For the best overall experience, start with Performance mode when responsiveness and consistent frame pacing matter. On PC, use the Medium or High preset, then reduce Shadow Quality, Foliage Detail, and Visual Effects before lowering Texture Quality. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Performance mode is the practical choice for a steadier 60 FPS target; choose Quality mode only when visual fidelity is more important. For accessibility, begin with a comfortable Field of View, reduced camera shake, the Stabilizing UI Dot, readable subtitles and captions, a larger HUD, and the color or high-contrast tools that address your specific visual needs.
Quick recommendations by platform
| Platform or priority | Starting settings | Why |
|---|---|---|
| PC, frame-rate consistency | Performance Mode; Medium or High preset; lower shadows, foliage, and visual effects first; keep textures higher if possible | These settings usually reduce the most expensive visual work while preserving surface detail. |
| PC, image quality | Quality-oriented preset; raise textures and View Distance after frame pacing is stable; use DLSS when your current patch and GPU expose it | Higher detail is worthwhile only after hitching is under control. |
| PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, responsiveness | Performance mode | EA says Patch 8 reworked this mode, disabled ray tracing in it, and targeted a solid 60 FPS experience. |
| PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, visual fidelity | Quality mode | It prioritizes image quality rather than the responsiveness of Performance mode. |
| Motion comfort | Comfortable wide FOV, reduced camera shake, Stabilizing UI Dot | These options reduce the visual effects most likely to aggravate motion discomfort. |
| Hearing access | Subtitles, larger subtitle scale, Sound Effect Captions, Subtitle Directional Indicator, Dialogue Closed Captions | Speech, off-screen cues, and non-speech sounds remain easier to follow. |
| Low vision or color separation | Larger HUD, Color Profile Settings, High Contrast Settings, adjusted background saturation | Distinct colors and larger interface elements make gameplay information easier to identify. |
These are starting points, not universal benchmarks. Official EA resources document the available controls and fixes, but they do not publish one FPS or latency result that applies to every PC, display, console scene, or patch.

How Performance and Quality modes differ
Performance mode
Performance mode is the right first choice when you notice delayed inputs, uneven camera movement, or distracting frame-time spikes. On consoles, EA’s Patch 8 notes say the mode was completely reworked, ray tracing was disabled, and the changes were intended to provide a solid 60 FPS experience. That is a target for the patched mode, not a promise that every scene will hold the same rate on every display. Cinematics on console remain locked to 30 FPS, so a movie sequence can look different from gameplay even when Performance mode is enabled. Read the official Patch 8 notes for the exact platform changes.
Quality mode
Quality mode favors visual fidelity. It is useful when you play slowly, sit close to a large display, or care more about richer lighting and detail than the quickest response. The trade-off is that camera movement and controls can feel less immediate than in Performance mode. Switch modes while standing in a visually busy area, then move the camera, traverse a large space, and enter combat before deciding. A mode that looks impressive in a quiet room may feel less comfortable during a fast fight.

Choosing between them
| Decision factor | Performance | Quality |
|---|---|---|

| Ray tracing on consoles | Disabled in the reworked Performance mode | Not stated as disabled in the Patch 8 notes |
| Cinematics | Console cinematics remain locked to 30 FPS, regardless of gameplay mode | |
Best PC graphics settings: a method that works across hardware
PC hardware varies too widely for one preset to be “best.” Use the following sequence to find a stable balance without sacrificing detail unnecessarily. The controls and platform guidance are listed in EA’s accessibility and settings resource, while the game’s patch notes document PC hitching, frame-rate fixes, ray-tracing optimization, and DLSS support.
1. Start from a known baseline
- Install the newest game update available for your platform. Patch notes have recorded hitching and frame-rate fixes, so troubleshooting an old build can give misleading results.
- Select Performance Mode if your menu offers it and frame pacing is your priority.
- Choose the Medium or High graphics preset. Medium is a safer starting point for an older or thermally constrained PC; High is appropriate when you have headroom.
- Apply the settings, then play the same demanding section for several minutes. Look for repeated hitching and uneven camera motion rather than chasing a single peak FPS number.
2. Lower the settings that most often disturb frame pacing
When the game stutters, change one group at a time in this order:
- Shadow Quality: lower it first. Shadow calculations can become expensive in areas with many lights and moving objects.
- Foliage Detail: reduce it next if outdoor areas produce spikes or traversal hitching.
- Visual Effects: lower this when combat, particles, or explosions cause the largest drops.
- Texture Quality: reduce it only after the three settings above. Textures primarily affect memory use and surface detail, so lowering them early can make the image blurrier without solving a compute-related frame-time problem.
This order is a practical starting point, not a benchmark. If your graphics card is short on video memory, Texture Quality may need to move earlier; verify the result on your own system.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute3. Leave View Distance at High until testing identifies it as a bottleneck
View Distance controls how far environmental detail is maintained. Keep it at High while you tune the other settings so distant geometry does not disappear unnecessarily. Lower it only if a repeatable test shows that it is a major bottleneck on your PC. A small gain is not worthwhile if it makes traversal look visibly less coherent.
4. Use DLSS when the current build and GPU expose it
DLSS availability depends on your GPU and the game build. If the option appears, test it after choosing a stable preset. It can trade some reconstructed image detail for additional performance, but the best mode depends on resolution, sharpness, and your tolerance for reconstruction artifacts. Do not assume that a DLSS option is present on every PC or every patch.
5. Recheck after every major change
Frame pacing can change between locations. Test an area with dense foliage, a combat encounter with many effects, and a traversal sequence. If only one type of scene stutters, keep your general preset and lower the setting most closely associated with that scene rather than dropping every option.

Reducing stutter and hitching on PC
Stutter is a frame-time problem, not simply a low average FPS number. A counter can show a high average while the camera still jerks whenever new assets stream in. Use this diagnostic order:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Confirm the game is patched. EA’s patch history includes PC hitching and frame-rate fixes, so note the installed version before changing multiple variables.
- Return to the Medium preset. This tells you whether the problem is caused mainly by graphics load.
- Lower shadows, foliage, and effects in sequence. Restart the same test route after each change so you know which option helped.
- Keep textures higher unless memory pressure is evident. If reducing textures changes nothing, restore them and preserve image detail.
- Test View Distance last. Lower it only when distant-detail rendering is the repeatable trigger.
- Evaluate DLSS if available. Compare camera motion and fine geometry, not just the reported frame rate.
There is no official universal PC benchmark covering every CPU, GPU, resolution, driver, and game scene. If hitching remains after patching and in-game tuning, document the locations and settings that trigger it instead of treating one number as proof that a particular configuration is universally optimal.
Console settings for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
When to select Performance mode
Select Performance mode for responsive controls, steadier camera movement, and combat where timing matters. Patch 8’s rework disables ray tracing in this mode and was designed around a solid 60 FPS target. Because the notes describe an intended target, not a guarantee for every scene or display, occasional variation is still possible.
When Quality mode makes sense
Use Quality mode if you value richer visual presentation more than the quickest input response. It can be a good fit for exploration, photo-style viewing, or a display where the difference in responsiveness is less important to you. Change modes based on your own comfort; neither mode is a universal winner.
Remember the 30 FPS cinematic lock
Console cinematics remain locked to 30 FPS. A transition from 60 FPS gameplay to a 30 FPS cinematic is expected behavior, not necessarily a malfunction in your selected mode.

Motion-comfort settings
If camera movement makes you nauseated, dizzy, or disoriented, change visual motion controls before changing difficulty. EA lists Field of View and the Stabilizing UI Dot among the game’s visual and accessibility options, and its accessibility design article describes camera-shake adjustment. See the accessibility design overview for the design rationale.
Rank #3
Field of View
Use the widest Field of View that remains comfortable. A wider view can reduce the sensation of being pulled through a narrow tunnel, but an extreme value can introduce edge distortion or make distant targets appear smaller. Increase it gradually, move the camera while traversing, and keep the setting where your eyes remain relaxed.
Camera shake
Reduce camera shake when impacts, sprinting, or environmental events make the image move more than you want. Lowering shake preserves the underlying action while removing some involuntary motion. If you still feel discomfort, combine a lower shake level with a more comfortable FOV rather than relying on one control alone.
Stabilizing UI Dot
Enable the Stabilizing UI Dot if camera motion causes discomfort. A fixed reference point can help your visual system track movement. Try it during normal traversal and combat; if the dot becomes distracting, adjust the other motion controls first.

Subtitles are the foundation, but the additional caption controls matter when dialogue is quiet, off-screen, or mixed with environmental sound. EA’s settings resource documents these options and the available color controls.
Recommended caption setup
- Turn on Subtitles.
- Increase Subtitles Scale until text can be read from your normal seating distance without leaning forward.
- Enable Sound Effect Captions to identify important non-speech sounds.
- Enable the Subtitle Directional Indicator when knowing where a speaker or sound originates helps you follow the scene.
- Use Dialogue Closed Captions when background dialogue or non-speech cues are easy to miss.
Make captions readable rather than merely visible
EA also provides controls for subtitle text color, subtitle background audio, and subtitle background. Choose a text and background combination that remains legible over bright environments and effects. If a translucent background disappears against scenery, increase its contrast rather than enlarging text indefinitely.

HUD Scale
Increase HUD Scale when health, Force, objectives, or interaction prompts are too small at your viewing distance. Larger elements can reduce the need to search the corners of the screen, though an excessively large HUD can cover exploration details. Increase it in small steps and keep the smallest size that is consistently readable.

Color Profile Settings
Use Color Profile Settings to adjust the game’s color presentation for your vision. Check the result in both a bright outdoor area and a dark interior; a profile that separates icons in one scene may reduce contrast in another.

Patch 8 added High Contrast Settings. They let you assign distinct colors to categories including the player, allies, hazards, Force, interactables, navigation, and BD-1 tools. EA’s accessibility resource says the system offers up to 18 selectable colors for relevant HUD and gameplay categories. Assign colors that are clearly different in hue and brightness, then verify them against the game’s busiest backgrounds.
Background saturation
Adjust background saturation when scenery competes with characters, prompts, or objectives. Lowering background intensity can make foreground information easier to distinguish without changing the color assigned to an important category.
Slow motion, difficulty, and combat assistance
Timing assistance can make difficult encounters manageable without forcing you to abandon the visual or exploration settings you prefer. Patch 8 added 30%, 50%, and 75% slow-motion presets, along with a custom Slow Motion value. Select the smallest reduction that gives you enough time to read an attack, aim, or complete a traversal sequence.
Choosing a slow-motion value
| Option | Best use | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 30% | Small timing extension for parries, aiming, or quick reactions | Preserves more of the original pace |
| 50% | General-purpose assistance when attacks arrive too quickly | Combat and traversal feel noticeably slower |
| 75% | Maximum preset assistance for severe timing barriers | Greatly changes the game’s pacing |
| Custom | Fine-tuning between or around the presets | Requires personal testing to find a comfortable value |
Difficulty settings and gameplay assists can be combined with slow motion. If combat timing is the barrier, use an assist rather than lowering every graphics option. EA’s PC gameplay resource also documents enemy-visibility choices, fall-damage behavior, and navigation guidance in the holomap and binoculars: PC gameplay accessibility options.
Navigation aids and exploration clarity
Navigation difficulty is separate from graphics performance. Use the holomap and binoculars guidance when route finding, objective markers, or environmental scanning is the obstacle. Enemy-visibility choices can reduce the need to identify threats visually, while fall-damage behavior can remove a punishment that makes exploration stressful. These assists let you keep a demanding combat difficulty while reducing a specific navigation or movement barrier.
A practical setup checklist
- Update the game before evaluating performance.
- Choose Performance mode when responsiveness is your priority.
- On PC, begin with Medium or High and test a repeatable route.
- Lower Shadow Quality, Foliage Detail, and Visual Effects before Texture Quality when frame pacing is unstable.
- Keep View Distance at High until testing proves it is a bottleneck.
- Use DLSS only when the current patch and GPU provide the option, then inspect image quality as well as performance.
- On consoles, remember that cinematics are locked to 30 FPS.
- For motion comfort, adjust FOV, camera shake, and the Stabilizing UI Dot.
- For hearing access, enable subtitles, increase their scale, and add sound-effect and directional captions as needed.
- For visual access, enlarge the HUD, configure a color profile, and use High Contrast Settings for distinct gameplay categories.
- Use 30%, 50%, 75%, or a custom slow-motion value when timing is the barrier.
- Use difficulty, enemy-visibility, fall-damage, holomap, and binoculars assists independently; you do not need to change every setting at once.
What the official information does—and does not—establish
EA’s published material confirms the available graphics and accessibility controls, the Patch 8 console Performance-mode changes, the slow-motion presets, and the high-contrast color system. It does not publish a universal FPS, frame-time, or input-latency benchmark that covers all PC hardware, resolutions, displays, and console scenes. Treat the recommendations above as a method for reaching a comfortable result on your system, not as a guaranteed score or identical visual output everywhere.
“At Electronic Arts, we strive to reduce and eliminate unnecessary accessibility barriers so that everyone can enjoy our games.” — Morgan Baker, EA Program Lead for Accessibility, in the accessibility design article.
