You still need to verify looping, audio continuity, sleep settings, and recovery on your own setup. Prepare a reliable local setup
A Mac-hosted stream depends on the Mac, OBS, and your network staying available. Before relying on it, verify in the OBS version you install that the selected media source or playlist repeats the way you intend, that audio continues through transitions, and that macOS will not sleep or interrupt the connection. These are checks to perform on your setup, not guaranteed behaviors established by the cited OBS help page. OBS’s Help Portal is available for troubleshooting.

Configure YouTube’s encoder settings
Prepare the stream in YouTube Live Control Room, then configure the encoder to match YouTube’s published requirements. YouTube detects encoder settings by default; manual resolution and frame-rate settings are available when using a custom stream key. Follow the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
- Protocol: Use RTMPS when supported. YouTube recommends it; Google describes it as RTMP tunneled through SSL. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Video codec: H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1.
- Audio codec: AAC or MP3.
- Rate control: Constant bitrate (CBR).
- Frame rate: Up to 60 fps.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a 2-second interval and says it should not exceed 4 seconds.
Choose a bitrate for your format
Bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. For 1080p at 30 fps, YouTube’s current settings table lists these values:

These are YouTube’s published ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of quality or a measurement of your connection. The figures cover video bitrate, not all household bandwidth needs. Allow upload headroom and account for other network use; a connection that only just reaches the listed video rate may not be dependable.
Test the stream before leaving it unattended
- Prepare a short test using representative motion and audio from the video you plan to loop.
- Start the encoder and review YouTube’s preview before beginning the intended broadcast.
- Check stream health and listen for missing, clipped, or interrupted audio; watch for visual artifacts or dropped frames.
- Confirm the chosen media source reaches its end and starts again as intended. Check that audio remains present across the transition.
- Leave the Mac and network in the conditions you expect for the real stream, and confirm sleep or other interruptions do not stop it.
YouTube advises testing, checking the preview, and monitoring stream quality. Its guidance does not certify a Mac, encoder, internet provider, or playlist as capable of running indefinitely. A prerecorded loop is still a live stream hosted on YouTube. The content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Make sure you have the necessary rights to the video, music, and other material you broadcast. Running a stream continuously does not, by itself, establish eligibility for monetization; do not assume that a 24/7 loop qualifies.
