If you want OnePlus-level smoothness without buying a OnePlus phone, start with the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra for the strongest all-round flagship package. Choose the ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro for gaming and exceptional tested endurance, the Google Pixel 10 for computational photography and clean Android, or a high-refresh foldable such as the Honor Magic V5 or Motorola Razr Plus 2026.

The OnePlus 12 sets the reference point with a 120Hz LTPO ProXDR display. Every recommendation below reaches at least 120Hz, while two foldables and the ROG Phone 9 Pro go substantially higher. Refresh rate is only one part of the experience, so this guide also weighs variable-refresh behavior, performance, cameras, battery testing, software support, durability, form factor and regional availability.

What counts as a real OnePlus alternative?

A 120Hz panel can redraw up to 120 times per second, making scrolling, animations and supported games look visibly smoother than 60Hz screens. The OnePlus 12 combines that speed with LTPO technology, which lets the display vary its refresh rate instead of remaining at maximum speed all the time. A good alternative should therefore meet two tests: it must reach 120Hz or more, and it should manage refresh intelligently so smoothness does not consume unnecessary battery.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Higher numbers such as 165Hz or 185Hz matter most in games that can render at those rates. In ordinary apps, the difference between 120Hz and 165Hz is subtler than the jump from 60Hz to 120Hz. Panel quality, touch response, brightness control and the phone’s ability to sustain performance can matter more than the headline number.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: the broadest flagship replacement

Why it is the default recommendation

Tom’s Guide’s October 13, 2026 guide calls the Galaxy S26 Ultra “the best Android phone.” Its 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel runs from 1Hz to 120Hz. That variable range is the closest match in this group to the OnePlus 12’s always-smooth feel while allowing the phone to drop refresh for static content. The 3120×1440 resolution also gives text and photographs a very sharp appearance on the large screen.

Processing comes from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. The listed configurations pair 12GB or 16GB of RAM with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage. Those options make the S26 Ultra suitable for demanding multitasking, large game libraries and extensive offline media without forcing every buyer into the highest-capacity model.

Camera and zoom flexibility

The rear system combines a 200MP main camera with a 50MP ultrawide, 50MP 5x telephoto and 10MP 3x telephoto. The two dedicated telephoto cameras provide more useful native focal lengths than a single zoom module, while the high-resolution main sensor can support additional cropping in good light. Camera output still depends on Samsung’s processing and shooting conditions; the hardware list alone does not predict identical results in every scene.

Who should choose it

  • Choose the S26 Ultra if you want one phone that balances display quality, speed, storage and camera range.
  • Choose it over the ROG Phone 9 Pro if a conventional flagship design and more versatile camera hardware matter more than the highest refresh mode.
  • Choose it over the Pixel 10 if you need a larger, higher-resolution screen, more storage choices or two optical telephoto perspectives.

Check the exact storage SKU, local 5G bands, warranty and current software-support terms for your country before ordering; those details can differ by market.

ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro: the gaming and endurance specialist

185Hz for compatible games

The ROG Phone 9 Pro uses a 6.78-inch FHD AMOLED display that can reach 185Hz. That ceiling is useful when a game supports very high frame rates and when touch responsiveness is a priority. In normal social, browser and video use, most content will not render at 185 frames per second, so the benefit is concentrated in gaming rather than every interaction.

Performance and battery result

Tom’s Guide lists Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, 16GB or 24GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB of storage. In the same guide’s battery test, the phone lasted 20 hours 34 minutes, described as the best battery life tested there. A controlled test is useful for comparison, but game settings, cellular signal, brightness and sustained heat can produce shorter real-world sessions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Trade-offs

The ROG design emphasizes gaming features and styling. Tom’s Guide reports weaker camera output than the leading camera-focused flagships and only two years of software updates. Those limitations matter if you keep a phone for many years or expect the camera to be your primary creative tool.

  • Pick the ROG Phone 9 Pro for maximum gaming performance, high-refresh play and long tested endurance.
  • Skip it if understated hardware, long software support or best-in-class photography is more important than gaming controls and speed.

Google Pixel 10: the camera-processing and software choice

Balanced 60–120Hz OLED

The Pixel 10 has a 6.3-inch 1080×2424 OLED that varies between 60Hz and 120Hz. It does not advertise the extreme refresh rates of the ROG or Razr, but it reaches the 120Hz threshold and uses a smaller body that is easier to handle one-handed.

Tensor G5 and camera system

Google’s Tensor G5 powers the phone. The listed configuration includes 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. Cameras are a 48MP main, 13MP ultrawide and 10.8MP 5x optical telephoto. Pixel phones rely heavily on computational processing, so the camera experience is shaped by Google’s image pipeline as well as the sensor specifications.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Battery expectations

Tom’s Guide recorded 13 hours 13 minutes in its battery test. That result is lower than the ROG Phone 9 Pro’s 20:34 result in the same testing program, but test scores should be compared only within the same methodology. If you value compact size, Google’s processing and a clean Android experience, the Pixel 10 remains a strong 120Hz alternative.

Honor Magic V5: 120Hz on both sides of a tablet-style foldable

The Magic V5 is aimed at readers who want more screen area rather than a conventional slab. Android Central lists a 7.95-inch inner foldable AMOLED and a 6.43-inch outer OLED, with both displays running at 120Hz. You can use the cover screen for quick tasks and open the larger panel for documents, multitasking or video.

Its Snapdragon 8 Elite platform and up to 1TB of storage put it in flagship territory. The 7,100mAh battery is unusually large on paper for a foldable, although the cited listing does not provide a standardized battery-test duration. Weight, hinge durability, water resistance, camera specifications, pricing and carrier support should be checked in the exact regional version you are considering.

The Magic V5 is the best fit here when a large, high-refresh workspace matters more than pocket simplicity. Foldables also introduce extra moving parts and flexible-screen considerations, so inspect the manufacturer’s warranty and service coverage before purchase.

Motorola Razr Plus 2026: a 165Hz flip phone

Motorola’s Razr Plus 2026 takes the opposite foldable approach: it folds into a compact flip shape rather than opening into a mini-tablet. Android Central lists a 6.9-inch inner AMOLED and a 4-inch outer AMOLED, both at 165Hz. That makes the cover display unusually fluid for quick replies, widgets and previewing notifications, while the inner panel supplies a familiar large-screen experience when opened.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

The phone uses Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and a 4,500mAh battery. Android Central’s listing does not provide RAM, storage, camera details or a standardized endurance score, so those specifications must be confirmed for your market. Motorola’s official comparison page covers the current Razr and Edge families and links accessories such as chargers, USB-C cables, cases and screen protectors; accessory compatibility can vary by regional model.

Choose the Razr Plus 2026 if pocketability and a high-refresh outer screen are more important than the sustained performance headroom of a Snapdragon 8 Elite phone.

Nothing Phone 4a Pro: a mid-range option that needs verification

Android Central describes the Nothing Phone 4a Pro as a mid-range device with DC-like dimming above 50% brightness and 2,160Hz PWM dimming below that level. Those dimming behaviors may matter to people who are sensitive to flicker. However, the cited coverage does not establish the phone’s exact refresh-rate specification. Confirm the official local listing before treating it as a 120Hz-or-faster OnePlus alternative.

How refresh rate, LTPO and dimming affect daily use

120Hz versus 165Hz or 185Hz

At 120Hz, a display can present twice as many refresh opportunities as a 60Hz panel. Moving to 165Hz or 185Hz reduces frame intervals further, but only software and games that render at those rates can show the full advantage. High-refresh modes can also increase heat and battery consumption, especially during sustained gaming.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why a variable range matters

The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 1–120Hz range illustrates the advantage of adaptive refresh. The phone can use a high rate while you scroll, then lower it for a static image or idle screen. This approach preserves the smooth feel of a 120Hz phone without running the panel at maximum speed constantly. The Pixel 10’s 60–120Hz behavior provides a similar adaptive concept over a narrower range.

Dimming and low-light comfort

Refresh rate and flicker control are separate specifications. The Nothing Phone 4a Pro’s cited DC-like and PWM dimming figures are a reminder to check low-brightness behavior if you experience eye strain. Review the exact regional panel settings, because a manufacturer’s implementation can differ between brightness ranges and software versions.

Performance, cameras and endurance: choosing beyond the display

Sustained performance

Snapdragon 8 Elite appears in the ROG Phone 9 Pro and Honor Magic V5, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra uses the customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. These are positioned as flagship platforms. The Pixel 10’s Tensor G5 takes a different approach, prioritizing Google’s software and imaging features rather than competing solely on gaming specifications. The Razr Plus 2026’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is a step below those top-tier chips, which suits its compact flip design but is worth noting for demanding games.

Camera priorities

The Galaxy offers the most extensive stated camera hardware, with four rear cameras and two telephoto focal lengths. The Pixel 10 supplies a smaller three-camera array but pairs it with Google’s computational processing. The ROG Phone 9 Pro includes a 3x telephoto and gaming-focused performance, while the foldable listings here do not provide enough camera detail for a fair hardware ranking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Battery and charging decisions

Only two models have directly comparable standardized results in the cited Tom’s Guide testing: 20:34 for the ROG Phone 9 Pro and 13:13 for the Pixel 10. The Magic V5’s 7,100mAh and Razr Plus 2026’s 4,500mAh figures are capacities, not runtime guarantees. Charging speed, charger inclusion and regional power standards should be verified on the local product page.

Software support, durability and network checks

Software longevity is a major differentiator, but the cited material gives an explicit duration only for the ROG Phone 9 Pro: Tom’s Guide notes two years of software updates. Do not assume identical support periods for the other phones. Confirm the manufacturer’s current update policy, security-patch schedule and the date from which coverage starts.

IP ratings, hinge protection, screen-glass construction, dimensions and weight are not specified consistently in the available model notes. Before buying, verify the exact regional specification rather than inferring durability from a family name. Foldables deserve particular attention to hinge service, inner-screen warranty terms and repair availability.

Carrier compatibility is also regional. Check supported 4G and 5G bands, VoLTE or VoNR requirements, eSIM support, and whether the intended storage variant is officially sold by your carrier or retailer. Imported versions can lack local bands, warranty coverage or language and payment features.

A practical decision framework

  1. Set 120Hz as the floor. If you want the OnePlus 12 experience, reject phones whose local specification does not clearly state 120Hz or faster.
  2. Choose your form factor. Select a conventional slab for predictable durability, the Magic V5 for an expansive tablet-like workspace, or the Razr Plus 2026 for a compact flip.
  3. Match the workload. Gaming favors the ROG Phone 9 Pro; photography and a clean Android experience favor the Pixel 10; broad flagship capability favors the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
  4. Check endurance evidence. Use the 20:34 and 13:13 Tom’s Guide results as controlled comparisons, and treat battery-capacity figures for the foldables as specifications rather than promises.
  5. Verify long-term ownership details. Confirm software-support terms, IP or hinge protection, repair options, storage SKU, carrier bands and warranty in your country.

How to preserve smoothness after you buy

  • Open the display settings and select the adaptive or high-refresh option instead of a fixed 60Hz mode.
  • Update the operating system and game before judging scrolling or frame-rate behavior; early firmware can change refresh policies.
  • Use the phone’s game-performance panel where available, but monitor heat because sustained thermal throttling can erase the advantage of a high peak refresh rate.
  • Keep brightness and background synchronization under control when battery life matters. Adaptive refresh saves power, but a bright 165Hz or 185Hz gaming session remains demanding.
  • Test the actual apps you use. Video services, social feeds and many games may have their own frame-rate limits regardless of the panel’s maximum.

Bottom line

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is the safest all-purpose replacement for a OnePlus phone with a 120Hz display: it combines a 1–120Hz panel, flagship Snapdragon silicon, multiple storage tiers and the most comprehensive stated camera system. The ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro is the specialist choice for gaming and battery endurance, provided its two-year update policy and camera compromises fit your priorities. The Google Pixel 10 is the compact camera-and-software pick. For a foldable experience, the Honor Magic V5 delivers 120Hz on both screens, while the Motorola Razr Plus 2026 offers 165Hz on both inner and outer displays in a pocketable flip design. Availability, bands, pricing and support terms are market-specific, so verify those details immediately before purchase.
