Google recommends two direct in-person placements for its review QR code: include it on receipts and print it for display in your store. A receipt makes the request available after checkout; a visible in-store display gives customers another opportunity to scan. Google does not publish comparative results showing that either placement generates more scans or reviews, so choose based on how customers move through your business.
Where should I put a Google review QR code?
On receipts
Google explicitly suggests including the review link or QR code on receipts. This makes the request available after checkout, when a customer can take the receipt with them and scan it later. Keep the code and its purpose easy to notice; there is no published scan-rate or review-lift figure for receipt placement.
On an in-store display
Google also recommends printing the QR code and displaying it in the store. A countertop sign holder is one practical way to show a printout, but it is an optional implementation, not a Google requirement or endorsement. Choose a spot customers can see during or after their visit without blocking the checkout area.
When choosing between a receipt and a display, consider whether customers keep receipts, whether the display is visible, and whether they have a moment to scan. These are practical placement considerations, not a measured ranking: Google’s guidance does not identify a higher-performing location.

Other places to share the review request
Google also lists thank-you emails and the end of a chat interaction as places to share the review link or QR code. These can supplement physical placements when they fit the way your business communicates with customers.
How to get the Google review QR code
- On a computer browser, open your business’s Google Business Profile.
- Select Read Reviews, then choose Get more reviews.
- Download the QR code image and add it to a receipt or print it for an in-store display.
Google’s current instructions say QR codes can be generated on a computer browser, not on a mobile device. Interface labels may change; follow the current options shown in your profile.

Ask for genuine reviews without offering incentives
Google Business Profile Help says reviews and other user contributions must reflect a genuine experience. It states: “Offering incentives, like free or discounted goods or services, to customers in exchange for reviews is considered fake engagement and is strictly prohibited.” A QR code can make it easier to reach the review form, but do not offer a reward in exchange for a review.
Google Business Profile Help also notes that “Honest and balanced reviews can help potential customers decide.” The request should invite customers to share their experience, rather than ask for a particular rating or positive wording.

If your sign includes a customer review or Google branding
A sign that only displays a review QR code is different from one that reproduces a customer’s review or uses Google branding. For marketing use of a customer’s review, Google Partner Marketing Hub says the reviewer owns the review and the business must get consent. It also cautions against unofficial Google logos, badges, or lockups. Follow the applicable brand guidance if you add those elements.
