The best Sunburst prompt for a Tripo 3D model is not the most cinematic one. It is a short, structure-first description that produces one fully visible subject, a clean background, a readable silhouette, and clearly separated materials. In Tripo, select the chat_image_2.5_sunburst model, choose a quality tier, generate at a fixed size, inspect the result, and make one focused cleanup pass before sending the PNG to image-to-3D conversion.
This guide gives you a reusable prompt formula, ready-to-copy templates, settings guidance, a controlled comparison method, and fixes for the image defects that most often produce weak 3D meshes.
What chat_image_2.5_sunburst is in Tripo
Tripo identifies chat_image_2.5_sunburst as its GPT Image 2.5 fidelity tier. It is the Sunburst model identifier to use when generating a reference image for downstream 3D reconstruction. The image is not the 3D model itself: it is the visual input from which Tripo estimates shape, depth, surfaces, and materials.
That distinction determines how you should write prompts. A beautiful illustration can still be a poor reconstruction reference if it hides the back of an object, merges several materials into one color, crops a foot or wheel, or uses dramatic perspective that makes proportions ambiguous. A useful Sunburst image sacrifices some cinematic drama for geometry that can be read from a single view.

Tripo recommends putting the most important elements first and keeping an English prompt to no more than 600 words. You can append exclusions after --no. Use that space to protect the silhouette and prevent common image-generation errors rather than adding long narrative backstory.
The prompt formula that works for 3D reconstruction
Use this order:
- Subject and category: name the object, character, creature, or machine immediately.
- Silhouette and proportions: describe overall height-to-width relationships, stance, major masses, and recognizable contours.
- View and camera: specify a front three-quarter product view or an orthographic-like view with front and side surfaces readable.
- Construction details: state the number of major components, seams, joints, openings, thicknesses, rims, handles, and contact points.
- Materials and color blocks: separate skin, cloth, metal, rubber, glass, wood, or painted panels by name and color.
- Lighting: request soft, even studio light that reveals form without burying edges in shadow.
- Background: ask for a plain, uncluttered background with enough contrast to separate the subject.
- 3D-readability constraints: require a centered, complete subject with minimal overlap and no cropped parts.
A practical pattern is:
[subject and category], [primary silhouette and proportions], [view and camera], [construction details], [materials and color blocks], [lighting], [background], [3D-readability constraints] --no text, watermark, logo, extra objects, cropped parts, heavy occlusion, extreme perspectivePut geometry before decoration. “A compact two-door utility rover with a wide wheelbase” gives the model a structural anchor; “an inspiring explorer vehicle at sunset” does not. Add atmosphere only after the shape, parts, and view are unambiguous.
How to describe a subject so Tripo can reconstruct it
Start with one subject
Use singular language: “a single,” “one,” or “the complete object.” Tell Sunburst to center the subject and show the entire object. Multiple props, a character holding a weapon, or a vehicle beside a second vehicle create overlapping contours that an image-to-3D system may interpret as one fused shape.

State how many major components exist and where they sit. For a tool, identify the handle, head, guard, and fasteners. For a robot, identify the torso, two arms, two legs, head, and visible joint housings. For a vehicle, identify the body shell, four wheels, wheel arches, windows, bumpers, and doors. Relationships such as “the cylindrical handle joins the lower center of the oval head” are more useful than a list of adjectives.
Make thickness, openings, and contact points explicit
Thin parts disappear when their thickness is not stated. Describe a “thick rim around the opening,” “solid 6 mm-looking plate,” “recessed vent with a visible border,” or “flat feet contacting the ground.” If an opening must remain open, request visible inner walls or a rim; otherwise the generator may paint a dark circle on a flat surface.

Choose a view that exposes useful surfaces
A front three-quarter product view usually gives the best compromise between silhouette and depth: the front and one side are visible, while the object remains easy to center. For symmetrical assets, ask for “orthographic-like front and side readability.” Avoid “extreme wide-angle,” “low-angle action shot,” or “foreshortened perspective” when dimensional accuracy matters.

Simplify the background to a plain neutral studio backdrop, improve silhouette separation, reveal partially hidden edges, keep materials and color blocks distinct, remove text and logos, maintain a centered front three-quarter view suitable for image-to-3D conversion --no extra objects, redesign, crop, heavy shadow, watermarkUse this as a focused edit after inspecting a first generation. Ask it to fix the largest reconstruction problem, not to redesign the object and alter its proportions at the same time.

Settings in Tripo’s GPT Image 2.5 paths
Tripo documents five Sunburst quality values: low, medium, high, xhigh, and max. The exact credit charge and processing time depend on the implementation and can change, but the trade-off is consistent: higher tiers consume more credits and take longer.

Do not assume that max automatically makes a better 3D reference. A high-quality image with an occluded joint is still less useful than a simpler image in which the joint and silhouette are clear. Iterate wording and composition first, then raise quality for the selected candidate.
The newer Tripo implementation supports transparent output when you use PNG. Transparency can help isolate a subject, but it does not replace a readable silhouette or visible construction. If you need transparency, keep the subject fully inside the frame and request PNG; do not rely on a transparent background to reveal a hidden side.
A repeatable Sunburst-to-Tripo workflow
- Write the structural prompt. Put the object noun, silhouette, view, major parts, materials, lighting, and background before stylistic language. Keep the English prompt at or below 600 words.
- Choose fixed generation settings. Select
chat_image_2.5_sunburst, set one image dimension, and choose a quality tier. Record those values so later comparisons are fair. - Inspect the reference at full size. Check the outer contour, every joint, openings, repeated parts, material boundaries, text, logos, shadows, and all four edges of the frame.
- Make one focused edit. If the wheels merged into the body, fix wheel separation; if the feet were cropped, fix framing. Avoid changing camera, materials, pose, and proportions in one pass because you will not know which change helped.
- Export the clean image. Use PNG when you require the transparent-background option. Keep a copy of the exact prompt and settings with the image.
- Submit it to Tripo image-to-model. Tripo’s guidance calls for a clearly visible subject, clean background, and minimal occlusion. A clean reference gives the reconstruction system less ambiguity to resolve.
- Record the production version. Pin the Tripo model or version used in a production workflow. Model updates can change outputs, so a later regeneration may not match an earlier mesh even with the same wording.
How to compare prompt variants fairly
Change one meaningful variable at a time. Keep the prompt length, reference images, dimensions, selected quality, and camera description unchanged when comparing variants. OpenAI recommends this controlled approach for fair Sunburst comparisons; it prevents a quality-tier change from being mistaken for a wording improvement.

For downstream 3D work, prefer the less cinematic image when it offers clearer geometry. A neutral studio reference with an ordinary shadow is often more valuable than a dramatic scene that hides the contact points.

Common failures and targeted fixes
The object is cropped
Add “full object visible,” “inside the frame with margin on every side,” and “from head to feet” or the equivalent for the asset. Remove close-up language and check that the camera description does not imply an oversized subject.
Parts merge into one mass
State the number of parts and increase spacing: “arms slightly away from torso,” “four wheels separated from the body by visible wheel arches,” or “handle detached from the side by a clear gap.” Add “minimal overlap between major components” to the main prompt and exclude “extra parts” after --no.
Openings look painted on
Describe thickness and inner surfaces: “deep circular opening with a visible rim and inner wall.” Exclude “transparent holes without visible rims.” A black disk is not enough evidence of a cavity for reconstruction.
Materials become indistinguishable
Use separate color blocks and finish terms: “matte black rubber tires, brushed silver metal hub, glossy red painted shell.” Keep lighting soft and even so highlights do not erase the boundaries.

Text or logos appear
Include “no text, labels, logo, watermark” in the exclusion list. Remove brand-like wording from the descriptive portion of the prompt and inspect the image before conversion.

Perspective is too dramatic
Replace action language with “front three-quarter product view” or “orthographic-like.” Exclude “extreme perspective,” “wide-angle,” and “foreshortened.” The aim is not a marketing shot; it is a view that preserves measurable relationships.
Shadows hide the contact points
Request soft neutral studio lighting and no cast shadow crossing the object. If the subject still blends into the background, change the background tone slightly rather than adding a strong directional light that creates new occlusion.
The result changes too much between runs
Keep the prompt, dimensions, quality, and camera wording fixed. Describe counts and relationships explicitly, then compare several generations using the same evaluation axes. Save the best image and the exact settings instead of relying on memory.

- Only one subject is present and the complete silhouette fits inside the frame.
- The view exposes front and side surfaces without extreme perspective.
- Joints, openings, rims, thicknesses, and contact points are named.
- Major materials and color blocks are visibly separated.
- The background is plain, clean, and high-contrast enough for the silhouette.
- The exclusion list covers text, watermark, logo, extra objects, cropped parts, duplicate components, and heavy occlusion.
- Generation size and quality are recorded for repeatability.
- The image has been inspected and, if needed, corrected with one focused edit.
- PNG is used when transparent output is required.
- The Tripo model or production version is recorded before creating dependent assets.
What the documented limits do—and do not—tell you
The 600-word prompt recommendation and the five quality values are product parameters, not independent performance benchmarks. No published benchmark figure establishes that one tier produces a specific mesh accuracy or that a particular prompt length guarantees a successful reconstruction. Treat quality as a cost-and-latency choice, and judge prompts by the visibility and consistency of the resulting reference.
A strong Sunburst prompt therefore has a practical definition: it makes the subject easy to segment, gives Tripo enough evidence to infer depth, and avoids decorative information that competes with the geometry. Apply that standard before increasing quality or adding more adjectives.
