Check the input and connector first: a 3.5 mm TRS lav can suit a compatible camera input or wireless transmitter, while a USB-C lav connects directly only when the device and app support USB audio. If you need to move without a cable running to your device, choose a wireless microphone system with a receiver rather than a standalone wired lav.
The models below are manufacturer-documented examples, not a side-by-side sound test or a ranking by audio quality. Confirm the complete connection path before buying.
Choose wired or wireless for your streaming setup
Choose a wired lavalier if
- You can stay near the camera, computer, or transmitter, and the cable length works for your setup.
- You want a microphone that plugs directly into a compatible input without adding a wireless receiver.
- Your phone or computer supports the lav’s specific connection, such as USB-C audio input.
Choose a wireless system if
- You need to move around without a cable running from the microphone to the streaming device.
- You can connect the system’s receiver to your phone, camera, or computer and select it as the audio input.
- You are prepared to check the receiver’s cable or adapter requirements as well as the mic’s connection to its transmitter.
A lavalier’s connector does not tell you everything about compatibility. A 3.5 mm plug may be TRS or TRRS, and a locking 3.5 mm connector may not fit or lock into every jack. USB-C is a physical connector, not a guarantee that every device and livestream app will recognize a microphone through it.
Compare compatible lavalier and wireless options
| Option | Connection and documented fit | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| RØDE Lavalier GO | Wired, omnidirectional lavalier with a 3.5 mm TRS connector, designed for Wireless GO transmitters and other compatible TRS microphone inputs. RØDE product details. | Confirm the device or transmitter accepts a TRS microphone input. A phone or computer may need a suitable adapter or a different connection path. |
| RØDE Lavalier II | Low-profile, omnidirectional lavalier with a locking 3.5 mm TRS connector and an accessory kit. RØDE lists livestreaming among its intended applications. RØDE product details. | Check both electrical compatibility and whether the transmitter or recording device accepts the locking connector. Do not assume it works with every 3.5 mm jack. |
| Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C | Wired, omnidirectional lavalier with a 2 m (6.6 ft) cable and USB-C connection for compatible mobile devices and computers. The package includes a clip, windscreen, and pouch. Sennheiser product details. | Verify that your specific device and livestream app recognize USB-C audio input. The connector alone does not establish app compatibility. |
| DJI Mic 2 | A wireless microphone system that DJI describes for livestreaming. It is a receiver-and-transmitter setup, not a like-for-like standalone lavalier capsule. DJI product details. | Identify the receiver connection method for your device, then select the receiver as the input in both the computer and streaming software where applicable. See DJI’s computer connection instructions. |
These examples establish connection types and manufacturer-stated uses, not a sound-quality winner. Choose among them by compatibility, cable versus wireless movement, mounting and wind protection, and the setup steps you are willing to manage.

Check the full connection path before you order
- Identify where the stream’s audio enters. Write down whether you are streaming from a phone, computer, camera, or a separate audio interface. If you use a wireless kit, identify the transmitter input for the lav and the receiver output for the streaming device.
- Match the connector type, not just its size. Check whether a 3.5 mm input expects TRS or TRRS. Confirm that any locking connector fits the particular transmitter or recording device.
- Work out phone adapters in advance. RØDE says that many of its camera microphones use TRS-to-TRS cabling for cameras or recorders, while mobile devices may require TRRS-to-TRS cabling. A phone without a 3.5 mm input also needs an appropriate USB-C or Lightning audio adapter. RØDE names SC4 and SC7 among supported cables; check its mobile-device connectivity guidance for the relevant setup.
- Verify device and app support. For a USB-C mic, confirm that both your device and the livestream app accept it as an audio input. For a wireless receiver, confirm the needed cable or adapter and how the device exposes the receiver to software.
- Check the physical setup. Make sure the cable reaches without pulling when you turn or move. Consider whether the clip suits your clothing and whether you need a windscreen for your environment. Included accessories vary by model.
Set and test the audio input before going live
Connect the microphone or receiver, then check the operating system’s selected microphone and the input selected in the streaming software. Do not rely on the connector being plugged in as proof that the intended microphone is active.
For DJI’s documented computer workflow, choose “Wireless Microphone RX” as the microphone input in the computer’s system settings and in the streaming or conference software. That label and procedure apply to the DJI setup described in its support instructions; other devices may use different names and steps.

Make a short private or unlisted test recording or stream where available. Speak at the distance and volume you expect to use, watch the software’s input meter, and listen back for clear voice, clothing rustle, cable noise, wind, or audio coming from the wrong microphone. Correct the selected input or mic placement before the public stream.
Troubleshoot common connection problems
- No input or no meter movement: Check that the connector is fully seated, the device recognizes the mic, and the operating system and streaming app both select the intended input. For a wireless system, check the receiver-to-device link as well as the mic-to-transmitter link.
- The phone does not recognize a 3.5 mm mic: Confirm TRS/TRRS requirements and use the appropriate TRRS-to-TRS cable where needed. If the phone lacks a 3.5 mm port, use an appropriate USB-C or Lightning audio adapter; a plug that physically fits does not guarantee the correct audio wiring.
- The locking plug will not connect: Do not force it. Check whether the specific transmitter or recording device accepts that locking connector and whether it can accommodate its locking mechanism.
- The computer records the wrong microphone: Select the intended input in both system audio settings and the streaming software. For the DJI computer workflow, DJI specifies “Wireless Microphone RX.”
- Voice sounds muffled, rubs against clothing, or picks up wind: Reposition the lav so it is not scraping against fabric, secure excess cable, and use a suitable windscreen when needed. Make another short test to check the result.
Or let it run in the cloud
A microphone handles audio capture; it does not keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running after your streaming computer is off. If your goal is to loop uploaded video 24/7 on YouTube, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not live camera footage.
