There is no single best place for every developer to publish technical articles. Choose a developer community such as Hashnode or DEV Community when a developer-focused context matters; consider Medium as a general publishing network; look at Ghost for an independent publication with broader control; and consider Substack when email and paid subscriptions are central. The right fit depends on how you want readers to find your work, how much control and portability you need, and how much setup you are willing to manage.
How to choose a publishing platform
Compare platforms on the work you need them to do, rather than assuming one will deliver the most readers or search traffic. Available evidence does not establish a reliable reach or earnings ranking. Instead, ask these questions before moving your writing workflow:
- Discovery: Do you want to publish in a developer-focused community or general network, or bring readers through your own site, email list, and other channels?
- Identity and control: How important are a custom domain, design choices, and control over the publication experience?
- Portability: What content and audience data can you export, and in what format? Can you take subscriber relationships with you?
- Monetization: Do you need paid subscriptions, or do you want flexibility to use other business models? Check fees and terms before comparing costs.
- Operating effort: Is a quick start more valuable than control over setup, integrations, and technical maintenance?
- Writing workflow: Does the editor and publishing process suit your code examples, long-form articles, and existing tools?
Developer-focused platforms: Hashnode and DEV Community
Hashnode and DEV Community (dev.to) are the developer-oriented options in this shortlist. A daily.dev comparison of Hashnode, DEV Community, and Medium is a useful starting point for questions about ownership, SEO, monetization, and community, but it is not evidence of which platform will deliver more readers.
Before choosing either service, verify its current custom-domain support, canonical URL behavior, export options, analytics, and monetization terms. Those details can affect how well a platform fits an independent publishing strategy, and the comparison available here does not establish their current specifics.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Medium: a general publishing network
Medium is the general publishing-network option in this group. It may suit a developer who wants to publish within a broader platform, but do not treat that as a promise of readership, search ranking, or income: those outcomes are not established by the available evidence.
Ghost’s comparison with Medium characterizes Medium as more constrained in control and customization than an independent Ghost publication. That is Ghost’s vendor perspective, not a neutral measurement. If control matters to you, compare the current publishing and customization options directly before committing.

Ghost: an independent publication with more control
Ghost presents itself as an independent publishing platform. In its comparison with Medium, Ghost describes control over content, users, design, and integrations; those are the vendor’s claims about its product. Its comparison with Substack positions Ghost as a broader stack for a website, newsletters, and memberships, while emphasizing control over the publication and its economics.
Consider Ghost if you want your technical articles to sit within a publication you shape, potentially alongside a newsletter or membership offering. Decide separately whether managed hosting or self-hosting makes sense for your technical capacity. Check current plan pricing, transaction costs, hosting requirements, and export details before treating it as a cost-effective or portable choice.

Substack: newsletter-led publishing and paid email
Substack is the clearest fit to investigate when an email publication is central or you may charge for subscriptions. Its features page says creators can keep their subscriber list, connect a domain, export data, set subscription pricing, publish RSS feeds and sitemaps, use Google Analytics 4 integration, and access paid-subscription tools.
These are claims on Substack’s product page, so confirm the current features and terms before relying on them. The page supports considering Substack for an email-led publication; it does not establish the total cost for a typical creator. Compare current fees and customization with alternatives rather than assuming that a particular platform will be cheaper.
