2. Restream for scheduled finite playlist events
Restream’s Help Center article, published July 25, 2026, documents an ordered playlist workflow: choose or upload videos, arrange them, optionally add graphics, captions, or QR codes, preview, and schedule. This is a fit for a playlist event with a defined start and finish, not evidence of a perpetual loop.

These are prices and limits listed by Restream on that dated page, not a lasting quote; check the current plan page before purchasing. The article says playlists can run up to 24 hours and contain up to 40 entries, including duplicate files. Once a playlist is live, you cannot add, remove, or reorder videos; graphics and chat can still be changed. Back-to-back playlists are separate streams with a two-minute buffer, and prerecorded items cannot be blended with live content.

When Restream is the better fit
- You need an ordered, scheduled playlist that will end rather than repeat indefinitely.
- The documented 24-hour maximum and 40-entry limit fit your event.
- You can prepare and lock the playlist before it goes live and accept a two-minute buffer between consecutive playlists.
3. StreamYard for one scheduled prerecorded broadcast
StreamYard describes a scheduled prerecorded broadcast that starts automatically at the selected time even if the host is offline, then ends when the video finishes. Its Help Center lists plan-dependent maximum video lengths: two hours on Core, four hours on Advanced, and eight hours on Team and Business. The documentation also says prerecorded broadcasts stream at up to 1080p on paid plans. Scheduling horizon and the number of simultaneous events vary by plan, so confirm those details for the plan you intend to use.
Workflow caveats
- Without an announcement post, the destination watch link does not appear until the stream is live. If you schedule an announcement, the shareable YouTube link appears at the announcement time.
- This mode runs outside the live studio. StreamYard says overlays, media assets, and on-stream comments are unavailable during prerecorded playback.
- The documented behavior covers one selected recording ending when it finishes; it does not establish continuous looping or an ordered playlist channel.
4. DIY continuous playout: computer or server
If you do not use managed cloud playout, an encoder must send the prerecorded video feed to YouTube. StreamNeo’s guide describes OBS on a computer and FFmpeg on a server as DIY approaches and says YouTube itself does not provide a function to loop an uploaded video as a live RTMP broadcast. You remain responsible for keeping the source machine, encoder, network, and stream session running. The cited guide does not establish a universal OBS or FFmpeg configuration; settings depend on the media file, system, and workflow, so do not copy a generic command without validating it for your setup.

Plan the operational responsibilities
- Keep the computer or server awake and prevent sleep, shutdown, or scheduled restarts from interrupting playback.
- Maintain a stable upstream connection and monitor whether YouTube is still receiving the stream.
- Prepare the playlist or loop behavior in the encoder workflow before going live; confirm what happens at file boundaries and when playback reaches the end.
- Keep a recovery procedure for a dropped connection or encoder failure, including how to restart the feed and verify it on YouTube.
A spare computer does not by itself provide playlist automation: it still needs playback/encoding configuration, a network connection, power, and attention when something fails. A self-managed server shifts the work to server setup and maintenance rather than eliminating it.
