For beginners who want visual, no-code logic and the option to publish beyond one platform, start by evaluating GDevelop. For a quick prompt-generated prototype that stays inside Roblox, try Roblox Build if you’re eligible for access. Choose Roblox Studio for more control within Roblox, or Unity’s AI beta if you’re prepared to learn a full game engine. These tools serve different workflows, so the right choice depends on how you want to build and where you want to publish.

Choose by workflow, not by the word “AI”

“No-code” and “AI game maker” can describe very different ways to create a game. GDevelop uses visual events and ready-made behaviors; Roblox Build turns a description into a Roblox prototype; Roblox Studio offers a broader creation environment with scripting tools; Unity’s AI assists inside a conventional game engine. An AI assistant in an editor does not make the underlying workflow no-code.

Your priority Tool to investigate What its official materials describe Key trade-off
Learn game logic visually and keep export options open GDevelop Drag-and-drop editing, no-code events, reusable behaviors, and desktop, web, and mobile export. Export and publishing allowances depend on the plan; check current terms.
Turn a written idea into a quick playable Roblox prototype Roblox Build Prompt creation, follow-up refinement, playtesting, and publishing to Roblox. It currently works best for simpler game types; access and usage limits apply.
Make a Roblox game with more editing control Roblox Studio 3D building, script editing, device emulation, playtesting, and AI-assisted editing. It is a broader editor that includes scripting capabilities, not a prompt-only no-code tool.
Use AI while learning a general-purpose engine Unity AI An in-editor assistant with Ask, Plan, and Agent modes, plus tools for code and scene work. The workflow is still Unity’s full engine workflow; the cited beta announcement requires Unity 6.0 or later.

These are documented workflows, not results from a hands-on comparison. Product documentation explains what each vendor says its tool can do; it does not establish which interface every beginner will find easiest.

GDevelop: visual no-code creation with multiple export paths

GDevelop is the clearest fit if your goal is to learn how a game works without starting by writing code. Its official site describes a visual drag-and-drop editor, a no-code event system for defining game behavior, and reusable behaviors. The same site describes the engine as supporting 2D and 3D games and offering packaging for desktop, web, and mobile. Those capabilities give you more destination options than a workflow that publishes only to one platform.

GDevelop also describes integrated AI that can help build a feature, answer questions, or start a game. That can support the visual workflow, but it does not guarantee that a generated feature will behave as intended: inspect changes and playtest the result.

Export and publishing limits vary by subscription plan. Before paying, compare the current allowances on GDevelop’s pricing page with the platforms and frequency you expect to use. The product page’s descriptions of features are vendor claims, not independent performance tests.

Roblox Build: prompt-to-prototype, with Roblox as the destination

Roblox Build is designed for a beginner who wants to describe a game, receive a playable result, refine it with more prompts, and playtest it. Roblox’s current guidance says it focuses on 2D and 2.5D creation and works best for simpler genres, including clickers, arcade games, collect-and-score games, side-scrollers, and puzzles. Roblox Support also describes Build as able to create 2D and 3D games, while noting that simpler types tend to work best. Taken together, that makes Build a reasonable place to try a small prototype—not a promise that a complex game can be produced reliably from a prompt.

Roblox’s Build guide advises creators to use clear, specific descriptions. For example, a clicker concept can spell out what the player taps and what upgrades they can buy, rather than asking for a vague “fun game.” After generation, refine one part at a time and playtest changes. AI generation is a starting point; the creator still needs to check whether the mechanics and experience match the intended design.

Build usage includes a daily free allowance; additional usage can be purchased with Robux. Roblox Support says playtesting does not consume AI usage. Availability depends on region, age eligibility, an account age check, and the supported device or app rollout, so access is not guaranteed for every account. Support documentation also describes an age-rating and discovery limitation for newly published Build games. Check current Roblox policies before publishing, particularly if you intend the game for younger players. Because Build’s scope and rollout are evolving, consult the Roblox Build documentation and Roblox Support for current details.

Roblox Studio: more control, more to learn

Studio is the fuller Roblox creation environment. Its documented features include drag-and-drop 3D world building, script editing, device emulation, and playtesting. Roblox’s AI Assistant can answer questions, modify the data model, work on scripts, and generate materials or textures. This makes Studio useful if you want to build more directly within Roblox and gradually work with the editor’s deeper capabilities.

Do not choose Studio on the assumption that AI removes the need to learn the environment. Its workflow includes scripting and broader editor concepts; it is distinct from Build’s prompt-first approach. See Roblox’s Studio and Assistant documentation for the available features.

Unity AI: assistance inside a conventional game engine

Unity’s May 5, 2026 announcement described its AI tools as an open beta for Unity 6.0 or later. It lists an in-editor assistant with Ask, Plan, and Agent modes, alongside an AI Gateway and MCP Server. Unity describes help with coding and scene work, but the creator is still using Unity’s engine and editor rather than a no-code game maker.

This is a better direction for someone willing to learn a full engine workflow, not someone seeking the shortest path from an idea to a playable game. Unity says Muse is a separate deprecated tool, so it should not be treated as the current Unity AI suite. Beta status and terms can change; check Unity’s May 5, 2026 Unity AI announcement and current product information before deciding.

Questions to answer before you start

  • What kind of game are you making? A small clicker or puzzle is a more natural fit for prompt-led prototyping than a complex game with many interconnected systems.
  • Where should players find it? Roblox Build publishes within Roblox. GDevelop describes desktop, web, and mobile export; confirm the limits for your plan and target platforms.
  • How do you want to learn? Visual events are different from an AI helper that assists with code inside an engine. Pick the workflow you are willing to understand and maintain.
  • What access or usage conditions apply? Check Roblox eligibility and usage rules, or the current plan limits for GDevelop and beta terms for Unity, before committing time or money.
  • Can you test and revise the result? Leave time to playtest, identify what does not work, and iterate. A generated starting point is not the same as a finished, well-tested game.
