MacBook Neo: for basic everyday use
Macworld describes the Neo as Apple’s least expensive laptop, with an A18 Pro chip, 8GB memory and 256GB SSD in its base configuration. It is aimed at students, first-time Mac buyers and everyday tasks such as browsing, documents, streaming and video calls. Macworld’s suggested good U.S. price is $649 or less; at the reported $690, the saving is only $9 from MSRP. Macworld’s view is that a somewhat more expensive Air may be the better long-term buy for many people. That is buying guidance from Macworld, not a hands-on test presented here.

MacBook Air: the general-purpose laptop choice
Macworld recommends the M5 Air for most people. It reports post-June starting prices of $1,299 for the 13-inch model and $1,499 for the 15-inch. In its assessment, a discount of $100 or more is worth considering. Its historical price comparisons are about $900/£989 for the entry 13-inch Air and $1,100/£1,169 for the 15-inch; those are reported prior lows, not a forecast or guarantee of a repeat price. The current offers are different configurations in some cases, so compare chip, screen size, memory and storage before using a past low as a benchmark. Macworld’s price guidance and deal history
MacBook Pro: pay for the capability you need
The lineup includes 14- and 16-inch models with M5, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. A Pro makes sense when your workload or chosen configuration needs that class of machine; otherwise, compare the Air at the same screen-size and storage level before paying more. The reported Pro deals differ in chip, memory and storage, and the U.K. 14-inch listing has an unresolved chip label, so the headline discount alone cannot establish which is the better value. Macworld mentions a rumored redesign, but there is no confirmed announcement in the cited material; do not base a purchase decision on that rumor. Macworld’s Mac deal roundup

Mac mini: desktop value depends on what you already own
The Mac mini is a desktop, so include the cost of any display, keyboard, mouse and other peripherals you still need. Macworld reports September launches for M6 and M5 Pro models, with starting prices of $899/£899 for M6 and $1,699/£1,699 for M5 Pro. It expects discounts on newer models to be modest and older M4/M4 Pro stock to be discounted; that is Macworld’s expectation, not a confirmed sale outcome. Macworld’s Mac deal roundup

How to check whether a deal is genuinely good
- Match the exact configuration. Compare chip, screen size, memory and storage. A discount on a different configuration is not a like-for-like price comparison.
- Check the reference price. Compare the sale price with the stated current MSRP/RRP and, where available, historical pricing for that exact listing. Amazon says its Price History link can show up to 365 days of pricing insights on covered product pages; it does not say every Mac listing has that data. Amazon’s FAQ on Price History
- Recheck the listing during the event. Amazon says new “Today’s Big Deals” drop at midnight, 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. PDT during the event. Availability and pricing can change, so check the product page rather than relying on an earlier snapshot. Amazon’s event announcement
- Factor in membership and location. Prime is required for event deals. Amazon’s FAQ lists U.S. membership at $14.99 per month or $139 per year, with eligibility-dependent discounted options and trials; verify current terms before signing up. The announced event covers 22 countries, but dates may vary by country, and the prices here cover only U.S. and U.K. listings. Amazon’s event FAQ Amazon’s event announcement
