Play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order first if you want the closest follow-up to Jedi: Survivor: it returns you to Cal Kestis, the same lightsaber-and-Force foundation, and the earlier chapter of his story. Choose Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for harder parry-focused swordplay, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for open-world exploration and sword fighting, or God of War Ragnarök for cinematic storytelling. Star Wars Outlaws keeps the galaxy but changes the hero and combat, while Star Wars: The Old Republic is the choice for a much larger online Star Wars saga.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a third-person, galaxy-spanning action-adventure from Respawn Entertainment made with Lucasfilm Games. It continues Cal’s story five years after Fallen Order, adding more Force abilities, traversal options, an expanded skill tree, and lightsaber stances such as Dual Wield, Cross-Guard and Blaster. The recommendations below match one or more of those qualities without pretending that any game is an identical replacement.

How to choose your next game

Start with the part of Survivor you most want to preserve. The games below divide into distinct needs rather than one universal ranking:

  • More Cal Kestis and the closest structure: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
  • Attack-reading and demanding deflections: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
  • A larger world to explore with sword combat: Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.
  • Cinematic character drama and set pieces: God of War Ragnarök.
  • Another Star Wars setting with a different hero: Star Wars Outlaws.
  • A long-running, story-driven online saga: Star Wars: The Old Republic.

This is a recommendation by feel, not a claim that the games share identical mechanics, performance, difficulty options or platform availability. Those details vary by edition and region and should be checked for the version you intend to play.

1. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order — the closest match

Fallen Order is the logical next game if you finished Survivor without playing the earlier release. It is the first Cal Kestis adventure, and its story establishes the character, relationships and conflict that Survivor continues five years later. Playing it afterward will not recreate the surprise of discovering Cal’s origins in order, but it does provide the missing context and lets you see how the combat and exploration formula developed.

Why it fits

The core actions are the same kind of actions that make Survivor recognizable: third-person movement through hostile environments, lightsaber striking, timed parries, dodges and Force powers. You are still learning enemy patterns and using traversal abilities to reach places that were previously inaccessible. That makes it the strongest choice for someone asking, “What should I play after Jedi: Survivor?” rather than merely seeking any science-fiction action game.

What feels different

Fallen Order is a smaller and earlier design. Its progression, area layout and available lightsaber options are not as broad as Survivor‘s expanded skill tree and additional stances. Treat the change as a return to the foundation, not as a content-equivalent sequel. The first hours can also feel more restrained because the game is introducing Cal’s abilities instead of assuming you already understand them.

Best way to approach it after Survivor

  1. Play the main story without rushing through optional paths; the ability-gated structure is part of how Cal’s journey is taught.
  2. Use the lower-pressure encounters to practice the timing of strikes, blocks, parries and dodges without relying only on the more advanced tools you learned in Survivor.
  3. After finishing, consider New Journey+ and its challenge modes if you want to carry your familiarity into a replay. These modes are useful for mastery, not required for understanding the story.

Choose it when: continuity, lightsabers and Cal’s character matter more than having the newest systems. It is the only recommendation here that directly fills in the preceding chapter of the same protagonist’s story.

2. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — for demanding sword parries

Choose Sekiro when your favorite moments in Survivor were the fights that required you to read an opponent, wait for the right beat and deflect instead of simply trading damage. The connection is the priority given to precise defense and attack timing, not the setting or overall exploration structure.

Why the combat connection works

Survivor asks you to recognize attack tells and use a well-timed parry to create an opening. Sekiro builds almost its entire melee identity around that idea. Progress comes from learning an opponent’s rhythm, maintaining pressure and responding correctly to each swing. A player who enjoyed turning a difficult lightsaber duel into a practiced sequence will find a much more concentrated version of that satisfaction here.

Important expectation setting

This is not a Star Wars game and does not reproduce Cal’s Force abilities, lightsaber stances or ability-gated galaxy-spanning journey. Its swordplay is more demanding and less forgiving of a strategy based on blocking or waiting indefinitely. Exploration exists, but the match to Survivor is primarily the combat discipline rather than a shared map design.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Who should select it

  • Players who want every major duel to test attack recognition and deflection timing.
  • Players comfortable treating repeated defeats as information about an enemy’s patterns.
  • Players who prefer a focused sword-combat identity over a broad selection of Force powers.

If you want a gentler continuation of Survivor‘s combat, start with Fallen Order instead. Sekiro is the deliberate step up for readers specifically seeking demanding parries.

3. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut — for open-world exploration and swordplay

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the best fit when the appeal of Survivor was traveling through a sizeable world, finding optional routes and switching between different approaches to sword combat. The shared pleasure is the combination of movement, discovery and a blade-focused protagonist; the setting, tone and combat systems are otherwise distinct.

What carries over

Like Survivor, it makes the landscape part of the adventure rather than a corridor between cutscenes. You can pursue story objectives while being pulled toward points of interest and side activities. Sword encounters reward attention to spacing, attack timing and the behavior of different opponents, so a player who enjoys the physical rhythm of a duel has a clear reason to try it.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

What does not carry over

There are no Cal Kestis, Force powers or lightsaber stances. The historical setting creates a different tone and a different reason to explore, and the open-world scale changes how objectives are presented. Select this game for breadth and atmosphere, not as a mechanical sequel.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When it is the right recommendation

Pick it if you want to spend dozens of hours moving through a connected landscape and deciding which discoveries to follow next. It is also a strong alternative when you want swordplay that can vary by opponent and situation rather than a single repeated duel pattern. If your priority is the specific Star Wars atmosphere, Outlaws preserves that setting more directly.

4. God of War Ragnarök — for cinematic, story-led action

God of War Ragnarök belongs on this list for readers who remember Survivor most for its character relationships, dramatic reveals and large-scale combat scenes. It is a story-led action adventure with a strong cinematic presentation, but it follows a different cast in a mythological world and does not attempt to recreate lightsaber combat.

Why story-focused players connect with it

Both games place the playable action inside an ongoing personal journey. Exploration, combat and set pieces serve the development of the central characters rather than existing as disconnected challenges. If you valued the way Cal’s relationships and responsibilities give meaning to each planet and confrontation, this is the recommendation that most directly prioritizes narrative momentum.

Combat and exploration differences

The combat is built around its own weapons, abilities and encounter design, so a Survivor player should expect a new learning curve rather than a familiar stance system. Its exploration supports the story and optional discoveries, but it is not a continuation of Cal’s ability-gated routes. The match is cinematic pacing and character-led action, not the Star Wars ruleset.

Choose it when

Choose Ragnarök when you would accept a completely different universe in exchange for a polished narrative arc, memorable companions and set-piece battles. It is less suitable if your first question is specifically “What has lightsaber or Force combat?”

5. Star Wars Outlaws — for a different Star Wars hero

Star Wars Outlaws keeps the galaxy, factions and atmosphere that made Survivor appealing while changing the player fantasy. You play a different kind of protagonist, and the action emphasizes shooting, stealth and outlaw-style problem solving rather than lightsaber duels and Force abilities.

Why the setting is the main draw

If you are not ready to leave Star Wars after Cal’s story, this is the straightforward setting-first choice. It lets you visit another corner of the galaxy and experience a story that is separate from Cal’s journey. The continuity is therefore thematic and geographic, not narrative.

Set expectations before choosing it

Do not buy it expecting a substitute for Survivor‘s parry encounters. The combat approach is different, and the protagonist’s skills create different decisions during missions. Exploration also serves a different kind of adventure, built around outlaw movement and opportunities rather than Cal’s Force-enabled traversal.

6. Star Wars: The Old Republic — for a much larger online saga

Star Wars: The Old Republic is the outlier in this list. Lucasfilm describes it as the only massively multiplayer online Star Wars game and notes that it has a free-to-play option. It offers a story-driven saga across a much larger online setting, so the reason to choose it is scale, questing and community rather than a direct recreation of Survivor‘s third-person action.

What it offers that Survivor does not

You can spend far more time in Star Wars by following class-based stories, exploring worlds and participating in an ongoing online environment. The format supports a long commitment and a broader range of activities than a self-contained Cal Kestis campaign. That makes it useful when finishing Survivor leaves you wanting a persistent Star Wars universe rather than another tightly authored action-adventure.

What you give up

Its online role-playing structure changes the pace and feel of combat. Do not expect the same parry timing, traversal animation or cinematic third-person encounter design. The characters, era and plotlines are separate from Cal’s story, and the free-to-play option does not turn it into a short replacement you can finish in the same way.

Who should pick it

Select it if you want to join a large online community, sample a story-driven saga at your own pace and accept the commitment of a massively multiplayer game. If you want a self-contained solo adventure with a lightsaber, Fallen Order is the better fit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical play order

There is no required sequence because only Fallen Order shares Cal’s continuity. Use this order when you want to sample each kind of follow-up without repeating the same experience:

  1. Fallen Order: fill in the earlier Cal story and revisit the core lightsaber-and-Force foundation.
  2. Sekiro: sharpen parry and attack-reading skills through a more demanding sword-combat design.
  3. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut: move to a broader world when exploration and swordplay are your priority.
  4. God of War Ragnarök: switch to cinematic character drama and set-piece action.
  5. Star Wars Outlaws: return to the galaxy with a different hero and a shooting-and-stealth focus.
  6. The Old Republic: choose the online saga only when you are ready for a larger, ongoing commitment.

Quick decision guide

  • “I want Cal’s next or previous chapter.” Play Fallen Order; it is the only direct story connection.
  • “I want harder lightsaber-like timing.” Play Sekiro for its deflection-centered swordplay, while remembering that it has no Star Wars setting.
  • “I want to roam and fight with a sword.” Play Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.
  • “I want relationships and cinematic battles.” Play God of War Ragnarök.
  • “I want Star Wars, but not another Jedi.” Play Star Wars Outlaws.
  • “I want a huge online Star Wars commitment.” Try Star Wars: The Old Republic and its free-to-play option.

What to remember about Survivor’s place in the list

Jedi: Survivor launched on April 28, 2023, according to PlayStation’s 2023 listing. Its official premise is a continuation of Cal Kestis’s story five years after Fallen Order, and its expanded traversal, skill tree and lightsaber stances are the features that make direct comparisons tempting. None of the alternatives reproduces all of those elements at once. The useful choice is therefore the one that preserves your favorite part: continuity, parries, exploration, cinematic storytelling, the Star Wars setting or a larger online saga.
