Start at 1920×1080 with a 60-fps target. If your computer matches or exceeds the published recommended hardware, select the High preset. If it is close to the minimum specification, select Low first. Steam estimates 1080p/60fps on both profiles, but warns that graphics-intensive scenes can drop frames. Higher resolutions—including 3840×2160 on a suitable monitor—are supported, yet no official performance estimate is published for 1440p or 4K.
Install the current Steam build before judging performance. Bandai Namco’s Japanese site lists Steam version 2.0.0 and an approximately 7 GB launch update, so early stutter or missing options may be update-related.
Recommended starting settings
Use the following baseline before changing anything else. It follows the performance estimates in Steam’s system-requirements listing rather than an independent benchmark.

Apply the broad preset first. The official material does not identify which individual graphics option consumes the most frame time, so changing several options simultaneously makes troubleshooting less reliable.

Can your PC run the game?
The published requirements are modest by current PC standards, but the two official listings differ slightly on operating-system and storage wording. Steam’s store page lists Windows 11, while Bandai Namco’s specification includes Windows 10 and Windows 11. Steam lists 8 GB of available space; Bandai Namco recommends approximately 9 GB on Steam. Reserve at least 9 GB so the installation and launch update have room.

The listings describe hardware classes, not a guarantee for every laptop, background workload, driver version, or scene. A machine that technically meets the minimum can still lose frames when another application is using CPU, memory, or storage bandwidth.
Set up 1080p for the most predictable result
1. Update the game before testing
- Open Steam and let Tales of Eternia Remastered download all pending files.
- Confirm that the game is on the current build. Bandai Namco’s Japanese site identifies Steam version 2.0.0 and an approximately 7 GB launch update.
- Restart Steam after the update completes, then launch the game once before changing graphics settings.
Testing an old build can produce misleading stutter or missing features, so record performance only after the update has installed.

- Set the display resolution to 1920×1080.
- Select High if your processor and graphics card are at least the recommended classes. Select Low if they are close to the minimum classes.
- Set a 60-fps cap or use a 60 Hz display-refresh target. Bandai Namco lists 60 fps as the recommended maximum; an unlocked target is not confirmed by the official specifications.
3. Check a repeatable scene
Walk through the same demanding area several times instead of judging the opening menu. Steam specifically cautions that graphics-intensive scenes can reduce frame rate. If the frame rate is stable in ordinary areas but dips in one effect-heavy scene, that behavior may be within the published qualification rather than a fault with your installation.

Using 1440p and 4K
The official specification allows Steam output up to 3840×2160 when the connected monitor supports it. That confirms display capability, not a 4K/60 performance guarantee. Steam publishes estimates only for 1920×1080, at Low and High.
1440p procedure
- Change the output to 2560×1440 while keeping the 60-fps target.
- Start with the same preset that worked at 1080p.
- If frame rate falls, lower the broad preset one step before experimenting with any individual option.
- Keep the setting if frame pacing remains smooth; otherwise return to 1080p.
4K procedure
- Select 3840×2160 only if the monitor exposes that mode to Windows and the game.
- Begin at Low when maintaining 60 fps matters more than image quality.
- Raise the preset only after a demanding scene remains smooth.
- Do not assume that a 4K-capable monitor or graphics card will deliver 60 fps; no official 4K benchmark is provided.
Ultrawide support, DLSS, FSR, ray tracing, and an unlocked frame-rate mode are not confirmed in the published specifications. Treat any such option shown by a third-party overlay or driver panel as separate from an officially supported in-game feature.
What to lower when the game stutters
Because neither official source ranks individual options by frame-time cost, use a controlled sequence. Change one variable, replay the same scene, and keep the change only if it improves consistency.

Move from High to Low. This is the only adjustment directly tied to Steam’s published performance profiles.
- Return to 1920×1080. If you are on 1440p or 4K, resolution is the clearest workload reduction available.
- Check the frame-rate target. Keep the cap at 60 rather than asking the game to render beyond the recommended maximum.
- Test presentation modes. Graphics Mode and SFX Mode can switch between remastered and original visuals and sound effects. Use whichever presentation you prefer; no official source claims that either mode produces a specific performance gain.
- Close competing workloads. Shut down recording, browser, update, and overlay processes temporarily so the minimum-class CPU and 4 GB memory configuration are not sharing resources.
- Verify the installation. If stutter began after an interrupted update or files are repeatedly redownloaded, use Steam’s file-verification function and then relaunch.
If Low at 1080p still drops in the same graphics-intensive scene, the behavior is consistent with Steam’s warning and may not be removable through a hidden “best” option. If frame rate is poor everywhere—including menus or simple areas—check that the game is using the intended GPU, that DirectX 12 starts correctly, and that the system is not thermally or power limited.

Graphics Mode and SFX Mode
The remaster adds separate toggles for remastered or original visuals and sound effects. They are useful for deciding how closely the game should resemble the original release, not a documented performance switch.
- Remastered graphics: choose this for the updated presentation.
- Original graphics: choose this for the classic look.
- Remastered SFX: use the updated sound presentation.
- Original SFX: use the original sound effects.
Change one mode at a time when diagnosing a problem, but do not expect a guaranteed frame-rate difference. The launch announcement describes the toggles as presentation features and does not attach a performance measurement to either choice.
Quality-of-life options that do not determine GPU performance
Several additions affect play speed and navigation rather than rendering load:
- Destination icons make the next location easier to identify.
- Encounter controls can disable encounters when you want uninterrupted exploration.
- High-speed auto-battle accelerates routine fights.
- Battle Retry and Quick Recovery reduce the time spent repeating or recovering from a battle.
- Additional difficulty options change challenge, not the published graphics preset.
These features can make a low-power PC feel more responsive during play, but they should not be treated as substitutes for a graphics setting.

Practical profiles
Minimum-class desktop or older laptop
- 1920×1080 output
- Low preset
- 60-fps cap
- At least 4 GB system memory available to the game, with other applications closed
- At least 9 GB free storage to accommodate the installation and update
This matches Steam’s minimum estimate. Keep expectations realistic in effect-heavy scenes, where the listing allows for drops.
Recommended-class PC
- 1920×1080 output
- High preset
- 60-fps cap or 60 Hz refresh target
- Current Steam build, including version 2.0.0 and its launch update
This is the profile most directly supported by Steam’s recommended estimate.
High-resolution enthusiast display
- Use 2560×1440 or 3840×2160 only after confirming the 1080p profile is stable.
- Keep the 60-fps target.
- Lower the broad preset first if frame rate falls.
- Return to 1080p when consistent frame pacing matters more than added sharpness.
Diagnosing common symptoms
Frame rate is low from the first scene
Confirm that Windows and the game see the dedicated graphics adapter, then select Low at 1080p and close background workloads. If the processor, memory, or GPU is below the published classes, the official estimates do not apply.

Only large battles or effect-heavy areas dip
Steam explicitly notes that graphics-intensive scenes may reduce frame rate. Keep the 60-fps target, test Low at 1080p, and judge whether the dips are brief and repeatable rather than assuming the entire configuration is failing.

Stutter started after launch
Install the approximately 7 GB launch update and confirm version 2.0.0 before changing hardware or display settings. Restart Steam after patching and verify files if the update was interrupted.
The image is sharp but motion feels uneven
Use a 60-fps cap or a display refresh target of 60 Hz. The official specification recommends a maximum of 60 fps, and it does not confirm an unlocked mode. Test at 1080p before evaluating higher-resolution output.
You cannot select 4K
3840×2160 is conditional on the connected monitor and the mode exposed by Windows. Check the monitor’s active resolution in Windows first; a display that does not advertise 4K cannot make the game offer it.
What the official specifications do—and do not—promise
The evidence supports a clear baseline: DirectX 12, 4 GB memory, the listed Core i3/Ryzen 3 processor class, the listed GTX 650 Ti/Radeon HD 7770/Arc A310 graphics class, 1080p/60fps estimates at Low and High, and up to 3840×2160 output on a suitable Steam display. It does not establish per-option benchmark rankings, 1440p or 4K frame rates, ultrawide behavior, ray tracing, DLSS, FSR, or an unlocked frame-rate mode. Those details should not be assumed when planning a settings profile.
Bottom line
For most PCs, use 1920×1080, a 60-fps cap, and High when the system meets the recommended classes; use Low when it is near minimum. Patch to Steam version 2.0.0 first. If you move to 1440p or 4K, treat it as an image-quality experiment and lower the preset or return to 1080p whenever demanding scenes stop holding a consistent 60 fps.
