The right choice depends on your encoder, output settings, scene, cooling, network, and recovery plan. OBS warns that basic system compatibility does not guarantee streaming performance (OBS system requirements).
Is an Intel N100 mini PC enough for 24/7 OBS streaming?
It may suit a modest scene, but a processor name alone cannot establish whether a particular machine will handle your stream continuously. A static scene with one prerecorded video is a very different workload from several capture devices, browser overlays, filters, and other applications. OBS says requirements vary with encoder, output resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity.
A third-party iTechGuides article dated August 7, 2026 asserts that an N100 mini PC can encode 1080p60 with CPU headroom, but the material available does not provide reproducible benchmark details. Treat that as an unverified claim, not a buying guarantee. No specific mini PC model has been established as the best choice.
What to check before choosing a mini PC
Encoder and operating system
Look for a hardware encoder your intended OBS installation can actually use. OBS documents Intel Quick Sync Video support on Windows and Linux, as well as NVIDIA NVENC and AMD AMF options. Check the exact computer, operating system, drivers, and installed OBS version: the presence of a processor or graphics brand does not by itself confirm that the expected encoder is available. See OBS hardware encoding.

Do not choose CPU-based software encoding on the assumption that a low-power processor will manage it. Use it only if the machine has demonstrated adequate headroom while running your real scene and output settings.
Cooling, ports, and serviceability
For any shortlisted SKU, confirm its RAM and storage configuration, operating system, cooling design, ports for every capture device, Ethernet availability, warranty, and support. The available evidence establishes no particular model’s thermal behavior or long-duration reliability. A short successful stream cannot prove sustained operation.

Featuring 1x HDMI 2.0 port, 1x DisplayPort, and 1x Full-Function Type-C port, the E5 outputs true 4K@60Hz resolution to three monitors at once. This multi-screen setup eliminates constant window-switching for traders, programmers, and office workers.
- 【Dual 2.5GbE LAN Ports for Advanced Networking】 Experience fast wired network transmission speeds up to 2500Mbps without lagging or buffering. The integration of dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports (powered by Realtek RTL8125 controller) makes this compact computer an exceptional hardware choice for tech enthusiasts. Easily configure it into software routers, hardware firewalls (pfSense, OpnSense), home NAS servers, or local homelabs.
Network connection
Prefer wired Ethernet when the computer and router support it. YouTube recommends a reliable stream quality for the connection and advises testing the upload bitrate and stream. Its published video bitrate targets are not the same as the total upload speed your connection needs: allow capacity beyond the video bitrate and account for other network use. The YouTube guidance does not establish a universal amount of extra headroom for every connection.
Set the OBS workload to match YouTube
Choose output resolution and frame rate based on what the PC can sustain, then select the matching codec and bitrate row in YouTube’s live encoder settings. For H.264, YouTube’s guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, recommends these video bitrates:

| Output | YouTube H.264 recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
YouTube also recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), frame rates up to 60 fps, and RTMPS. These are encoder settings and video bitrate recommendations, not a guarantee of stable delivery over a particular internet connection. Use the YouTube row for your chosen output rather than applying the 1080p figures to other resolutions or frame rates.
Test the exact stream before leaving it unattended
- Build the real scene. Include the sources, audio, browser overlays, filters, and applications you intend to run. A simplified test scene will not reveal the load of the finished setup.
- Set the intended output. Select your actual resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, keyframe interval, and YouTube connection method.
- Start with OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard. OBS recommends it as a starting point; review and test its choices against your actual workload rather than treating them as a guarantee.
- Run an extended representative test. Monitor dropped frames, rendering lag, encoding lag, temperatures, and whether the stream remains stable. The sources provide no universal test duration that guarantees round-the-clock reliability.
- Test interruption and recovery. Check what happens after a network loss, OBS restart, power interruption, or system update. Plan how you will regain access and resume the stream; do not assume the PC or YouTube will recover unattended.
If OBS struggles, reduce output resolution or frame rate, or simplify scenes, browser sources, and filters. Those changes can reduce resource demand, but validate the resulting stream quality and stability again. See OBS encoding performance troubleshooting.

What can go wrong during continuous operation?
- Encoding or rendering lag: the scene or output may exceed available resources. Reduce resolution or frame rate, remove unnecessary sources or filters, and retest.
- Dropped frames: check the network path and upload stability; the recommended video bitrate alone does not ensure a reliable connection.
- Encoder unavailable in OBS: verify the selected operating system, drivers, and OBS installation expose the hardware encoder you intend to use.
- Stream stops after power, network, or software interruption: test restart and reconnection behavior in advance and arrange monitoring or a way to intervene. A mini PC category does not establish automatic recovery.
- Performance worsens over time: investigate sustained-load temperatures and cooling rather than relying on a brief test. No specific model’s continuous thermal performance is established here.
Account for the whole cost, not just the PC
Compare whole-system electricity use by measuring wall power in the intended idle and streaming states. No dependable, comparable power measurement for a recommended mini PC is established here, so a monthly electricity cost cannot responsibly be quoted. Include the computer, any capture hardware, networking, and the cost of providing stable power and connectivity when comparing setups.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your stream is prerecorded video that does not need live local composition, StreamNeo is an alternative to keeping an OBS PC on: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Its cloud service loops uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not go live from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- One flat price per slot covers the uploaded quality, up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; one free day per account.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
