What to prioritize in a laptop for a 24/7 stream
Think of the laptop as one part of a chain: it must render and encode the scene, stay powered and cool, and send a steady stream to YouTube. A stronger GPU cannot compensate for an unreliable connection or a laptop that sleeps, overheats or loses power.
Processor, memory and storage
OBS’s Windows download page lists a dual-core processor and 4 GB RAM as minimum requirements, and recommends a quad-core processor for 1080p streaming and 8 GB RAM. Those are application requirements, not a guarantee of dependable unattended operation. For a new purchase, 16 GB RAM and a modern processor are sensible working targets if you expect OBS, a browser, monitoring tools and creator software to run together.

Use an SSD for the operating system, OBS and media files. Confirm that its capacity accommodates the recordings you plan to loop; storage needs depend on the size and duration of your own videos.
Hardware encoder support
A hardware encoder can move video-encoding work from the CPU to a specialized component in the GPU. OBS documents NVIDIA NVENC, AMD AMF, Intel Quick Sync and Apple VideoToolbox. Check the exact laptop GPU or processor, its current driver support and the encoder options visible in your OBS installation before buying.
For NVIDIA, OBS identifies GeForce 750 Ti/900-series or newer as supported and says Turing-generation hardware—including GTX 1650 revision 2 and higher—is preferred for best results. This is OBS’s encoder guidance, not a promise that a particular laptop will sustain a 24/7 stream.
A concrete laptop example—and what it does not prove
Lenovo India lists the LOQ 15IRX9 configuration with Intel Core i5, 24 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD and RTX 4050 6 GB. Those specifications offer headroom for editing, complex scenes or other GPU-heavy work. For a static or lightly animated ASMR scene, the available guidance does not show that an RTX 4050 is required.
Do not treat this configuration as a tested winner: no comparative laptop test, continuous-load thermal result, current price or confirmed current Amazon India listing is established here. Before purchasing any model, compare the exact SKU and check its cooling design, warranty and repair access in India, encoder support, wired-network options and total price against your budget.
Set YouTube and OBS to a rate your connection can sustain
YouTube recommends measuring available upload bitrate, choosing settings to match the connection, testing before the event and monitoring stream health. Its recommendations apply across regions; they are not India-only rates. The following H.264 values are YouTube’s published recommendations for the specified resolutions and frame rates.

Use these figures as starting points, not as a substitute for checking your actual connection. A quiet, stationary ASMR visual may put less demand on the encoder than fast movement, but that is not a platform guarantee. Test the chosen picture and audio settings with representative content and check YouTube’s stream health before leaving a broadcast unattended.
Key settings to check
- Rate control: Set CBR, as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframe interval: Set two seconds. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Ingest protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- Bitrate: Choose the YouTube recommendation for your resolution and frame rate only if your measured upload connection can sustain it.
- Encoder: Select a supported hardware encoder where available, then confirm the resulting stream is stable and looks and sounds right.

Prepare the laptop for continuous operation
A laptop-based broadcast depends on the whole installation remaining available. Before relying on it, run a representative test stream that includes the actual audio, visuals, looping behavior and stream-key setup. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Keep an eye on stream health during the event, particularly after changing the network, encoder or content.
- Set sleep and lid-close behavior intentionally so the laptop does not suspend the broadcast.
- Keep vents unobstructed and place the machine where it can dissipate heat during sustained use.
- Use stable power and decide whether local backup power is appropriate for your installation.
- Prefer a dependable network connection; consider whether a wired connection or an alternate internet path is practical for your location.
- Plan how you will regain access and restart OBS or the stream after a software, internet or power interruption.
