For Squad on PS5, the best headset is the one that keeps your voice intelligible, delivers directional game cues without delay, and remains comfortable through long operations. Choose the PlayStation PULSE Elite for the simplest first-party wireless setup, the Audeze Maxwell 2 for a premium-detail approach, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless or Omni for multi-device flexibility, the Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED for cross-platform use, or the Turtle Beach Atlas 200 for an inexpensive wired connection.
Squad is currently in a PS5 alpha preview rather than a completed console release. The recommendations below therefore focus on PS5 compatibility and communication features that also apply to tactical games such as Ready or Not and Delta Force. They are feature-based recommendations, not claims from controlled comparative testing.
Squad’s PS5 status matters when you buy a headset
Offworld Industries announced on October 15, 2026 that Squad is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The PS5 alpha preview began on October 16, 2026. The PlayStation Store alpha listing identifies a PS5 Alpha Preview with PS5 Pro enhancements, up to 99 online players and an alpha release date of October 16, 2026.
The separate PlayStation Store concept page describes 50-versus-50-scale combined-arms warfare and cross-platform multiplayer, but still lists the full PS5 release date as to be determined. Treat the alpha as an early access preview, not proof that every launch feature, performance target or console mode is final.
#1 Best Overall
- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- VOLUME WHEEL — Its on-headset control makes it convenient to adjust audio levels without having to fiddle with any system or program settings
That distinction changes what is sensible to buy. A headset should work reliably with the PS5 system and with other team shooters now, rather than depend on an unconfirmed Squad launch feature.
What tactical-shooter players should prioritize
In a team shooter, a microphone is part of your equipment. Squad’s official console announcement emphasizes communication, teamwork, coordination and tactical decisions. Ready or Not similarly expects players to communicate and protect their squad, while PlayStation describes Delta Force as a squad-based tactical shooter with 64-player battles, strategy and crossplay.
- Understandable microphone: Teammates need words such as “left,” “smoke,” “vehicle,” and grid references to survive noisy firefights. A clear boom or well-positioned microphone is more valuable than decorative lighting.
- Reliable low-latency connection: Use a PlayStation Link connection, a dedicated USB wireless transmitter or the DualSense controller’s 3.5mm jack. These routes are intended for game audio; do not assume ordinary Bluetooth headphones will carry PS5 game sound.
- Comfort for long sessions: Tactical matches can last far longer than a quick arcade round. Check clamping force, pad material, headband pressure, eyeglass clearance and whether the microphone can be moved out of the way.
- Separable game and chat levels: A physical game/chat balance control or clear PS5 controls lets you hear a squad leader without losing footsteps, reloads or vehicle audio.
- Directional intelligibility: You need left-right and front-back cues, but excessive bass or aggressive virtual surround processing can mask speech. Prefer a headset whose sound remains clear when several channels are active.
- Platform fit: Confirm the exact PlayStation SKU. Product families often include separate Xbox and PlayStation versions with different wireless transmitters or feature support.
Comparison of the recommended PS5 headsets
| Headset | Best fit | Connection and controls | Microphone and platform notes | Battery or power information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation PULSE Elite | Best PS5-native wireless path | PlayStation wireless connection, Bluetooth and dual-device connectivity; PS5-first integration | AI-enhanced noise rejection is listed by PlayStation; the listing does not establish that it has the best microphone or positional imaging in every environment | PlayStation Direct states up to 30 hours; charging time and real-world runtime vary by use |
| Audeze Maxwell 2 for PlayStation | Best premium-detail path | PlayStation model with active noise cancellation; verify the supplied transmitter and connection options for the exact package | Premium PlayStation positioning; the cited catalog does not provide a controlled comparison of microphone or imaging performance | Not stated in the cited catalog |
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless or Nova Pro Omni | Best premium multi-device path | 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth, with multi-source features; Omni descriptions also identify ANC and a retractable microphone | PlayStation variants can provide access to PS5 Tempest 3D audio; confirm the exact PlayStation-compatible SKU | Not stated in the cited sources |
| Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED | Best cross-platform wireless path | LIGHTSPEED wireless path aimed at PC and console use; confirm the included PlayStation-compatible receiver | Logitech’s guidance stresses microphone clarity, comfort, compatibility and plug-and-play setup; no independent superiority claim is established here | Not stated in the cited sources |
| Turtle Beach Atlas 200 | Best budget wired path | 3.5mm cable to the DualSense controller; no wireless battery management | Designed around a clear boom microphone and straightforward party-chat use; performance is not established as superior to every similarly priced wired headset | No battery required |
PlayStation PULSE Elite: the easiest official PS5 route
PULSE Elite is the clearest choice when your priority is a first-party wireless setup with minimal configuration. PlayStation Direct lists PlayStation wireless operation, Bluetooth, dual-device connectivity, AI-enhanced noise rejection and a stated battery life of up to 30 hours.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy it suits Squad
- The PS5-native positioning reduces uncertainty about console pairing and system integration.
- Bluetooth and dual-device connectivity can keep a phone or secondary device connected while you play, subject to the exact operating behavior of the headset and console.
- Thirty hours is a manufacturer-listed maximum, so charging frequency depends on volume, wireless mode and how often the headset is used away from the console.
What the listing does not prove
First-party status does not automatically mean the microphone is best in every room or that directional imaging beats every competitor. If your squad plays in a noisy space, test how your voice sounds in a PS5 party before committing to a long-term setup.
Audeze Maxwell 2 for PlayStation: a premium-detail option
PlayStation Direct lists the Audeze Maxwell 2 Headset with ANC for PlayStation in its PS5 headset catalog. It is aimed at buyers who are willing to spend more for a premium PlayStation headset and advanced features.

These eye-catching lights give your setup a gamer-ready look while maintaining focus on performance. (*Note: The USB connector is for LED lighting only)
Who should choose it
Choose this path when detailed game audio and active noise cancellation matter more than minimizing cost. It is a logical candidate for players who want to separate subtle environmental information from explosions and vehicle noise, provided the headset’s fit and tuning suit them.
Checks before ordering
- Confirm that the package is the PlayStation edition, not a version intended for another console.
- Verify the current connection method, included transmitter and compatibility details on the live product page.
- Check current stock and price at the retailer you intend to use; those details were not established in the cited catalog.
- Do not treat the catalog entry as a controlled test proving superior microphone clarity or positional accuracy.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless or Omni: premium multi-device flexibility
The Arctis Nova Pro family is the strongest fit for a player who moves between PS5, a PC and other audio sources. RTINGS includes the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless among its 2026 PS5 recommendations. TechRadar’s current roundup describes the Nova Pro Omni as a leading wireless PS5 option with 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connectivity, a retractable microphone, ANC and multi-source features.
Why multi-source features matter
Two wireless paths can be useful when you need console game audio and a second device at the same time. For example, a phone can remain available for a call while the PS5 carries the match. The exact mixing behavior depends on the model and its base station, so read the controls for the specific SKU rather than assuming every Nova Pro product works identically.
Verify the PlayStation version
Model names in this family are easy to confuse. Confirm that the transmitter explicitly supports PlayStation and that the package includes the correct console cable or base station. PlayStation variants can provide access to PS5 Tempest 3D audio, but that feature is not a reason to buy an incompatible edition.
Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED: a cross-platform wireless path
Logitech’s PlayStation headset guidance tells PS5 buyers to evaluate microphone clarity, comfort, compatibility and plug-and-play setup. It presents the G PRO line among its PlayStation-oriented products, making the G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED a sensible option for someone who shares one headset between PS5 and PC.

- Hear your Voice Level with Variable Mic Monitoring
- Low-Latency 2.4GHz Wireless plus Bluetooth 5.2 Connectivity
- Amplified 40mm Drivers for Powerful Spatial Audio
- QuickSwitch Button for Seamless Wireless to Bluetooth Switching
- Four Turtle Beach Audio EQ Modes
Best use case
This model makes the most sense when your household has more than one gaming platform and you value a wireless workflow that can move between them. Confirm the receiver, console cable and supported features in the exact retail package. The available guidance does not establish an independent test advantage over the other recommendations.

For Squad, treat the microphone as the deciding test: record a short party-chat clip, ask a teammate whether consonants remain clear during gunfire, and adjust the mic position before judging the headset. A feature list alone cannot predict how a particular room, voice and console chat mix will sound.
Turtle Beach Atlas 200: the straightforward budget wired choice
PlayStation Direct lists the Turtle Beach Atlas 200 among PS5 headsets. Turtle Beach’s PS5 guidance explains that connection method matters because PS5 does not support standard Bluetooth audio for game sound, and it emphasizes the value of a clear boom microphone for party chat. Atlas 200 therefore represents the simplest low-cost route: plug a wired headset into the controller and play.
Why wired can be better for a tactical shooter
- No battery to charge during a long operation.
- No wireless receiver to lose or move between rooms.
- The DualSense’s 3.5mm jack carries game and chat audio through one cable.
- A boom microphone can be positioned consistently near the corner of your mouth.
Trade-offs
The cable can catch on a chair or restrict movement, and you do not get the convenience of roaming away from the console. Atlas 200 is a budget recommendation, not evidence that it outperforms every similarly priced wired headset.
How to connect a headset to PS5 correctly
Wireless headset with a dedicated USB transmitter
- Plug the headset’s USB transmitter or base station into a PS5 USB port.
- Turn on the headset and wait for the transmitter and headset to pair.
- Open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and select the connected USB headset as the output device if PS5 has not selected it automatically.
- Open Settings > Sound > Microphone, choose the headset microphone and run the microphone level test.
- In a party, adjust the game/chat balance so squad callouts remain audible without eliminating directional game sound.
PlayStation Link or another PS5-native wireless connection
- Connect the supplied PlayStation Link adapter or follow the headset’s pairing instructions.
- Confirm that the PS5 recognizes both the headphones and microphone.
- Check the output device, microphone input and volume limiter in the PS5 sound menus.
- Make a short party-chat recording before entering a serious match.
Wired headset through the DualSense controller
- Insert the headset’s 3.5mm plug fully into the controller’s headset jack.
- Go to Settings > Sound > Audio Output and confirm that output is routed to the controller headset.
- Under Settings > Sound > Microphone, select the controller headset microphone and set the input level so normal speech reaches the target range without clipping.
- Use the controller volume controls or PS5 sound menu to balance game and chat audio.
PlayStation’s PS5 FAQ confirms that a headset can connect through the controller’s 3.5mm jack and advises checking the manufacturer for compatibility.

Can Bluetooth headphones provide PS5 game audio?
Do not buy a normal Bluetooth-only headset expecting it to work as a standalone PS5 game-audio device. Turtle Beach’s PS5 guidance states that PS5 does not support standard Bluetooth audio for game sound. Bluetooth can still be useful for a phone or a secondary device when the headset also has a supported console connection, but it is not the normal direct path for PS5 game audio.
For wireless play, look for one of these explicitly supported routes:
- PlayStation Link or another PlayStation-native wireless system.
- A dedicated low-latency USB transmitter listed as PS5-compatible.
- A headset package that documents PS5 support for its receiver and microphone.
Make voice communication dependable in Squad
Position the microphone consistently
Place a boom microphone close enough to capture speech without touching your lips. Keep it near the corner of your mouth rather than directly in front of your breath stream. If your headset has a retractable microphone, extend it to the same position each session.
Set levels before a match
- Use the PS5 microphone test to ensure ordinary speech is strong but not distorted.
- Ask a party member whether quiet words remain intelligible when you speak at your normal in-game volume.
- Reduce sidetone or microphone monitoring if it makes you raise your voice unnecessarily.
- Use a physical game/chat control when available; otherwise change the balance in the PS5 sound interface before spawning.
Preserve directional information
Start with the headset’s neutral or default sound profile. Excessive bass can bury footsteps, reloads and vehicle movement, while aggressive surround modes can make front-back cues less predictable. Change one setting at a time and test it in a quiet area before relying on it in a match.

Comfort for long tactical sessions
Comfort is not a cosmetic issue: fatigue makes players remove the headset, lower the volume or miss communication. Before buying, check these practical points:

- Clamp: A secure fit should not create a headache after an hour. Players with larger heads should look for adjustable extension and flexible hinges.
- Pad depth: Your ears should not touch the driver housing. Glasses wearers should pay attention to pressure where the frames meet the pads.
- Weight distribution: A padded headband can matter more than a small difference in total weight if the headset stays on for several hours.
- Heat: Closed pads and ANC can become warm. Fabric or breathable alternatives may suit hot rooms better than sealed synthetic pads.
- Controls: Volume, mute and game/chat controls should be reachable without removing the headset or looking away from the screen.
Using these headsets with Ready or Not and Delta Force
Ready or Not and Delta Force use the same communication fundamentals as Squad: identify threats, coordinate movement and distinguish squad voices from environmental noise. Any headset in the comparison can be considered for those games when its PS5 connection and microphone are supported.
Ready or Not is described by PlayStation as a PS5 tactical shooter in which players must communicate effectively, protect their squad and coordinate missions. PlayStation describes Delta Force as a PS5 squad-based tactical shooter with crossplay and massive 64-player battles. Those descriptions reinforce the buying criteria, but they do not establish that one headset has a universal advantage in every game.
Troubleshooting common PS5 headset problems
Teammates hear static, breathing or a distant voice
- Move the boom closer to the corner of your mouth and away from the nose.
- Lower microphone gain until loud words no longer clip.
- Check whether the headset is muted on its earcup, inline control or DualSense.
- Try the headset in a PS5 party to separate console settings from a game-specific voice channel.
You hear the game but not your squad
- Check the PS5 party-chat output and game/chat balance.
- Confirm that the party is not muted and that the game has not selected a separate voice-output device.
- If using a wireless transmitter, reseat it in the USB port and pair the headset again.
Your wireless headset works on a phone but not PS5
Phone Bluetooth success does not prove PS5 game-audio compatibility. Use the headset’s documented USB transmitter or PlayStation-native adapter, or switch to the DualSense 3.5mm connection.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The headset disconnects during a match
- Charge it before play; the PULSE Elite’s stated maximum is 30 hours, while battery figures for the other models are not established in the cited material.
- Keep the wireless transmitter in direct range of the headset and avoid placing it behind a metal cabinet or television.
- Update the headset and PS5 system software when the manufacturer provides an update path.
- If interruptions continue, use a wired controller connection to determine whether the problem is wireless interference or the headset itself.
Which headset should you choose?
| Your priority | Choose | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Official PS5 integration and easy wireless setup | PlayStation PULSE Elite | First-party positioning, PlayStation wireless support, Bluetooth, dual-device connectivity and a stated 30-hour battery life |
| Premium PlayStation headset with ANC | Audeze Maxwell 2 for PlayStation | Listed as a premium PlayStation model with active noise cancellation; verify current package details and price |
| PS5, PC and multiple audio sources | SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless or Omni | 2.4GHz, Bluetooth and multi-source features; exact PlayStation SKU matters |
| One wireless headset for several platforms | Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED | Cross-platform-oriented LIGHTSPEED path and plug-and-play compatibility guidance |
| Lowest-complexity wired setup | Turtle Beach Atlas 200 | 3.5mm controller connection, boom microphone and no battery to manage |
For Squad’s PS5 alpha and for comparable tactical shooters, buy around communication reliability first. Confirm the exact PlayStation version, use a supported low-latency connection, and test microphone clarity with a teammate before judging any headset by feature count alone.
