Home Assistant Green is the best HomeView alternative for most European households that use products from several brands and want local control. It can work with existing Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings and Amazon Alexa setups, while local integrations can continue operating when the internet is unavailable. Choose Google Nest Hub Max if your home already revolves around Google Home, Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) if Alexa is your main platform, or Homey Pro if you want a premium multi-brand bridge.
Apple describes HomeView as a central Apple Home and Matter control centre that combines device management, entertainment and connection on a display. The alternatives below match different parts of that proposition rather than reproducing every feature in one product. Your choice depends on ecosystem, local-versus-cloud operation, device protocols, display and voice needs, automation depth, privacy expectations and verified European availability.
What HomeView does, and what an alternative must replace
Apple positions HomeView as a central smart-home hub and display for Apple Home and Matter accessories. Its purpose is to bring compatible lights, thermostats, locks, blinds and cameras into one Apple Home experience while also providing entertainment features. That combination matters: a replacement can be an excellent controller without being a like-for-like screen, or a strong display without offering the same breadth of local automation.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Ecosystem fit: Is your household mainly Apple, Google, Alexa, Samsung SmartThings or a mixture?
- Control path: Which actions can run locally, and which stop working when a cloud service or internet connection is unavailable?
- Protocol support: Does the system handle the Matter devices you own, and do you also need Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread or ESPHome?
- Interaction: Do you need a dedicated display and voice control, or is a phone, tablet or wall dashboard sufficient?
- Automation: Can it express the schedules, conditions and cross-brand scenes you actually want?
- Privacy and maintenance: Are you comfortable with cloud accounts, vendor updates and remote services?
- European practicalities: Can you buy the model, accessories and replacement parts in your country at a price you can verify today?
No single option wins every category. Matter improves portability, but support for individual device types and features can arrive at different times on different platforms.

1. Home Assistant Green: the strongest mixed-brand alternative
Why it is the leading choice
Home Assistant’s official Green page documents compatibility with existing Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings and Amazon Alexa setups. That makes it the clearest choice when your home contains products from several ecosystems and you do not want to rebuild everything around one vendor.
The more important distinction is control location. Home Assistant’s FAQ lists Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, Thread and ESPHome among local protocols that can operate without an internet connection. A cloud-dependent integration, however, cannot be reached during an outage. This gives Green a meaningful privacy and resilience advantage when your devices and integrations support local operation.
What you gain
- One automation layer for devices that would otherwise live in separate vendor apps.
- Compatibility with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, SmartThings and Alexa installations already in place.
- Local operation for supported Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, Thread and ESPHome devices.
- A path to retain cloud services only where a device or integration genuinely requires them.
What you give up
Green is not primarily an Apple-style entertainment display. The trade-off for broader control and local resilience is a more configurable system. You should expect to choose integrations, name devices consistently, design dashboards and test automations rather than simply signing into one vendor account and accepting its defaults.
Who should buy it
Choose Home Assistant Green if you have mixed brands, care about keeping core automations available during an internet failure, or want to avoid making one assistant the centre of every device decision. It is also the most defensible choice for a household that may add Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, Thread or ESPHome devices over time.

2. Google Home and Nest Hub Max: the easiest Google-centred route
What Google documents
Google documents Matter control through the Google Home app, automations and voice commands, including control while you are at home or away. A current buying guide published by T3 lists Google Nest Hub Max among its recommended ecosystem hubs. For a household already using Google speakers, cameras or routines, this is the shortest path from an existing setup to a central screen.
Why it suits Google households
- The Home app provides a single place to add and organise compatible Matter devices.
- Automations let you connect device actions to schedules and conditions within the Google ecosystem.
- Voice commands are familiar to households already using Google Assistant-enabled products.
- Nest Hub Max supplies the dedicated display element that a phone-only setup lacks.
Important limits
Matter does not mean that every platform exposes every feature identically. A device may be controllable in one app while a newer device type, advanced setting or manufacturer-specific function is not yet available everywhere. Google also requires a Matter-enabled hub for Matter control, so confirm that the hub in your planned setup supports the devices you intend to add.
Google Home is therefore a strong HomeView substitute for people who value a polished display and already use Google services. It is a less obvious choice if your priority is deep local processing across many non-Google integrations.
3. Amazon Alexa and Echo Show 8 (4th Gen): the display-first Alexa option
Why it belongs on the shortlist
Tom’s Guide’s guide dated 23 September 2026 names the Amazon Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) its top overall smart-home hub pick, while describing Apple HomePod (2nd Gen) and Google Nest Hub Max as strong ecosystem choices. Echo Show 8 is consequently the most direct recommendation for a household that already uses Alexa and wants controls, routines and voice interaction on a screen.
Best use case
Echo Show works best when your lights, plugs, thermostats and other accessories are already connected to Alexa or are explicitly compatible with it. The display can make everyday controls easier for family members who do not want to open a phone app, while Alexa routines can handle common schedules and scenes.

Questions to settle before purchase
- Does each important device support the Alexa features you need, not merely basic on/off control?
- Which Matter device types are supported by your specific Alexa controller and in your region?
- Are you comfortable with the account and cloud services required for the features you plan to use?
- Does the Echo Show language and regional feature set suit every household member?
Alexa is a sensible HomeView alternative when convenience and a familiar display matter more than building a vendor-neutral local automation system. Mixed-platform owners should map their devices before assuming that Matter will remove every compatibility difference.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors4. Homey Pro: a premium bridge across ecosystems
What sets it apart
T3 reported on 29 July 2026 that Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini and Homey Self-Hosted Server achieved Matter 1.5 certification. The same report says they can bridge connected devices to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant. That makes Homey Pro attractive when you want one central automation layer while still exposing devices to several household platforms.
When the premium approach makes sense
- You want cross-platform bridging rather than choosing only Apple, Google or Alexa.
- You are prepared to verify protocol and device support for each important product.
- You value a consolidated automation experience and are willing to pay for a premium hub.
- You may need to present the same devices to more than one certified ecosystem.
Checks for European buyers
Confirm EU stock, the exact model, pricing, power requirements, supported device types and the availability of any required accessories before ordering. Certification is not a guarantee that every Matter feature or every manufacturer-specific function is exposed identically in every connected platform.
How Matter changes the choice
Matter is a portability layer, not a universal feature guarantee
Google says Matter devices can be controlled simultaneously from multiple certified apps, including Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Amazon Alexa, when a Matter-enabled hub is present. This multi-platform model is useful for a household that wants to change assistants later or let different family members use different apps.
However, platform support for device types can arrive at different times. A Matter light may work across several apps while a newer sensor, lock function or manufacturer-specific setting is limited to one platform. Treat the Matter logo as a starting point, then verify the exact device type, controller requirement and feature list for your intended apps.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
What you need for a multi-platform setup
- Choose a Matter-compatible device and record its exact device category and required commissioning method.
- Confirm that your chosen hub or controller supports that category and the platforms you want to use.
- Add the device in the manufacturer’s documented flow, then commission or share it with each certified platform you intend to operate.
- Test basic control, automations, remote access and any critical safety function in every app before relying on it.
- Keep a note of which platform owns each automation so that removing one account does not silently disable an important routine.
Thread is a separate consideration
Matter can run over more than one network technology. If a product uses Thread, you need the appropriate Thread-capable border-router arrangement in addition to a Matter controller. Do not assume that buying any display or speaker automatically supplies every required radio or network role; check the controller specifications for the exact model.
Choosing by household type
You already use Apple Home
If your accessories are mostly HomeKit-compatible and you mainly want a central display, compare the Google and Alexa displays only if you are willing to add another ecosystem. Home Assistant Green is more compelling when Apple devices must coexist with Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, Thread or non-Apple products. Homey Pro is the premium option when those devices must also be exposed to Google, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant.
You already use Google Home
Nest Hub Max is the least disruptive choice because it keeps your existing app, routines and voice habits. Consider Green when local operation, unusual integrations or brand diversity matters more than the simplest setup.
You already use Alexa
Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) is the natural display choice. Move toward Home Assistant Green or Homey Pro if Alexa is only one of several platforms in the house, or if you need automations that span protocols and vendors.

Begin with an inventory rather than a screen. List every device, its protocol, the app currently controlling it, whether it supports Matter, and whether a local integration exists. Green is usually the strongest starting point for this situation; Homey Pro is the premium alternative when bridging to multiple ecosystems is a central requirement.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
You prioritise outage resilience and privacy
Home Assistant Green has the clearest documented local-control advantage. Home Assistant states that supported local protocols can continue without internet access, while cloud-dependent integrations cannot. Test the exact devices you depend on, because a local-capable hub does not make a cloud-only accessory local.
Setup and migration checklist
Before buying
- Export or record device names, rooms, routines and scenes from your current platform.
- Identify locks, alarms, heating controls and cameras that require special permissions or remote services.
- Check whether each device uses Matter, Thread, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or a proprietary cloud integration.
- Confirm the controller requirements for the device types you plan to add next.
- Verify current European stock, warranty coverage, plug or power requirements, language support and total cost.
During migration
- Keep the existing hub and automations running while you add the new controller.
- Move one room or device category at a time, starting with low-risk lights or plugs.
- Use clear, unique names and room assignments so voice commands are not ambiguous.
- Recreate schedules and scenes only after basic manual control succeeds.
- Test local operation by temporarily disconnecting internet access where it is safe to do so.
- Test remote access separately; a system can work locally while remote control remains cloud-dependent.
- Leave safety-critical routines on the platform that demonstrably performs them reliably.
Common failure modes and fixes
A Matter device appears in one app but not another
Check that the second app supports the device category, that a compatible Matter controller is present, and that the device has been shared or commissioned to that platform. A Matter label alone does not guarantee identical feature support.
Automations stop during an internet outage
Determine whether the device and its integration are local or cloud-dependent. Home Assistant’s FAQ explicitly distinguishes local protocols from cloud integrations. Replace or supplement cloud-only devices if an offline routine is essential.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Voice commands control the wrong device
Use unique names, avoid duplicate room labels and review which platform currently owns the voice assistant integration. Multi-platform households should decide which assistant is the default for each room.
A bridge exposes only basic controls
Compare the supported device type and feature set in both the bridge and the destination platform. Certification or general compatibility may cover on/off control without exposing every sensor attribute, lock mode or manufacturer-specific setting.
The chosen model is unavailable in your country
Do not substitute a similarly named regional model without checking radios, power, language support and Matter-controller functions. European pricing and stock change frequently, so verify the seller and warranty at the time of purchase.
Verdict
For most readers seeking a genuine alternative to Apple HomeView in Europe, choose Home Assistant Green when mixed-brand compatibility, local control and resilience matter most. Choose Google Home with Nest Hub Max for a Google household that wants the simplest display-led experience, or Alexa with Echo Show 8 (4th Gen) for an Alexa-first home. Choose Homey Pro when premium cross-platform bridging is worth the extra verification and cost.
Whichever route you take, treat Matter as an interoperability aid rather than a promise of identical features everywhere. Confirm the exact controller, protocol, device type, local-versus-cloud behaviour and European availability before replacing a working HomeView or committing to a new hub.
