For a Google Trends data API you can evaluate now, start by comparing DataForSEO and SerpApi; Google’s own Trends API is a limited alpha that requires an application, not an open-signup replacement. The right choice depends on access, query type, geography, freshness, and how the provider defines its interest metrics. No head-to-head accuracy or latency test is established here, and the providers’ outputs should not be assumed equivalent.
What “Google Trends scraping API” means
Google Trends reports relative interest, not absolute search counts. Its familiar 0–100 chart is a normalized measure, so a value of 100 is a peak within the selected comparison and context—not 100 searches. APIs can make collection and scheduled analysis easier, but their supported charts, geographic coverage, normalization, and access models differ.
The options below are not all the same kind of service. Google describes its own API as an alpha for limited early access. DataForSEO and SerpApi document commercial endpoints that retrieve Google Trends-related results. DataForSEO describes values relative to the highest rate for the chosen period or region, while Google describes its alpha data as consistently scaled. Do not join or compare provider series as if they share a scale without validating that assumption for your use case. Google Trends API Alpha; DataForSEO overview.
Which API should you choose?
| Option | Best fit | Key constraints and documented capabilities |
|---|---|---|
| Google Trends API alpha | Teams that can apply for early access and want Google’s stated consistent scaling and longer-running monitoring model. | Limited alpha access by application. Google describes a rolling five-year window, daily through yearly aggregation, country and subregion comparisons, and merging requests. |
| DataForSEO Google Trends API | Developers seeking a commercial endpoint with queued or live retrieval and multiple Google properties. | Up to five keywords per request; Search, News, Images, Shopping, and YouTube are listed. Standard retrieval is queued; Live returns in one request. |
| SerpApi Google Trends API | Developers who need chart types and parameters documented around Google Trends search results. | Up to five queries for time series and compared regional breakdown; other result types accept one query. Parameters include geography, language, date, timezone, category, and property. |
This is a documentation-based selection guide, not a measured ranking. Coverage, latency, uptime, response accuracy, and price-performance have not been independently tested here. For a commercial integration, compare the endpoint and chart type you actually need, then validate responses on representative queries.

Google Trends API alpha: the official option
Google says it is accepting applications for a limited alpha and prioritizes developers with a near-term use case who can provide feedback. Treat access as uncertain until your application is accepted; the page does not describe general availability.
Google’s stated alpha capabilities address two common workflow problems: comparisons across more terms and maintaining a consistent series over time. The API is described as covering a rolling latest five years, with daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly aggregation; it supports countries and subregions, consistently scaled data, and merging multiple requests. Google contrasts the Trends UI’s eight-term comparisons with the API’s easier comparison of dozens. Its scale is not the UI’s 0–100 scale, and Google says monitoring can request only a latest period rather than repeatedly fetching the full series. These are alpha descriptions, not a guarantee of access or a claim that every team’s required data is available. Google’s alpha documentation.
DataForSEO: queued or live retrieval
DataForSEO says its Google Trends API uses Google’s Explore feature and returns relative popularity over time and by location, plus related topics and related queries. Its overview lists Google Search, News, Images, Shopping, and YouTube. A request supports up to five keywords, so batch terms where the endpoint’s comparison behavior matches your analysis.
Choose a retrieval mode
- Standard: a POST/GET task workflow. DataForSEO’s pricing page states $0.0027 per task and turnaround of up to 45 minutes.
- Live: a single-request retrieval mode. The pricing page states $0.011 per task and an average turnaround of up to 32 seconds.
Those are vendor-stated prices and timings accessed in 2026, not guarantees of current rates or an individual request’s completion time. The listed task supports up to five keywords, meaning the displayed task price is not a per-keyword price and assumes a full five-keyword request for that normalization. Check the current DataForSEO Google Trends pricing and the exact endpoint documentation before budgeting.
The overview states a general limit of up to 2,000 API calls per minute; endpoint-specific limits and actual throughput depend on mode and should be verified for the integration. Standard’s asynchronous pattern can suit work that does not need an immediate response. Live is positioned for synchronous retrieval, but costs more per task according to the displayed figures. DataForSEO also documents callback options; verify their exact request fields and response schema in the endpoint docs, including Explore task_post.
SerpApi: chart-specific query limits
SerpApi describes its Google Trends endpoint as scraping results from Google Trends search pages. Its documented result types include time series, compared breakdown by region, interest by region, related topics, and related queries. The five-query maximum applies to time series and compared regional breakdown; other result types take one query per request. Avoid assuming that batching supported for one chart type also applies to another.
Rank #3
Parameters documented by SerpApi include the query, geography (geo), language (hl), date range, time zone, category, and Google property. Its date options range from shorter recent windows through all data from 2004 to the present, as documented. Property options include Web Search as well as image, news, shopping, and YouTube. Confirm syntax and available values for the specific result type in the SerpApi Google Trends API documentation. Service availability and performance statements on a vendor page remain vendor claims, not independent verification.
How to select and validate a provider
- Confirm access first. If you need a supported endpoint immediately, do not design around Google alpha access before approval. If you can apply, assess whether the stated alpha capabilities fit your data model.
- Write down the exact output. Specify chart type, terms per comparison, geography or subregion, date window, aggregation interval, language, and property. Check each provider’s limits against that specification.
- Decide what freshness means. A monitoring job, dashboard refresh, and historical backfill have different latency needs. Compare DataForSEO Standard and Live against your operational deadline rather than treating one as universally better.
- Budget by tasks, not search terms alone. Count calls/tasks for each chart type, geography, date variant, retries, and retrieval mode. A five-keyword limit does not mean five separate tasks are always required, nor that every result type permits batching.
- Run a small validation set. Use representative queries, regions, and date ranges. Check missing or sparse series, response fields, errors, and whether the provider’s scale is suitable for your analysis. Do not interpret apparent differences between APIs as data changes until normalization and coverage are accounted for.
- Review source and usage terms. Scraping-based services can be affected by changes or access controls on the underlying source. Read current vendor terms and relevant source rules; do not assume stability or compliance from an endpoint’s existence.
Google Trends API pricing and operating costs
Google’s alpha page describes an application-based access model; it does not establish a generally available commercial price. DataForSEO publishes task pricing, but the figures above are time-sensitive and should be rechecked before implementation. The reviewed SerpApi page documents endpoint parameters and examples; a comparable price figure is not stated here, so consult its current vendor pricing for your expected request volume.
For a realistic estimate, model a month of jobs: number of keywords, chart types, regions, update cadence, backfill windows, retries, and whether you need queued or live responses. Include development and monitoring effort, not just the API line item. A per-task rate can become misleading if each region/date/chart combination creates additional work.

Implementation and reliability checks
Use the vendor’s exact endpoint, authentication method, payload, and response schema for the chosen chart. DataForSEO’s overview links endpoint-specific examples in several languages, while SerpApi’s documentation lists its API parameters and examples. Keep credentials out of source control, set request timeouts, log provider request identifiers and error bodies safely, and separate retryable transport errors from invalid parameters or unsupported chart/query combinations.
- Store the provider name, retrieval timestamp, query, geography, date range, property, and aggregation alongside each result.
- Record the returned metric and its documented scale; do not label normalized interest as search volume.
- For scheduled monitoring, request only the intervals needed when the chosen API supports it, and define how you handle changed historical values or rolling windows.
- Use bounded retries with backoff for transient failures; avoid retry loops that multiply task charges or breach request limits.
- Test empty results and partial data explicitly. A successful HTTP response does not necessarily mean every requested term or region produced a usable series.
Where Apify fits
An Apify Google Trends scraper Actor is one possible discovery path for a scraper-based workflow, and a secondary guide says results can be retrieved or exported through the Apify API. That is not enough to verify a specific Actor’s maintainer, current maintenance, price, or output behavior. Inspect the current Actor page and its terms before adopting it; it is not ranked alongside the directly documented provider endpoints here. Secondary Apify scraper guide.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a Google Trends data API, so it does not replace the providers above for retrieving Trends series. It can be an alternative to try first when your adjacent task is capturing a Trends page or other webpage as an image or PDF. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; its API documentation covers the request options.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with verdict and billing headers in each response. An MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
