For most WordPress site owners, the choice is between the WordPress app for everyday publishing and site administration, and the Jetpack app for those tasks plus Jetpack tools such as stats, notifications, activity logs, and security features. Choose one app for a site: official guidance warns that managing the same site through both is unsupported and may cause data conflicts.

Which WordPress mobile app should you choose?

Both apps cover core work such as posts, pages, media, comments, and site settings. The practical difference is whether you want Jetpack’s additional management features on your phone or tablet.

What can you manage from each app?

WordPress: core publishing and administration

The WordPress app is suited to the routine tasks many owners need away from a computer: create or edit posts and pages, upload media, respond to comments, and adjust site settings. WordPress.com support describes these capabilities for its mobile app and lists Android and iOS, including iPhone and iPad. WordPress.com mobile app support

Jetpack: publishing plus connected-site tools

Jetpack includes the publishing basics and adds tools for checking site activity and using Jetpack services. Its app description includes content creation and publishing, real-time notifications, stats, social sharing, and the WordPress Reader. The official feature comparison also lists Activity Log, Jetpack Backup, Jetpack Scan, menus, people, and themes. App feature comparison

These additions are useful when you want to monitor activity or access Jetpack services while mobile. They are not a reason to assume every feature is available at no cost: Jetpack identifies advanced features such as backups and malware scanning as paid-plan features. Plan packaging can change, so confirm current inclusion and terms before relying on a particular feature.

Does your site need the Jetpack plugin?

Yes, for Jetpack-specific tools in the mobile app. Official setup guidance says the site must be connected through the Jetpack plugin to use those features. WordPress.org describes the official mobile app as a way to manage Jetpack features from iOS and Android, while the setup guidance specifies the plugin connection. If you only need core publishing and administration, the WordPress app’s listed tasks may be enough. If you want Jetpack-specific stats, security, or other connected services, check that your site is connected and that your plan includes the features you intend to use.

How to choose and set up your mobile workflow

  1. Match the app to your tasks. Choose WordPress for core publishing and routine administration; choose Jetpack if you also want its connected-site tools.
  2. Check device availability. The official listings describe mobile apps for iOS and Android. WordPress.com support specifically names iPhone and iPad. Jetpack on WordPress.org WordPress.com mobile app support
  3. Connect Jetpack if you need its features. For Jetpack-only tools, follow Jetpack’s setup guidance to connect the site through the plugin. Jetpack mobile app setup guidance
  4. Use one app to manage a given site. Official support says using both apps for the same site is unsupported and may lead to data conflicts. Pick the app you want and remove the other from that site’s workflow. Jetpack mobile app setup guidance
