Radeon Software cannot enable NVIDIA DLSS. DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Ray Reconstruction and DLSS Frame Generation are GeForce RTX features exposed through NVIDIA’s drivers and game integrations. On a Radeon card, use the game’s AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) options first, add FSR Frame Generation only after establishing a stable base frame rate, use FSR Ray Regeneration when the game offers it, and reserve Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) for games without native FSR. HYPR-RX can automate several of these choices, but every title still needs verification.
What to use on a Radeon GPU
The closest Radeon equivalents are not hidden DLSS switches. They are separate AMD technologies with different support requirements:
| Goal | Radeon feature | Best starting choice |
|---|---|---|
| Increase performance while retaining image detail | Native, game-integrated FSR Upscaling | Quality preset |
| Create intermediate frames | FSR Frame Generation or, in compatible profiles, AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 | Enable only after non-generated FPS is stable |
| Improve ray-traced image reconstruction | FSR Ray Regeneration | Enable only when the title exposes it and motion artifacts are acceptable |
| Upscale a game that has no FSR integration | Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) | Lower the game’s render resolution one step below native |
| Apply a one-click combination | HYPR-RX | Use as a baseline, then inspect each game’s actual toggles |
Do not enable RSR on top of in-game FSR. Both are upscalers; stacking them usually means the second stage receives an already reconstructed image, reducing clarity and increasing artifacts.

DLSS compatibility: why the setting is missing
DLSS is NVIDIA’s proprietary reconstruction and frame-generation stack. NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 documentation describes the transformer-model upgrade for DLSS Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction and DLAA on GeForce RTX, while Multi Frame Generation is specific to RTX 50-series hardware. Radeon Adrenalin therefore has no native “DLSS Ray Reconstruction” or “DLSS Super Resolution” control to find.

- WINDFORCE Cooling System
- Hawk Fan
- Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel
- RGB Lighting
A game may still display a DLSS entry when its menu is shared across vendors, but the option requires a supported GeForce RTX device and the game’s NVIDIA integration. Selecting a Radeon equivalent means choosing an AMD-labelled option in the same menu, not renaming a driver setting.
Recommended setup order
- Update the game and Radeon Software. FSR support and per-title profiles are delivered through game patches and current Adrenalin releases. Restart the game after changing driver-level features.
- Measure native, non-generated performance. Use an in-game benchmark or a repeatable scene. Record the ordinary rendered FPS, frame-time consistency and input response before enabling any frame-generation feature.
- Choose native FSR first. Select FSR Quality at your monitor’s native output resolution. Confirm that the game reports the intended output resolution and that sharpening is not excessive.
- Adjust one step at a time. Move to Balanced only if Quality cannot sustain the desired refresh rate. Use Performance for particularly heavy ray-tracing loads or high-resolution output when lower internal resolution is acceptable.
- Add frame generation last. Turn on FSR Frame Generation only after the non-generated frame rate is stable and controls still feel responsive. Enable Radeon Anti-Lag 2 where the title supports it.
- Test motion and difficult effects. Pan the camera across foliage, fences, particles, hair, reflections and HUD elements. Look for ghost trails, disocclusion errors, double images or UI instability before keeping the setting.
- Save a per-game profile. Upscaling, ray tracing and frame-generation choices that work at 1440p may be unsuitable at 4K or on a different display refresh rate.
Native FSR: the preferred upscaling path
AMD recommends in-game FSR when a title has built-in support because developers can apply game-specific motion vectors, reactive masks and tuning that a driver-level scaler cannot access. Native integration is therefore the default choice for image quality and artifact control.
FSR Quality
Start with Quality. It preserves the highest internal resolution among the common FSR presets and is the sensible first choice for 1080p, 1440p and 4K displays when the baseline frame rate is close to your target. Evaluate thin geometry and moving detail rather than judging only a static screenshot.
FSR Balanced
Choose Balanced when Quality leaves the GPU below the refresh rate you are targeting. Recheck distant foliage, specular highlights and animated particles; these areas reveal the additional reconstruction workload created by the lower internal resolution.
FSR Performance
Use Performance when the title is dominated by ray tracing or when a high output resolution makes Quality and Balanced too slow. At lower output resolutions, Performance can make fine text and geometry visibly soft, so use it only when the performance gain is more valuable than that loss.
Presets are starting points, not universal quality grades. The optimal choice changes with output resolution, ray-tracing settings, camera motion and the game’s FSR implementation.
Frame generation: when it helps and when it hurts
FSR 3.1 separates its frame-generation component from the upscaler. That allows a compatible game to use FSR upscaling, another upscaler, or a native-resolution base image while applying frame generation, depending on the developer’s implementation. The generated frames increase displayed smoothness; they do not replace the need for a fast, responsive stream of real frames.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSet a stable base first
Enable frame generation only when the non-generated frame rate is stable. A fluctuating 35–45 FPS base can produce a high counter reading after interpolation while controls still feel like 35–45 FPS and visual errors become more obvious. A consistent base with even frame times is preferable to a higher but erratic number.
Pair it with Anti-Lag 2
AMD recommends pairing supported FSR Frame Generation implementations with Radeon Anti-Lag 2. Anti-Lag 2 coordinates CPU and GPU work to reduce the queue of rendered frames. Support is game-specific, so use the in-game or profile toggle only where the title exposes it and verify that frame pacing remains stable.
Check latency and artifacts
Frame generation cannot remove the input delay of the underlying base frame rate. Test aiming, rapid camera turns and fast side-scrolling after enabling it. Disable the feature if you see repeated edges, disocclusion trails, warped particles or an unstable interface, particularly in competitive games where latency matters more than presentation smoothness.
FSR Ray Regeneration: AMD’s ray-reconstruction counterpart
FSR Ray Regeneration is part of AMD’s FSR “Redstone” suite. It addresses the same broad problem as DLSS Ray Reconstruction—reconstructing ray-traced effects from limited samples—but it is not NVIDIA’s algorithm and should not be expected to behave identically.

Driver software cannot add Ray Regeneration to a title that does not implement the feature.

Radeon Super Resolution for games without FSR
RSR is a driver-level fallback. It works on Windows 10 and Windows 11 with discrete Radeon RX 5000-series and newer GPUs running current Adrenalin software. Because it operates outside the game’s renderer, it is useful for older or unpatched titles but has less game-specific information than native FSR.
How to configure RSR
- Open Radeon Software and select the Gaming tab.
- Open the global graphics settings or the profile for the specific game.
- Enable Radeon Super Resolution.
- Launch the game and set its render resolution below the monitor’s native resolution while keeping the display output at native resolution. Choose one step below native first—for example, 1920×1080 rendering on a 2560×1440 output.
- Apply the game setting, restart if required, and confirm that RSR reports as active in the Radeon overlay or profile.
Disable RSR whenever the game’s own FSR is enabled. Let one scaler perform reconstruction; using both can soften detail and compound ringing or shimmering.
HYPR-RX: useful automation, not a guaranteed optimum
HYPR-RX can combine compatible Radeon features such as AFMF 2, RSR, Anti-Lag, Boost and selected in-game FSR or frame-generation settings. Hardware support starts with RX 7000-series GPUs and newer, or Ryzen 7040-series APUs with RDNA 3 graphics.
Use HYPR-RX as a baseline profile, then open the game’s own graphics menu and Radeon’s per-game profile. Confirm which scaler was selected, whether frame generation was enabled, and whether Anti-Lag is active. HYPR-RX may choose native FSR when the game supports it and RSR when it does not; the resulting combination can differ by title. If a game already has carefully tuned FSR settings, a manual profile is often easier to troubleshoot.
Native FSR, RSR and HYPR-RX compared
| Option | Image quality potential | Game support | GPU requirement in the documented guidance | Latency and motion considerations | Frame generation or ray regeneration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Native FSR Upscaling | Usually the best Radeon path because the developer supplies motion data and title-specific tuning | Only games with FSR integration | Depends on the FSR version and game; FSR Redstone ML upscaling targets RX 7000 and RX 9000 hardware | Upscaling alone does not add generated-frame latency; inspect each title’s motion handling | May expose FSR Frame Generation and, in supported titles, Ray Regeneration |
| RSR | Convenient fallback, but it lacks the game-specific data available to native FSR | Broadly useful for games without built-in FSR | Discrete RX 5000-series or newer on Windows 10/11 with current Adrenalin | Driver-level scaling; do not stack with in-game FSR | No title-level Ray Regeneration; frame generation must come from a separate supported feature |
| HYPR-RX | Varies with the profile and the game feature it selects | Supported titles and compatible Radeon hardware | RX 7000-series or newer, or Ryzen 7040-series RDNA 3 APUs | Can combine Anti-Lag and frame-generation features; verify the actual profile | May enable AFMF 2, FSR frame generation or RSR depending on support |
| NVIDIA DLSS | Not a Radeon driver option | GeForce RTX games and integrations | GeForce RTX; Multi Frame Generation is documented for RTX 50-series | Controlled by NVIDIA’s implementation, not Radeon Software | DLSS Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction and Frame Generation are NVIDIA technologies |
Hardware and software compatibility
FSR Redstone generations
AMD positions RX 9000-series hardware, including the RX 9070 XT used in its examples, as the current target for the full FSR Redstone feature tier. AMD’s documentation also identifies ML upscaling support on RX 7000 and RX 9000 GPUs, while older supported Radeon generations can use analytical fallback paths for some features.
FSR 3.1 and later frame generation
FSR 3.1 introduced separable frame generation. AMD GPUOpen lists FSR 3.1.5, released in August 2025, as a maintenance release that fixed a possible negative RCAS output. AMD GPUOpen lists FSR Frame Generation 4.0.1, released in June 2026 as part of SDK 2.3, as a later patch release. A game’s actual implementation may lag behind the newest SDK, so the version number on a product page does not guarantee that every title includes every fix.
Performance claims and how to interpret them
AMD reports that FSR Redstone increased RX 9070 XT performance by an average of 3.5× on its current product page, with individual game examples ranging from 2.6× to 4.7× under AMD’s stated test conditions. These are vendor measurements, not independent benchmarks. They should be treated as an indication of the feature’s potential in AMD’s selected scenarios rather than a guaranteed multiplier for your game, resolution or ray-tracing preset.

Troubleshooting common problems
The game shows only DLSS options
That title may have shipped with NVIDIA-only integration. Check for a separate FSR option, an FSR-compatible patch, or a documented third-party mod whose compatibility and safety you can independently verify. Radeon Software cannot translate a DLSS menu into a working AMD implementation.
RSR is not activating
- Confirm that the GPU is a discrete RX 5000-series or newer model.
- Use Windows 10 or Windows 11 and current Adrenalin software.
- Set the game’s render resolution below the monitor’s native resolution; RSR has nothing to upscale when the game already renders natively.
- Disable the game’s FSR or another upscaler so two reconstruction stages are not competing.
Frame generation looks smooth but feels slow
Check the non-generated FPS and frame times. Generated frames improve presentation cadence but do not create equivalent input samples. Reduce heavy settings, use FSR Quality or Balanced, enable Anti-Lag 2 where supported, and disable frame generation if the base rate remains unstable.
Ghosting or shimmering appears
Test a higher FSR preset, lower sharpening, and the game’s alternate reconstruction or ray-tracing options. Compare a repeatable camera movement through foliage, reflections and particles. If only Ray Regeneration produces the artifact, leave that option off while retaining ordinary FSR upscaling.

Quick Recap
A practical decision tree
- Does the game include FSR? Use native FSR Quality, then Balanced or Performance only when measured performance requires it.
- Does it include FSR Frame Generation? Enable it after the base rate is stable; pair with Anti-Lag 2 when supported.
- Does it include FSR Ray Regeneration? Test it in motion and keep it only if ray-traced detail remains stable.
- No native FSR? Enable RSR, lower the game’s render resolution below native and keep the output resolution native.
- Want automation? Try HYPR-RX on supported hardware, then verify each per-game toggle manually.
- Looking for DLSS controls? They are not available on Radeon; use the corresponding AMD feature exposed by the title.
