally looks better in a meeting than a nominally sharper mode that causes dropped frames, latency, or exposure noise.

Configure Synapse 4 before opening OBS, Zoom, or Teams

Select the camera and establish a preview

  1. Connect the Kiyo V2 Pro and open Razer Synapse 4.
  2. Select the camera identified as Kiyo V2.
  3. Open the camera preview and choose the desired preview resolution and frame rate instead of leaving the mode to an automatic default.
  4. Position the camera at eye level, then set the crop, zoom, and pan before joining a call or adding an OBS source.

Changing the camera while another application is already previewing it can produce a device-busy error or leave the application using an older mode. Close the application that owns the preview, make the change in Synapse, and then reopen the application.

Save settings for other applications

Razer’s manual says camera settings can be saved and used by other applications. After setting resolution, focus, exposure, white balance, and framing, save the configuration in Synapse. Disable the Synapse camera preview before restarting the computer or unplugging the webcam; the manual identifies this as the way to retain saved settings across those actions.

Decide on frame rate before tuning exposure

Frame rate changes the amount of light available per frame and the motion character of the image. Tune exposure after selecting 30 or 60 fps. Do not judge a 60-fps image while the camera is still carrying exposure values chosen for 30 fps.

Best OBS settings

1080p30: the dependable talking-head setup

Use 1920×1080 at 30 fps for presentations, tutorials, interviews, and ordinary streaming scenes. It gives the encoder and USB connection more headroom than 4K while retaining enough detail for a typical webcam frame. Set the mode explicitly in the camera source rather than relying on an automatic choice.

  1. In OBS, add a Video Capture Device source.
  2. Select the Kiyo V2 Pro.
  3. Set the source resolution to 1920×1080 and the frame rate to 30 fps when those options are available.
  4. Apply the source, then watch the preview for dropped frames, focus hunting, or exposure changes while you move normally.
  5. Set the camera’s crop and position in the OBS scene after Synapse framing is stable.

Use this mode when your priority is a reliable stream or recording rather than the ability to crop deeply in post-production.

1080p60: smoother movement

Choose 1920×1080 at 60 fps when hand movement, demonstrations, gaming gestures, or frequent repositioning are central to the scene. The mode needs more data and generally benefits from brighter front lighting. If the room is dim, 60 fps can force the camera toward higher gain or ISO, making the image noisier than a well-lit 30-fps setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After switching to 60 fps, check the OBS statistics and the recorded file rather than relying only on the live preview. A stable 30-fps recording is preferable to a nominal 60-fps source that drops frames.

4K30 or 4K60: recording and reframing

Use 3840×2160 at 30 or 60 fps when you need crop and reframing headroom in an OBS recording. A 4K source lets you create a tighter virtual shot from the same camera position, but it increases USB traffic, processing demand, and encoder workload. Confirm all three before committing to it:

  • The webcam remains connected at the selected mode instead of falling back to a lower resolution.
  • OBS reports a stable capture with no recurring dropped frames.
  • Your encoder and scene collection can sustain the workload without excessive rendering or encoding delay.

4K is not automatically better for a live call. If you are sending a single head-and-shoulders image with no crop, 1080p30 usually spends fewer resources for a more predictable result.

OBS framing and camera controls

Start with a medium or slightly narrower crop so your head and shoulders occupy the useful part of the frame. The camera’s 86-degree field of view is wide enough to show a large amount of room; Synapse zoom and pan can remove distracting space before the image reaches OBS. Razer also advertises AI auto-framing, which can keep a moving subject centered, but check the crop for unwanted movement before using it in a formal presentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best Zoom settings

  1. Open Synapse 4 first, select Kiyo V2, and set the resolution, frame rate, focus, exposure, white balance, and framing.
  2. Save the camera settings and close the Synapse preview.
  3. Open Zoom and select Kiyo V2 Pro as the camera in the video settings or meeting preview.
  4. Begin at 1920×1080, or choose the highest stable mode exposed by the current Zoom client.
  5. Preview your face against the actual room background. If the image shows dropped frames, excess latency, or unstable exposure, return to 1080p30.

Razer confirms Zoom compatibility but does not publish one universal Zoom resolution preset. Zoom client versions and account settings can expose different choices, so use the highest mode that remains stable on your computer rather than assuming that 4K is available or desirable.

Make framing and color decisions in Synapse before joining. If Zoom offers fewer controls than Synapse, Synapse is the place to set focus, metering, white balance, zoom, and exposure. Keep the same settings for recurring meetings so the image does not change when you switch between meeting rooms.

Best Microsoft Teams settings

  1. With Teams closed, configure the Kiyo V2 in Synapse 4.
  2. Save the Synapse settings and disable its preview.
  3. Open Teams’ device settings or meeting preview and select Kiyo V2 Pro for video.
  4. Start at 1920×1080, or use the highest stable option shown by the current Teams client.
  5. Use the Teams preview to check framing and motion, then keep the exposure and white balance decisions made in Synapse.

Razer confirms Microsoft Teams compatibility but does not publish one universal Teams resolution preset. Teams may expose fewer camera controls than Synapse. If a control is missing in Teams, change it in Synapse while Teams is not using the camera, save it, and then return to Teams.

Focus, exposure, white balance, and gain

Autofocus versus manual focus

Leave autofocus enabled when your seating distance changes, when you stand to demonstrate something, or when more than one person may enter the frame. Autofocus is convenient for these situations. Disable it and set manual focus when the camera and subject remain at a fixed distance, such as a permanently mounted streaming desk. Manual focus prevents the lens from hunting when a hand, product, or background object crosses the frame.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose an exposure-metering strategy

Start with automatic exposure and face metering when a face is detected. Face metering prioritizes the subject instead of allowing a bright wall or window to dominate the average. If face metering is unavailable, center metering is a useful talking-head starting point. Average metering can work in an evenly lit room but is more easily influenced by bright backgrounds.

Switch to manual exposure when a window or monitor causes visible brightness pumping. Set exposure while seated in the position you will use, then recheck it if the room lighting changes. Synapse documents automatic and manual exposure and average, center, and face metering.

Set white balance once the lights are on

Turn on the room and front lights first, then choose a fixed white-balance temperature. A locked setting prevents skin tone from drifting as the camera reacts to a changing mixture of daylight and artificial light. If you move from daylight to a night-time setup, make a new white-balance adjustment rather than leaving one value to cover both conditions.

Use light before ISO

Add front light before raising ISO or gain. More light lets the camera maintain cleaner shadows and more natural skin texture. The independent specification lists an ISO range of 100–6400, but no single ISO value is correct for every room. Raise ISO only as needed after selecting the frame rate and arranging the light; excessive gain reveals noise that a 4K setting cannot remove.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Shutter speed and motion

Choose a shutter speed appropriate to the selected frame rate, then adjust gain or ISO to reach a usable brightness. The exact value depends on room illumination and how much motion you need to preserve. A faster shutter can make movement look sharper but may require more light; a slower shutter can brighten the image while introducing more motion blur.

1080p30, 1080p60, and 4K compared

Mode Strengths Costs and risks Best fit
1920×1080 at 30 fps Lowest resource demand of these choices, dependable meeting behavior, adequate detail for a single shot. Less motion smoothness and less crop room than higher modes. Zoom, Teams, presentations, interviews, and standard OBS talking-head scenes.
1920×1080 at 60 fps Smoother movement and demonstrations. More USB and processing demand; dim rooms may produce more gain noise. Motion-heavy OBS scenes with strong lighting.
3840×2160 at 30 fps Large crop and reframing reserve without requiring 60-fps capture. Higher USB and encoder load than 1080p; meeting clients may not expose it. OBS recording where post-production reframing matters.
3840×2160 at 60 fps Maximum listed detail and motion capture. Highest USB, processing, and encoder demand; stability must be verified. Well-equipped OBS recording workflows that genuinely need both 4K and 60 fps.

HDR, framing, and lighting decisions

When HDR helps

Try HDR when a bright window and a substantially darker room appear in the same shot. The reviewed specifications list HDR support at 30 fps. Check the result while moving: HDR can alter motion or frame-rate behavior, so keep it only if faces remain natural and the application stays stable.

Place the key light in front of you

A monitor light or webcam key light positioned in front of your face usually improves perceived quality more than switching from 1080p to 4K. Avoid placing the strongest source directly behind you. If a window must remain in the background, use face metering, reduce the background brightness where possible, or switch to manual exposure after arranging the room.

Use a crop that serves the application

For a meeting, a medium head-and-shoulders crop keeps facial expressions readable without making the wide lens feel distant. For an OBS recording, capture wider in 4K only when you intend to create a tighter crop later. Digital zoom can reposition the shot, but a heavy 4× crop has less effective detail than the original view.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Audio and USB connection checklist

Choose audio separately

The Kiyo V2 Pro has no built-in microphone. In Zoom and Teams, select a separate USB microphone, headset, or audio interface for the microphone and speaker devices. In OBS, select that same device in the audio mixer and verify that the level meter responds before recording or going live. Test echo cancellation and monitoring with the application you will actually use.

Protect the connection used by 4K

Use the supplied or a known-good USB 3 connection for 4K modes. If the camera disappears, falls back to a lower mode, or becomes unavailable after selecting 4K, test another USB port or cable. A powered USB hub can be a troubleshooting option when the existing port arrangement is overloaded, but it is not a requirement for every setup. Recheck the selected mode after moving the camera because operating systems can renegotiate a device at a lower capability.

Why settings reset or conflict when you switch apps

Another application owns the camera

Only one program may have control of a camera preview at a time in some configurations. Close OBS, Zoom, Teams, browser tabs, and camera utilities that could be using the device. Change the setting in Synapse, save it, disable the preview, and then reopen the target application.

Synapse preview was left active

Leaving the Synapse preview running while restarting or unplugging can prevent saved settings from being retained. Disable the preview first, then restart or disconnect the camera.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The application chooses its own mode

OBS can be told to use a specific resolution and frame rate through the Video Capture Device properties. Zoom and Teams may expose only the modes supported by their current clients. If an application opens at a lower mode, confirm what it actually offers instead of repeatedly forcing a setting that the client does not support.

USB bandwidth or encoder capacity is exceeded

A 4K mode that works in an empty scene may fail once other USB devices, filters, browser sources, or a demanding encoder are added. Return to 1080p30, then increase one variable at a time. If 1080p60 is stable but 4K is not, the limitation is likely in the USB path, processing load, or encoder budget rather than focus or white balance.

Three practical presets

Reliable work meeting

  • 1920×1080 at 30 fps.
  • Autofocus enabled.
  • Face metering, or center metering if face metering is unavailable.
  • Fixed white balance after the room lights are on.
  • Front light aimed at the face.
  • Separate headset or microphone selected in the meeting client.

Motion-heavy OBS scene

  • 1920×1080 at 60 fps.
  • Autofocus unless your seating distance is fixed.
  • Manual exposure if a window or monitor causes pumping.
  • Additional front light to keep ISO or gain moderate.
  • OBS statistics monitored for dropped frames and rendering or encoding delay.

Recorded tutorial with crop options

  • 3840×2160 at 30 or 60 fps, depending on whether crop or motion is the priority.
  • Manual focus for a fixed desk position.
  • Stable white balance and exposure before recording.
  • USB 3 connection verified at the selected mode.
  • Encoder and scene load tested for the complete recording setup.

Final setup checklist

  1. Open Synapse 4 and select Kiyo V2 before launching the target application.
  2. Choose 1080p30 as the meeting baseline, 1080p60 for well-lit motion, or 4K for verified OBS recording and reframing needs.
  3. Set focus according to whether your subject distance changes.
  4. Use face or center metering, then move to manual exposure if bright backgrounds cause pumping.
  5. Lock white balance after the room lighting is ready.
  6. Improve front lighting before increasing ISO or gain.
  7. Set zoom, pan, and any AI auto-framing while watching the actual composition.
  8. Save settings, disable the Synapse preview, and close any other camera-using application before switching programs.
  9. Select a separate microphone or headset in Zoom, Teams, and OBS.
  10. For 4K, verify the USB 3 path, application mode, and encoder stability before relying on the setup.
