There are no trustworthy launch benchmarks or final per-setting recommendations for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis yet. The game is unreleased, and its published PC requirements do not state a tested resolution or frame-rate target. Use the Low preset at 1920×1080 as a starting point on a minimum-tier computer, disable ray tracing if the option appears, and reduce shadows, volumetrics, reflections and foliage before sacrificing geometry or texture quality. On a recommended-tier system, start at 1080p High and increase resolution or quality only after checking frame-time stability. These are sensible starting profiles based on the listed hardware, not measured FPS results.

What is known before launch

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is an Unreal Engine 5 reimagining developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog and published by Amazon Game Studios. Steam lists a Windows 10/11 64-bit version with an official PC release date of February 12, 2027. Because the game has not launched, there is no verified review benchmark, final graphics-menu capture, confirmed upscaler list, confirmed ray-tracing implementation, or GPU-by-GPU FPS data to use as a definitive settings guide.

The advice in this article therefore separates published requirements from practical tuning decisions. A setting described as a good first choice is not a promise that a particular card will reach a specific frame rate. Recheck the game’s release build, driver notes and performance patches when the PC version is available.

Published PC requirements

The two published tiers are useful for judging image-quality headroom, but they are not performance tests. Both list 16 GB of system memory and 80 GB of storage. The largest difference is the graphics card class, which determines how much resolution, lighting and frame-time consistency you can reasonably expect.

The minimum graphics cards are not interchangeable in every workload: their architecture, driver behavior and available video memory differ. Treat the table as a qualification threshold, not a guarantee that every card will behave identically.

Best starting profile for a minimum-tier PC

A computer close to the listed minimum should prioritize a stable frame time over maximum texture detail. Begin at 1920×1080 with the Low preset. If the game offers a separate resolution scale or an upscaler, leave the output at 1080p and use the lowest-cost quality option that still produces a readable image. The exact upscaler names and modes have not been published, so choose from the options actually present in your release build.

Apply the baseline in this order

  1. Select Low. This establishes a conservative baseline without requiring you to guess which individual options are expensive.
  2. Set 1920×1080 output. Do not begin by lowering the monitor’s desktop resolution; use the game’s display or resolution-scale controls so the interface remains predictable.
  3. Turn off ray tracing if it is available. Its presence and exact controls are not confirmed, but optional hardware-ray-traced effects are normally among the first features to disable when operating near minimum requirements.
  4. Choose the least demanding upscaling mode available. Test one scene with camera movement, foliage and lighting. Keep the mode only if text and geometry remain usable.
  5. Reduce shadows, volumetric effects, reflections and foliage density. These settings commonly affect GPU work and scene complexity more than texture resolution. Lower them before reducing geometry detail or textures.
  6. Keep textures within available VRAM. The requirements identify 8 GB for the GTX 1070, but do not publish a game-specific VRAM target. If a texture setting causes hitching or visible asset-streaming pauses, step it down rather than assuming average FPS is the only issue.
  7. Play a representative section before changing anything else. Traverse, combat and effects-heavy scenes can stress different parts of the renderer. Change one option at a time and watch for recurring stutter, not just the highest instantaneous FPS.

If 1080p Low remains unstable, lower the game’s internal resolution or use a more aggressive upscaling mode before cutting textures and geometry to their minimum. A softer 1080p image with consistent frame delivery is generally more playable than a sharper image that repeatedly hitches.

Best starting profile for a recommended-tier PC

With an RTX 3080- or RX 6800 XT-class graphics card and one of the recommended processors, begin at 1920×1080 on High. This is a starting point, not a prescribed final configuration. Check frame-time behavior during traversal and combat, then raise output resolution or individual quality settings in small steps.

How to spend the extra GPU headroom

  • Raise resolution first if High at 1080p is comfortably stable. A higher output resolution can improve clarity more consistently than maxing every secondary effect.
  • Increase shadows, reflections and volumetrics selectively. These options can consume considerable GPU time; raise one, test a repeatable scene, and keep the change only if frame delivery remains smooth.
  • Keep textures high when VRAM allows. No official VRAM target has been published, so use in-game warnings, hitching and texture-streaming behavior as practical indicators rather than treating the card’s total memory as a guaranteed requirement.
  • Leave ray tracing off until the rasterized profile is stable. If the release includes ray tracing, enable it only after establishing a baseline and then test its individual effects. There is no launch measurement showing the cost on either recommended GPU.
  • Use an upscaler only when it solves a real workload problem. At 1080p, aggressive reconstruction can make fine geometry look soft. At a higher output resolution, a quality-oriented mode may offer a better clarity/performance balance, but the available modes are not yet documented.

Which settings to lower first

The final menu may use different labels, so apply this as a priority order rather than assuming every option will exist. Keep changes reversible and record the previous value.

Priority Setting group Why change it What to watch for
1 Ray tracing Optional advanced lighting can be expensive near minimum hardware. Large frame-time spikes, especially in reflective or heavily lit areas.
2 Volumetrics Fog, clouds and light shafts can add substantial per-frame work. GPU utilization and sudden drops in misty or smoky scenes.
3 Shadows Shadow resolution and distance affect many objects at once. Smearing, shimmering or a major improvement when moving through open areas.
4 Reflections Screen-space or ray-traced reflections may require additional scene calculations. Water, polished floors and windowed environments.
5 Foliage density and view distance More vegetation increases draw calls and overdraw. Outdoor traversal and camera pans through dense vegetation.
6 Anti-aliasing or upscaling quality Changes the internal render cost while preserving the selected output resolution. Shimmering, ghosting and loss of fine detail.
7 Geometry quality Reduces object complexity and distant detail. Noticeable pop-in or simplified surfaces.
8 Texture quality Primarily affects memory use and asset streaming rather than raw shader cost. Blurrier surfaces, texture pop-in or hitching when VRAM is pressured.

This order is a troubleshooting heuristic, not an official optimization ranking. A particular scene or driver can make one category more important than another.

Resolution, upscaling and image quality

Keep the display output at the resolution you intend to use, then adjust internal resolution or upscaling if the game exposes those controls. On a minimum-tier PC, 1080p Low is the sensible first test because it matches the common resolution associated with minimum-class hardware without claiming a guaranteed result. On a recommended-tier PC, 1080p High gives you room to test higher output resolutions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Upscaling trades internal render resolution for reconstructed output. A lower-cost mode can improve frame time but may introduce softness, ghost trails or shimmering. Since the game’s upscaler names, quality presets and implementation are not published, avoid guides that prescribe a specific technology or percentage before launch. Evaluate readability of subtitles, distant geometry and moving foliage in your own build.

Do not use a single average FPS reading as the sole decision rule. A setting that produces a high average but frequent long frames can feel worse than a lower average with consistent delivery. If the game supplies a frame-time graph, use it; otherwise, repeat the same traversal route and look for visible hitching and uneven camera motion.

What FPS can you expect?

No reliable number can be given yet. Steam’s requirement listing does not publish a tested resolution or frame rate, and PCGamesN notes that the publisher has not stated expected targets for either tier. A general industry expectation that minimum specifications often correspond to 1080p/30 fps is not a Crystal Dynamics test result and must not be presented as a guarantee for Legacy of Atlantis.

Your eventual result will depend on the release build, driver version, background load, display resolution, chosen effects, upscaling mode and the specific scene. Until independent launch testing exists, use the two profiles above as starting points and judge success by stable frame delivery in the areas you actually play.

Can a GTX 1060 run Legacy of Atlantis?

A GTX 1060 is below the published minimum GPU tier. The listed minimum begins at a GTX 1070 with 8 GB, an RTX 2060 Super or an RX 5700. Because no launch benchmark or final optimization data exists, there is no defensible claim that a GTX 1060 will provide a playable experience.

If you own a GTX 1060 and intend to test the game anyway, use the lowest preset, disable any ray tracing, select the lowest available internal resolution or upscaling mode, and reduce shadows, volumetrics, reflections and foliage first. Treat this as an experiment outside the stated requirements, not a supported target. Monitor for out-of-memory errors, severe hitching and unacceptable image quality; upgrading to at least the published minimum GPU class is the more predictable route.

System preparation before changing game settings

  1. Confirm the operating system. The listing requires 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  2. Install current GPU drivers. Launch-day driver updates can contain game-specific fixes, but do not assume an update will overcome hardware below minimum.
  3. Close unnecessary applications and overlays. With 16 GB RAM listed for both tiers, browsers, recording tools and launchers can reduce available memory and contribute to hitching.
  4. Reserve storage space. The game lists 80 GB. Keep additional free capacity for patches and temporary installation files rather than filling the drive to the limit.
  5. Prefer an SSD when practical. An SSD is not listed as mandatory; its benefit is faster loading and potentially less unpleasant asset-streaming waits, not a guaranteed increase in rendering FPS.
  6. Use a repeatable test route. Compare one change at a time in the same type of traversal, combat or effects-heavy scene.

Diagnosing common problems

Low FPS but smooth frame delivery

Lower volumetrics, shadows, reflections and foliage, then test an upscaler or internal-resolution reduction. If GPU usage is consistently high, these changes are more relevant than closing a single background application.

Stutter when entering new areas

Check texture quality and available VRAM first, then confirm that the game is installed on a drive with adequate free space. An SSD may improve loading behavior, but it is not a listed requirement and cannot be treated as a guaranteed fix.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Image looks blurry after optimization

Use a less aggressive upscaling mode or raise internal resolution. Restore texture and geometry quality before raising expensive lighting effects if surface detail is the priority.

Settings reset after an update

Reapply the baseline profile and retest. A patch can change defaults or introduce new options, and pre-launch guidance cannot predict the final menu layout.

Performance varies sharply between scenes

Do not tune only in a quiet corridor. Check an outdoor foliage-heavy route, a combat encounter and an area with strong reflections or volumetrics. Keep the profile that avoids the worst frame-time spikes, even if a lighter scene reports a higher average.

How to choose between Low and High

Choose Low first when… Choose High first when…
Your GPU is near GTX 1070, RTX 2060 Super or RX 5700 class. Your GPU is near RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT class.
You need to protect frame-time consistency at 1080p. You want to test higher resolution after a stable 1080p baseline.
VRAM pressure, hitching or heavy outdoor scenes are the problem. You have headroom to raise shadows, reflections or volumetrics one at a time.
You are testing hardware below the published minimum. You are using the recommended CPU and GPU tiers with 16 GB RAM.

Do not confuse graphics settings with gameplay difficulty. TechRadar reports that the game has independent combat, puzzle and traversal difficulty controls, so changing visual quality does not determine how demanding the game’s challenges are.

What to revisit at launch

  • Confirm the final graphics menu, including resolution scaling, upscaler names, ray-tracing controls and texture-memory warnings.
  • Check independent benchmarks for the exact GPUs and CPUs you own.
  • Read patch notes for shader-compilation, traversal-stutter and streaming fixes before assuming a hardware upgrade is necessary.
  • Re-test after graphics-driver updates and major game patches.

Until those data exist, the safest practical rule is simple: minimum-tier hardware should start at 1080p Low with expensive effects reduced, while recommended-tier hardware should start at 1080p High and spend extra headroom on resolution only after frame times are stable.
