If “reliable” means a premium phone that stays supported and usable for years, the Samsung Galaxy S26 and Google Pixel 10 Pro are the Android flagships to compare with an iPhone. The Galaxy S26 has the clearest published support commitment in the available evidence: Samsung says it will receive seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from its global launch. That is a support policy, not proof of fewer hardware failures.
No cited source establishes that either phone breaks less often than a current iPhone. Compare support duration, dated ratings, repair access, warranty and carrier terms separately before switching.
What “reliable” means when choosing a flagship
Reliability can describe several different things, and evidence for one does not prove another. A long update commitment tells you how long the manufacturer says it will provide software support. A durability rating is a publisher’s assessment under its own scoring method. Repair access and warranty terms affect how manageable a fault may be. A comparative failure rate would require comparable, model-level data collected over time.

How to compare support, ratings and service
1. Compare the support commitment for the exact model
Look for the promised duration and scope of both operating-system upgrades and security updates. Samsung’s published commitment is stated for the Galaxy S26 series and counted from global launch. Do not assume another model, regional variant or manufacturer has the same terms. For a Pixel or iPhone, verify the policy that applies to the specific model you intend to buy.
2. Treat ratings as dated assessments, not failure-rate forecasts
Consumer Reports’ smartphone ratings sheet is labeled “as of May 2026” and separates categories such as brand reliability, display, durability, performance and overall score. Those categories can help frame a comparison, but a rating is not the same as a measured model-level failure rate. The cited material does not establish a comparative failure rate for these three phones, so do not infer one from a brand rating.

3. Check repair access and the terms that apply where you live
Before switching, find out where the phone can be repaired in your country, what warranty coverage applies, and whether your carrier supports the model and its network bands. A support promise is less useful if service is inconvenient or the model you buy is not a good fit for your carrier. Confirm these details with the manufacturer, seller and carrier for the exact device and region.

Once support and service are acceptable, compare size, camera features and other hardware preferences. Google’s Pixel 10 Pro comparison with iPhone 17 Pro is useful as a product comparison, but its specifications are dated to September 9, 2025; verify current details before relying on them for a purchase decision.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy S26 for a clearly stated support horizon. Samsung’s seven-generation OS and seven-year security commitment is the strongest documented reason in this comparison to shortlist it for long-term use. It does not show that the phone has a lower hardware failure rate.
- Consider the Pixel 10 Pro if you want Google’s premium Android alternative. Google directly positions it against iPhone 17 Pro, but check current specifications and local support conditions before deciding.
- Do not switch solely on the assumption that Android is more reliable. Apple says iOS 26 supports iPhone 11 and later, so compare your exact iPhone’s support horizon with the Android model you would buy rather than treating a platform change as an automatic longevity upgrade.
What the manufacturer design claims can—and cannot—tell you
Samsung says the Galaxy S26’s thermal management and performance are designed to sustain demanding workloads. The company’s CEO, President and Head of Device eXperience Division, TM Roh, described Samsung’s AI goal this way: “We believe AI should be something people can depend on every day, designed to work consistently for everyone and without the need for expertise.” These statements describe design aims and intended performance; they are not independent evidence of a lower failure rate.
